As she bathed in the unusually purple light of the zenith she wondered if low level of barium in the atmosphere could be responsible for the unusual tint but the answer eluded her though she knew that this subject had been covered in one of her chemistry laboratory exercises.

Then there's 'the horror of usury' (but that sparks nothing in me).
Cycle horror? I've certainly seen people after motorcyle wrecks---that's a horror alright...

The phrase at the bottom is "soar loser." (I don't normally work with the Final Answer, but it's an option.)
