Things to consider

So, many of you have never been out to the playa before the event and there are a few things you may want to keep in mind while planning this trip.

1) There are no port-a-potties! We are working on making arrangements to have a couple placed out at the pond for general use, but I'm not certain thats going to happen. At the very least, we will have a couple of camping chemical toilets and privacy screens, but that may be all. So, please remember to bring your own toilet paper and maybe a shovel for disposing of your solid waste (bury the toilet paper with said waste).

2) As of right now, there is no plan for having power. I'm sure some people will be using their cars as a source of power for music, etc., but also remember that this uses gas and the closest place to replace said gas is about 20 miles away.

3) The playa will be empty (read: easy to get lost in), so if you plan on running around on it at night, be sure to bring a GPS or someone who can get you back across the tracks. Also, there was still standing water on the playa last weekend, so it may be impossible to drive across it without getting your car stuck. If this happens, our options for helping you are extremely limited and will require finding someone with a rig big enough to haul you out, finding towing gear long enough to reach your rig with out getting the tow guy stuck, etc. So be careful!

4) High road, which is the gravel track that runs from 447 to Frog Pond, can be very treacherous. People have died on it, not always through any fault of their own. The track is narrow and curvy, the shoulders can be extremely soft, there are "tire-killers" (rocks big enough to split your tires like an over-ripe melon) all over the place, so driving slowly and having one or two full size spares is a very good idea. The nearest place to get a new tire is Reno or Alturas.

5) Food and water will be in limited quantity on the day of the wedding and completely up to you any other days you plan on being around, so be sure to bring enough to sustain yourself. We should have a grill or two out for preparing food on, but that may have limited availability due to amount of fuel, etc.

6) Shelter shouldn't be necessary, as I don't think it's going to rain, but you never know. Also, for all you sun-sensitive people out there: the Pond does have some trees for providing shade during the day, but not a whole lot of them, so bringing some of your own would probably be a good thing. Luckily, the wind hardly ever kicks up at the Pond as much as it does on playa, so your structure blowing away is not very likely. Also, there shouldn't be nearly as much dust in the air, either at the Pond or on playa, 'cuz 25,000 people haven't driven across it yet.

7) Insects shouldn't be too much of a problem, except maybe at nightfall. During the day, it's too hot and windy and at night, its too cold. Plus, at night, the bats come out, which helps in the dealing with them. Even so, we are 2 hours from the nearest hospital, so anyone with allergies of any kind should bring the means of dealing with them.

8) Fire: I know we all love it. There are two fire pits at frog that we can use, so please don't go about creating new ones. The last thing we want to do is burn down Nevada on our wedding day.

9) Which brings me to firearms! Yes, there will be plenty out there. And, not too far from the Pond is a wonderful junkyard with a LOT of shit to shoot at. And rumor abounds that the (in)famous FrogBat will be returning, then taken to the shooting range, lit on fire, shot at for a while and eventually blown up. This should be interesting.

And I'm sure I forgot a few things, but I'll continue posting here as I remember.

Basically, imagine you are coming to the burn, but without all those neat hints of civilization (toilets, no guns, etc.) that the burn has. Be prepared!
