We’re very excited to get this new release out the door. We rushed a few things a couple months ago and we have been working hard to fix the flaws and deliver a better interface for what we are trying to do.
We think you will find the new interface is cleaner, brighter and less cluttered than the last version. We have pared down the editor to the minimum functions to create a Jetpak while searching on Jeteye, and moved the remaining features to the Jetpak details page (the jetpak page, permalink, or whatever you want to call it!)
We have a contest for an iPod Nano running through Dec. 15th. See the contest page for details.
We have introduced a Jetpak of the Day on the anonymous homepage. This will be selected every day for its content or appearance. How will you use Jeteye?
Also new are the new browse pages. You can see top jetpaks, top users or top tags at a glance from either the anonymous user startpage or the ‘my jeteye’ startpage. The top 100 users and top 100 tags are presented in ‘cloud’ fashion, because we think that is a pretty nifty presentation method.
After you have logged in, your startpage is now customizable ala Google Personalized. You can add different elements and drag them around wherever you want them. You also have access to the browse lists here to see what else is happening on Jeteye.
Other new additions:
* Vastly improved auto-summarization based on Jetpak contents
* Much improved indexing and search capability
* Ability to format notes WYSIWYG style
* Full support for content internationalization (UTF-8)
And finally, we are happy to introduce the alpha version of the Jeteye sidebar for Firefox. The extension is a great way to use Jeteye to organize your Web on your terms. You no longer need to use Jeteye to find content for your Jetpaks, use any site on the Web and go nuts!
We’ve tested the site pretty thoroughly with the latest versions of IE and Firefox. We are very happy with the results and hope you will be too!
Known issues:
* Safari does not like our WYSIWYG note editor and there are probably other Safari problems that we aren’t yet aware of.
* When you try to edit a summary, there is only "save" button. No "cancel" is present.
* When you click on ‘all jetpaks’ without a query we should be friendlier with our error message
* The entire note when on view jetpak is hot and will trigger the WYSIWYG editor for that note - just the 'edit' link should be hot
* When a user is viewing their jetpaks via ‘my jetpaks’ we show ‘anonymous’ for the alias if it was shared anonymously -- this is superfluous as the owner is looking at their own jetpak
* ‘enter comment here’ does not disappear when the cursor enters the note editor
* New contacts are added silently without a success message
* "(no summary)" text does not go away until you refresh the page when editing the summary
* Linux firefox is not adhering to our document width
* Images from IMDB are not displayed in jetpak details
* Long urls and titles can be problematic
* "my jeteye" startpage items get added to the lower right out of sight.
Enjoy,
