Does anyone know what has transired with the www.didgeridootribe.com forum?
It was getting revised, then an option was added to donate via paypal, and now it looks like you can't even get in unless you pay.
Is anyone inside?
What's the deal?

  • Hey Robert...I don't know for sure what happened, but I do now that the re-design turned me off enough that I still haven't joined....not sure I ever will. They dumped everyone's identity and you have to sign up from scratch. Plus, they seem to have split it up into categories (18?) and who wants to surf thru that many categories every day?? I dunno about anyone else, but it seems to me that they made a poor site, worse...not to mention that it seems to be more about money now. I know of others who have given up trying to sign up....
  • Hi Robert and Per.

If you're not logged in, you'll see the paypal stuff when you try to explore. Once you login, it's not there much. I would suggest logging in and sharing your opinions or feedback. I've given some constructive opinions there myself. I'll admit to visiting there in hopes of seeing some improvements. I've met and became friends with many members from there, and I hate to see a forum interface taking away from the tribe!

I was able to re-register without any problems.

From the main page you can click the tab to see the latest posts. Last week the latest posts were by default on the main page. Not sure what happened there. So, you don't really need to click on every category to see the latest posts.

I hope the didgeridootribe can move forward with an inviting interface,
    Allan
    • Hi Allan,
I have registered, I have logged in, Many times. 2 different computers, operating systems. I can't get past the front page. I've been on that forum for years, through several changes, each one gets less friendly. I agree with Per on this one.
I wouldn't mind donating to help keep it alive.... I've met some great folks there and it has filled a spot that this and others don't.
But I can't get back in.
I can only imagine how someone who just found it feels.
Maybe I'll try to reregister as GOK: Ghost of Kellymon.....
      namaste,
      robert
  • I know some folks put a lot of time & energy into revamping the site, but it just isn't working for many of us. Here are some anonymous quotes (clips) from a few who have offered their thought to me. I pass them, and a few of my own on with only the best intentions.

Quote 1. "users can create their own private little groups, or public groups, so you have to "subscribe" to each group to see anything, or get a "sorry, this is a private group".... plus they created about 20 public groups..."

Quote 2. "another big problem..... they don't "grow" it with the community...... they want to build it and make everyone show up.... ain't gonna happen... not enough critical mass, it's like having a party for 500 and having 500 different party rooms, and no one shows up in the same room at the same time, so everyone thinks nothing is going on.... they are doing the sort of stuff that might need to be done if there were 5000 active members."

And in all honesty, I have to agree with these things. In the past I have also made suggestions and asked questions at the old site and they were largely ignored, and so I gave up offering what I thought would be useful ideas, as did several others. There was never a sense that a genuine interest in building a true community existed. It's the old, "you can lead a horse" thing.

If this site is to ever become what most of us hoped for, there will have to be some drastic changes made. I know of some who still cannot get in after many attempts. To make reading of postings only available to registered members is, in my estimation, a serious error and others have mentioned this as well.. Literally all other such forums don't require that, and doing so only serves to promote a sense of exclusivity. I truly feel that more would take an interest if they could be drawn in by being able to read posts without becoming members first. A good example of the kind of forum I was hoping for, exists at serioussticks...even though it focuses mainly on traditional sticks and issues, and I rarely participate, it has the feel and look of what has worked well.

OK....climbing down from soapbox. Thanks Robert, for starting this thread. I hope it results in some positive changes, or perhaps encourages others to set up a new, more user/community friendly forum? At least we can connect here:-)
