Izzabella rocked it, and we had a wonderful time hanging out with the bella boys Friday, of course. However, the festival was almost a complete failure.
The only thing that made it all worth it was Izzabella, Melvin Seals and JGB, and a few other bands that still played! The festival didn't have the money to cover their butts, and they screwed over the bands, the fans, and all the people working for them. Most of the bands didn't even play because they weren't getting paid.
The bands that did play were heroes!! Melvin Seals told us that the office could deal with that on Monday, he was there to play music. For the bigger bands, they will sue and get their money. The mid to low level bands got some great exposure (400 people starving to see some of the music they paid for, plus a little hero worship.) Thanks to these bands, I don't feel ripped off and we had a great time anyway.
Izzbella, we so appreciate you playing for us! We love you! Tons of people really enjoyed your sets, and you've got a lot of new fans down here.

Mon, September 15, 2008 - 9:12 PMWay to go Bella!! Word was the schedule was all fucked up and off by a hour or two so it was hard to catch the bands that stuck around and played so the four tapers I knew who there missed the bella set on Saturday and the one that made it came late so he did not set up.

I am stoked the guys made a great showing but a little bummed there is no mention of Izabella on main page for bands sucking it up and playing even when things got rough.
Ranchita, CA. Yonder Mountain String Band, headliner at the Democratic National Convention, bailed on Ranchita Rocks after the festival incurred $34,605.00 (including the $17,500.00 performance deposit) in expenses related to Yonder’s performance. Manager Todd Zimmerman, after being told that the festival could not come up with the final payment stated, “We are not coming and do not care about your cause.”
Other headliners also took advantage of the festival promoters and did not play:
· Mountain costs were $17,500.00 which includes a performance deposit of $7,500.00 plus $1,700.00 in cash they were given at the festival after they demanded it to perform. When they accepted the cash, they literally ran away as Leslie West stated, “Fuck you we are leaving.” A theft report has been filed with the SD County Sheriff Department.
· DJ Bassnectar costs totaled $13,000.00, including a performance deposit of $5,500.00. Promoters pleaded with him to contribute to the cause by performing for only 45 minutes. He refused after asking, “How much money do you have?”
· Particle and Puja arrived with no bass player and demanded their fee. Their ‘non-performance’ costs totaled $4,480.00.
The promoters want to thank all the bands that did play – most of them for little or no money. “We appreciate their support and would recommend them to any festival promoters,” states Steven Rohrer, Producer. Headliners Melvin Seals & JGB Band, Gram Rabbit, Shark Attack and Interstate Blues performed on the main stage and donated all or part of their fee. Many bands, like Cubensis, the Nate Lapointe Band, MoJow & the Vibration Army, Delta Nove and Left Hand Monkey Wrench, played multiple sets to compensate for the unprofessional demeanor and complete lack of empathy for the cause by the headliners. While Nate LaPointe, whose multiple bands helped draw a majority of the crowd, was disappointed by not being paid, he continued to go above and beyond to give to the cause and to his fans. He even helped cheer up a disappointed crowd on Saturday night by playing with Jay Constable into the wee hours. MoJow & the Vibration Army also performed their hearts out and despite nonpayment, thanked the promoters on stage for putting on the festival. In true ‘Burning Man fashion’ Ruby the Fire Breathing Fire Truck stayed the entire weekend and performed. While the promoters have lost significant personal monies, loans from people who believed in the cause include IGE Records, Powers Engineering, Myrna Wosk and Dr. Cy Conrad.
The entire staff wants to apologize to all patrons who were disappointed and deeply regret not being able to provide the entertainment that was expected.

Re: Thank You for Playing Ranchita Anyway, and Sorry They SUCK!
Thu, September 18, 2008 - 2:53 PMThat's exactly what I just said to my sd crew, Jim!! What about Izabella???
They definitely made a lot of new fans, so hopefully in the end that pays off bigger than whatever the Ranchita paycheck was supposed to be. Guess we'll see next time the Porta-bella makes it down to SoCal!! :) -

Re: Thank You for Playing Ranchita Anyway, and Sorry They SUCK!
Thu, September 18, 2008 - 8:47 PMIzabella rocked two sets and if they stuck around would have been more than happy to perform another set for the people. It's unfortunate because it's not the peoples' fault and I would be highly upset if I would have paid for a festival like this.
We're not worried about the lack of mention of Izabella because we see that the people that were there remember that Izabella dropped the heat on Ranchita! -

Fri, September 19, 2008 - 3:33 PMWell they did move izabella to a main spot on the website, so thats good right? -

Re: Thank You for Playing Ranchita Anyway, and Sorry They SUCK!
Thu, October 2, 2008 - 6:41 PMAnyone else thinking that that entire write up for the Ranchita website is BS? Seems to be no mention of the fact that the festival failed because they couldn't cover their expenses like they promised. The bands didn't play because their contracts were broken (all except Mountain - they just suck). It completely sounds like they are just blaming the bands. Retarded. It was the most poorly run festival I've ever attended.
I tried to write the kindest of thank you notes, that buzz was the spelling bee. What's up with Izabella management gettin all over my ass. =) -

Re: Thank You for Playing Ranchita Anyway, and Sorry They SUCK!
Fri, October 3, 2008 - 10:55 AMTotally!! Their website is stinky bull!!! It is very difficult to believe that it was the bands who acted unprofessionally when we see these bands play shows and fests all over all the time! Who were these promoters anyway? To blame the bands show utter lack of professionalism! -

Re: Thank You for Playing Ranchita Anyway, and Sorry They SUCK!
Fri, October 3, 2008 - 1:05 PMI am confused though wasn't this a benefit festi, non-profit, so if they did not make enough money isn't kinda jankie that the bands did not play for the cause since they were there already -

Re: Thank You for Playing Ranchita Anyway, and Sorry They SUCK!
Mon, October 6, 2008 - 11:17 AMThe promoters are retarded for booking bands at their full price for a "benefit" instead of negotiating for a discount (like offering to pay them 1/6th of their asking price to cover the cost of gas, etc.) or if they had just ask the bands to donate their time for a free set from the beginning instead of assuming the bands would rather not get paid at all for a set and eat it on their travel expenses after they were on site!
