Aloha from the beutiful island of Kauai! Mike and I are here for another month and it's beautiful! So much surf! It's "small" which means waist to chest peeling lines. We've done zipl lines, climbing walls, 100' rapelles (sp?), and snorkling. Also many trips to farmers markets. There are so many fruits that I've never even heard of!
Well, just checking in. Hope all of you on the mainland are spaectacular and we'll see ya'll soon!

Given the volume of speculation and rumors that have bubbled up
recently, I have been asked to make a statement. Here goes.

For me, the last four years have been great. Ive spent quality time with
my family and have watched my daughter grow. I took great
pleasure and pride in writing and recording an album. Im living a
healthy lifestyle. I travel as little as possible and I sleep in my own
bed. It took a couple of years after the break up to begin talking to my
old band mates, but once the conversations began to flow it wasnt long
before the friendships were rekindled. And I can honestly say that Im
closer with all of them now then Ive ever been in our 20-year
relationship.

Recently the conversations have turned toward the possibility of
spending some time together. Currently many of us have plans and
projects already in the works, most notably Mike, who made a great album
and is about to hit the road in support of it. Given that I
might not even see some of the guys for the next six months, I would say
that the announcement of a reunion is premature. However, later
this year we hope to spend some time together and take a look at what
possible futures we might enjoy. In fact the only real decision that
has been made is that when we do get together, it will only be the four
of us, hopefully with no distractions. I am really looking
forward to that.

I want to say just a few more things. The prospect of Phish reuniting Is
something I consider very seriously, and I think about it a lot.
And lastly, as always, there is plenty of misinformation floating
around. Try not to focus too much on secondhand sources and random
gossip. If there is anything real to announce, it will come from the
four of us as a group.

My band MacAdams has two shows coming up and just wanted to put a little word out.

Tonight, 6/26 at The Big Top Lounge (next to continental club)
Free show starting at 9:30. We'll play two 45min sets.
The Greyhounds are at Continental as well.

Lastly, there will be a FULL evening of music Friday, July 4th at the Cafe.
We'll be headlining with two full sets of original progressive jam rock.

Opening the show starting up at 8pm is Mothertone followed by The Johnny Smith Experience w/ Joe Popcorn and fellow Houston rockers Wierdo.

$10 cover at the door. Come on out and join us!!

Hello!

McCoury Music needs your help more than ever before! We have a great new project coming out on July 8, called Moneyland, that is more impactful than anything McCoury Music has ever released before, and it's up to you to help spread the good word! We know you all love Del and the boys, but with this project, you'll really be making a difference.

We need as many street team members as possible to volunteer to pass out download cards (these allow folks to download the song Moneyland for free) at 4th of July celebrations and parades in your local area (this does not mean only handing cards out to your close friends and neighbors—it must be an actual public celebration). A signed copy of Moneyland will be sent to you with the cards in exchange for a detailed report of where and when cards were distributed (this will be specifically outlined in later correspondence).

In addition, for a few of you that really want to go the extra mile, we would like to rent an Uncle Sam costume for you and put you in the local parade, or have you walk around the grounds of the celebration in your area with these download cards. For those of you who are willing to go that extra step, we have something special in mind for you-- Official "Delhead" status. This will get you free admission into any and all Del McCoury Band shows for the rest of this year, plus an exclusive membership card, also signed and authorized by Del himself.

If you are interested in participating, please let us know as soon as possible at: unclesam@livinginmoneyland.com. Packages and information will have be mailed out to everyone interested by Monday so there's no time to waste.

PELOSI removes ban for war on Iran without Congressional approval from bill

A few weeks back I was watching C-Span1 or 2 late at night and had heard that Nancy Pelosi removed a section from a bill passed by Congress which would have barred the U.S. from going to war with Iran without a congressional vote, she did so at the behest of the leadership of Israel and AIPAC.I finaly got around to looking this up.

For our money, we’ll take Benjy Eisen’s concise posts about a wide variety of kickass bands over at Spinner. But Benjy took it to a new level this morning when he posted the inside story behind the Disco Biscuits’ pot bust on the way to the Manchester for their late-night set at the festie…

…the Biscuits had special encouragement to play their hearts out — it was a direct order from Tennessee’s Cumberland County police department, who stopped them en route, searched their tour bus, and wrote citations to certain members of the band and crew for carrying personal amounts of marijuana.

During the song ‘Nughuffer,’ bassist Marc Brownstein recounted the events with his typical humor and flair, claiming the officer hugged him and told the band to “play the best set of their life,” even after confiscating their pot and writing citations. Brownstein then asked the officer if he could have just a small amount of it back so he could twist one up for the final 90 minute stretch to the festival. When the cop obviously said no, Brownstein told him he was going to do a search of his tour bus twice as hard as the police because he was sure he could find something left, somewhere. We’re pretty sure he was right.

I saw the monthly deduction for tribe membership on my bank statement yesterday, and thought, I really am not getting much that for the money, so I decided to go in and cancel my payments for future months thinking that this month was just paid, and covered, but NO it does not work that way. It reverted back to the advertising as soon as I sent in the request, voiding the payment that was just deducted, so if you just paid your dues for the month, it is a good idea to wait until the end of the month to cancel, if you plan to do so.

any recs for auto a/c repair shop?

I have a pretty good idea it's the same part that went out last year and have an expensive estimate from the dealer on the parts and labor.
Any reliable suggestions for a/c work in town?
I can get the parts at the dealer and it would supposedly need 4-6 hours labor...

may 29th 6-8:30 the gourds. if yall havnt been there it is awesome!!! the kids and i went today, and it is the best thing i could have ever wanted my tax dollars to go to! build more parks. yeahhh. there is a bunch of other great stuff too, a blues festival, they have yoga and pilates for free in the park. i imagine you could look online, but i grabbed a calender from their info desk. hope everyone is having a great weekend.

Hey all! We are back from a very short trip to Arkansas...got to visit with my brother on Saturday. I'm thrilled to report he looks absolutely FANTASTIC!!! Walking slow with a cane, but damn it, WALKING!!! He's also standing taller than I ever can remember. He's always had what he called an "electrician's hump" and now that sucker is GONE. It was just amazing guys. Thanks again for all the powerful prayers and thought....they freaking worked. I'll be posting pics soon....I LOVE YOU GUYS!!!! :0)

Lee's Mother Levene passed away Sunday

Very unexpectedly, Levene Hankins, Matriarch extraordinaire, passed away from lung complications this last Sunday. Lee is back in the country from Costa Rica, and I know he would dearly love emotional support from his extended family.
Levene's viewing will be held Wednesday from 4-8 pm at Brookside Funeral Home, located at 13401 Eastex Fwy, Houston, TX 77039-2607
This is on Hwy 59, just inside the beltway on the west side. Below is a map link.

My dooooooosssssshhhhhhhhhh bag of a boss was fired on Tuesday and I am currently gunning for his job.
Not only would this position provide a significant increase in pay - but would also give me the freedom to help out all my friends who occasionaly require my services.
To those of you who are awaiting designs from me...I do apologize for the delay but I have been so freaking busy up here, and then with an 11 month old at home.......I hope you understand. If I do attain this new job I can make my designers up here do it and email you proofs a.s.a.p.
So I'm just asking for some of that hippie magic in making this happen...because I've got the dark side covered.
Trying to form that cosmic yin-yang which will rub the Director's tummy and make her feel at ease with my abilities to maintain this awe inspiring workload and lead these people like I know I can.

here's a brief description of the video.

Hemp for Victory is a black-and-white film produced in 1942 by the USDA outlining a plan to distribute 400,000 lbs. of cannabis seeds to American farmers with the goal of producing 350,000 acres of cannabis by 1943 -- all for the war effort. The USDA even went as far as to urge 4-H clubs to grow at least half an acre, but preferably 2 acres of cannabis. All American farmers were required to see the film, sign a paper saying that they had viewed the film, and read a booklet on the matter. Farmers who agreed were waived from serving in the military, and all their family members were also exempt. They received farm equipment at a discounted price, and sometimes for free. However, before and after the war -- the same plant was considered "demon weed" and the killer of the same kids that were pressed into service to grow it during the war. Furthermore, the USDA and Library of Congress denied the creation or existence of such a film until 2 copies were found and sent in to the Library of Congress. Talk about hypocrisy.

>>>A Central Texas man is free on bail today after being accused of causing the crash that killed the curator of Houston's Art Car Museum as he celebrated the conclusion of the popular Art Car Parade.

Dustin Allen Poe, 23, is charged with intoxication manslaughter, a felony that carries a possible sentence ranging from two to 20 years in prison and a $10,000 fine upon conviction. He is accused of being drunk when the car he was driving slammed into a parked car, which then killed Tom Jones early Sunday.

Poe, of the Central Texas town of Mexia, was released from the Harris County Jail this morning after posting $30,000 bail.

The fatal accident occurred about 2 a.m. Sunday as Jones sat on a curb with two friends in front of the Art Car Museum, reveling in the afterglow of the annual parade that was their pet public art exhibition.

Jones, 51, had parked his eye-catching ride, Swamp Mutha, inside the museum on Heights Boulevard, just north of Washington Avenue.

As the three friends shot the breeze, a speeding Pontiac crested the railroad tracks on Heights. It was going so fast when it hit a parked Toyota Camry 50 feet away that Jones' friend, Dion Laurent, had had time to think only one word.

"No."

The parked car launched into them, flinging Laurent against the fence and pinning Jones and his other friend.

"They were in agony," Laurent said later Sunday, shuddering.

Jones, a pillar of the Art Car community, died later that morning from internal injuries. The other two men survived.

Jones, an accomplished photographer, videographer and Art Car designer, had driven one of the museum's centerpieces in Saturday's parade: a 1982 Chevrolet Monte Carlo adorned with crabs, crawfish, alligator skulls and shellacked armadillos. Swamp Mutha symbolizes Houston's urban frontier, according to its museum plaque.

After entertaining crowds along Allen Parkway on Saturday afternoon, Jones, his friends, and some of the 300 other art car drivers staged their own personal parade, rigging their floats with lights and embarking on a nightime tour of the Heights and downtown. Bands followed on flatbed trailers, and the parade made stops so artists could mingle. It's a tradition called the Illuminated Cruise, and it's meant more for the artists than for spectators.

The cruise had gotten a later-than-usual start Saturday night. While some participants returned to the museum afterward, Jones and his friends were the last ones there.

Jones had just locked up the museum, and the three men were winding down from the day when the car jumped the curb. Witnesses said the driver appeared drunk and refused to take a Breathalyzer test before he was arrested early Sunday morning.

The bitter irony of Jones' death — hours after the silly, spunky celebration he had nurtured since it began two decades ago — made it all the more senseless for those who knew him.

"We just had a wonderful, great day," said Art Car Museum director Noah Edmundson, shaking his head. "There's no sense. I'm numb. I'm actually, physically numb."

Jones' friend Laurent visited the museum again on Sunday to try to make sense of it himself. He walked to the railroad tracks, then back to where the trio was sitting. He hadn't slept all night.

"I just don't see how it could have happened. It was so fast," Laurent said, staring at the stretch of sidewalk. "We were talking about what a great day and a great bunch of events this had been."

On Sunday afternoon, fellow artists rendered a memorial at the crash site.

Amy Lynch strung zebra-striped streamers from the museum fence. Nicole Strine, president of the Houston Art Car Klub, hung tiny disco balls.

"Tom is not a disco queen, but my art car is. That's why I'm hanging these," Strine said, nodding toward Shattered Vanity, a 1997 Honda Accord covered in cut mirrors. "We are encouraging artists to bring pieces of themselves to remember Tom."

Jones is survived by his college sweetheart and partner of 32 years, Becky Sargent.

Funeral details have not been announced. For his fellow artists, though, Jones' death cast a pall over the zany festival.

"It's a pretty tight community," said Erik Kolflat.

As Sunday afternoon wore on, Heights Boulevard offered a reprise of Saturday's parade, but with a markedly different mood, as dozens of artists arrived in Art Cars to pay their respects.

For the drivers of the Roachster, a car shaped like a giant cockroach, it was a morose metamorphosis from the day before, when they had wriggled their fingers like antennae for cheering crowds.

On Sunday, the parade became a procession.<<<

Broken Justice System--new thread

So as not to disrespect the posts about the tragic death of Tom Jones, here is a new thread about moral relativism and the Justice? System.
The person who killed Tom Jones by driving drunk and irresponsibly, was freed after posting a $30,000 bond, AFTER KILLING A MAN!
This means that he either posted $30,000 cash himself, which he will get back 100% of if he shows up in court each time or had a bondsman post it at a cost of approximately $3000 which is non-refundable even if found not guilty. He is now home in Mexia already.
Another person was arrested for possession of some small amounts of some psychedelic drugs. He was held originally on $267,000 bond, which would have cost a non-refundable $27,000. After spending nearly $10,000 on a lawyer, his bond was reduced to $69,000 and was released after paying a non-refundable $7300 fee to a bondsman.
The punishment range for KILLING a man by driving drunk in this case was 2 to 20 years plus a maximum $10,000 fine.
The punishment range for possession of psychedelic drugs is 5 to 99 years plus a fine and the loss of any personal property without a lien against it (example: a car and any cash found). The person who was charged with the drugs received an 8 year sentence in the penitentiary and is now free pending an appeal. His appeal bond is $34,000 which cost another $3600 non-refundable payment to a bondsman.
No one was harmed in the drug case. A man was killed in the drunk driving case.
About 12 years ago a friend of mine was arrested for gambling charge and was held on a $100,000 bond. His lawyer told him it would have been a lot cheaper to have comitted murder. He said his bond would have only been about $30,000. We now see that his lawyer was right as evidenced by this drunk driver's $30,000 bond.

The long-awaited film version of Jim Henson’s ‘80s show Fraggle Rock is finally moving full steam ahead.

Announced over a year ago, the adaptation is being developed by The Weinstein Co. as a live-action feature musical to be written and directed by Edwards (Hoodwinked!) will direct and write the screenplay. The Jim Henson Co. will produce, and actor/rocker Ahmet Zappa is executive producing.

Like the HBO TV show, the movie will feature a mix of human characters and puppets. Stars Gogo, Wembley, Mokey, Boober, and Red will travel outside their cave home for the film and interact with humans, which they think are aliens.

Fraggle Rock debuted in 1983 and ran five seasons. IThe first three seasons have been released on DVD and are selling quite well…

SAN DIEGO (May 6) - Dozens of San Diego State University students were arrested after a sweeping drug investigation found that some fraternity members openly dealt drugs and one even sent a mass text message advertising cocaine, authorities said Tuesday.

Law enforcement officials discuss the undercover probe, dubbed Operation Sudden Fall, at a news conference in San Diego. Of the 96 people who were arrested, 75 were students. One of the students who was arrested was set to receive a criminal justice degree.
Two kilograms of cocaine were seized, along with 350 Ecstasy pills, marijuana, psychedelic mushrooms, hash oil, methamphetamine, illicit prescription drugs, several guns and at least $60,000 in cash, authorities said.

Of the 96 people arrested, 75 were students. Eighteen of the students were arrested Tuesday when nine search warrants were executed at various locations including fraternities, said Jesse Rodriguez, San Diego County assistant district attorney.

The undercover probe, dubbed Operation Sudden Fall, was sparked by the cocaine overdose death of a student in May 2007, authorities said. As the investigation continued, another student, from Mesa College, died Feb. 26 of a cocaine overdose at an SDSU fraternity house, the DEA said.

Those arrested included a student who was about to receive a criminal justice degree and another who was to receive a master's degree in homeland security.

"A sad commentary is that when one of these individuals was arrested, they inquired as (to) whether or not his arrest and incarceration would have an effect on him becoming a federal law enforcement officer," said Ralph Partridge, special agent in charge of the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration in San Diego.

Some defendants were scheduled to appear in state court to face charges Tuesday.

During the probe investigators discovered that in some fraternities most members were aware of "organized drug dealing occurring from the fraternity houses by its members," the DEA said in a news release.

"Undercover agents purchased cocaine from fraternity members and confirmed that a hierarchy existed for the purpose of selling drugs for money," the DEA said.

The district attorney's office said search warrants were served in San Diego and suburban La Mesa, including the Theta Chi fraternity house and several apartments.

A member of Theta Chi sent out a mass text message to his "faithful customers" stating that he and his "associates" would be unable to sell cocaine while they were in Las Vegas over one weekend, according to the DEA. The text promoted a cocaine "sale" and listed the reduced prices.

Theta Chi's San Diego chapter declined to comment.

"We're talking to our advisers," said John Phillips, a past president of the chapter.

Theta Chi, founded in 1856, has 131 chapters in the U.S. and Canada and more than 161,000 initiates.

University police and federal drug agents worked together in the investigation, making more than 130 undercover drug buys were made at locations including fraternity houses, student parking areas and dormitories, authorities said.

Shawn Collinsworth, executive director of the national office of Phi Kappa Psi, said he was told by two of the SDSU fraternity chapter's leaders that four of its members were arrested. He said the fraternity is cooperating with the investigation.

"It isn't behavior becoming of Phi Kappa Psi," Collinsworth said.

San Diego State is one of the largest schools in California's state university system with about 34,000 students. The campus has an active network of fraternities and sororities.

I got this BBC Documentery DVD from KPFT, and it is the full 3 Hour series detailing in grim detail how the bush/cheney regime weaseled its way into this atrocious war we are currently sunk in by using fear of the boogeyman to manipulate, lie to, and bully the media & people of the US into this horrible situation. I would love to burn copies for anyone who wants one, but I don't have a DVD burner. I will bring you the DVD if someone is willing to make some copies, heck I even have blank discs. Anyone up for this?
Naturally, this is not something that you will EVER see on any channel in our country. And it needs to be seen. Movie night at the Cafe perhaps, like the Wal mart screening?

Hi Sue,
Just another note from your bottom-dwelling brother. Last week I had bad day at the office. I know you've been feeling down lately at work, so I thought I would share my dilemma with you to make you realize it's not so bad after all.
Before I can tell you what happened to me, I first must bore you with a few technicalities of my job. As you know, my office lies at the bottom of the sea. I wear a suit to the office. It's a wetsuit. This time of year the water is quite cool. So what we do to keep warm is this:
We have a diesel powered industrial water heater. This $20,000 piece of equipment sucks the water out of the sea. It heats it to a delightful temperature. It then pumps it down to the diver through a garden hose, which is taped to the air hose. Now this sounds like a darn good plan, and I've used it several times with no complaints.
What I do, when I get to the bottom and start working, is take the hose and stuff it down the back of my wetsuit. This floods my whole suit with warm water. It's like working in a Jacuzzi.
Everything was going well until all of a sudden, my butt started to itch. So, of course, I scratched it. This only made things worse. Within a few seconds my butt started to burn. I pulled the hose out from my back, but the damage was done. In agony I realized what had happened. The hot water machine had sucked up a jellyfish and pumped it into my suit. Now since I don't have any hair on my back, the jellyfish couldn't stick to it. However, the crack of my butt was not as fortunate. When I scratched what I thought was an itch, I was actually grinding the jellyfish into my butt.
I informed the dive supervisor of my dilemma over the communicator. His instructions were unclear due to the fact that he, along with 5 other divers, were all laughing hysterically. Needless to say I aborted the dive. I was instructed to make 3 agonizing in-water decompression stops totaling 35 minutes before I could reach the surface to begin my chamber dry decompression. When I arrived at the surface, I was wearing nothing but my brass helmet. As I climbed out of the water, the medic, with tears of laughter running down his face, handed me a tube of cream and told me to rub it on my butt as soon as I got in the chamber. The cream put the fire out, but I couldn't poop for 2 days because my butthole was swollen shut.
So, next time you're having a bad day at work, think about how much worse it would be if you had a jellyfish shoved up your butt.
