OK Jim,
I don't want to hijack Miki Bow's thread, so I'm starting this one.
When do we get to read all about your Cairo adventures with La Principessa? I don't recall reading anything in the NY Times about you starting any sort of an international incident, so that's good. I didn't get any calls to bail you out of a Cairo jail, so that too is good. (Silly me, I figured it was only a matter of time!)
Anyway, so when do we get to hear/read all about your trip?? Inquiring minds wanna know!

Re: Jim's Cairo Adventure!
Thu, June 5, 2008 - 11:25 PMOkay, I'm preparing the blog info because I'm going to post the whole thing on blog.jimboz.com
I'll do a teaser here on Tribe when it's ready on my blog here and on Bhuz.
Until then, to whet your appetite:
6 Costumes! (Eman Zaki Custom, 2xRaqia Hassans, Mahmoud, Yasser and a custom Hallah Mustapha!)
Saidi Muthaf*cker
CLORM (nuff said)
Saidi Cab Driver (he now plays with sticks)
Hanging out with Katia (dancer in Cairo)
Cairo cab and traffic footage
Soraya (dancer in Cairo) is dreeeeeeeeamy!
Cairo is the dirtiest, smelliest, trashiest place I've ever been and I can't wait to get back.
I used to think that the people who said you HAD to travel to Cairo to understand the dance were just being elitist.
Trust me - I'm NOT being elitist. You MUST go to Cairo to absorb culture to understand this dance. I know I haven't done *everything* else before I went to Cairo, but I studied with Egyptians often - and I had plenty of clue. But there's just an incredible epiphany when you see the dance presented in its native environment, from the tourist boat shows, to the seedy cabarets, (Yes, 'cabaret' can be taken as an insult), to weddings. The pace of the city is incredible. The cultural implications are incredible! This dance is SO much more than a step here, a hip there.
Oh, and freakin Princess Farhana as a roommate...are you kidding?!? Freakin CRAZY!
I could not have had a better time in learning or in fun.
Considering the 2010 Belly Cruise "Rak the Nile" will be a Nile Cruise!
Would anyone be interested in joining the world's most dangerous belly dance event in the native land of the dance?
International Bail Bondsmen your own responsibility. ;)
But whattya think of that?
Pictures and videos to come.
Stillw aiting for the pics Farhana took. ;)
