INFP's

Hi there,

According to a pretty long test i've taken a couple of times, i am an INFP. I read the description and most of it fit like a glove .. but although it gave me some insight into myself, it didn't really surprise me much. Has this happened to other people? And beyond the simple characteristics it described, what experiences have other INFP's had? Did it simply reinforce things they already knew about themselves? Did it help them explore other options they hadn't previously considered in their life paths? I dont know anyone else who has taken this test to talk about in person, and i'd much rather read about others personal experiences than a textbook classification and explanation etc.

Thank you so much!

(i posted here a while ago re my phd .. but cldnt remember what my result had been then)

cheers,
eury

When you took the MBTI test, did you find that it showed some narrow margins between characteristics? For example were you borderline E/I or clearly I? If borderline on some of these, do you find that you slip from one to another depending upon the people you are around or the situations you are in or what?

I am an INFJ, but can be borderline E/I, T/N, and J/P. One thing is constant ~ Sensate is definitely my inferior function. With regard to the inferior function, do you find that tapping into that, as difficult as that can be, somehow makes you feel good?

"but although it gave me some insight into myself, it didn't really surprise me much"

As far as I can tell these tests are basically self-reports of personality traits, so I don't see why anyone's result would be a surprise. As you say, it can give some insight when you realize you're not just weird, but a special kind of weird having to do with preferring your own company to crowds and such. I too test out as INFP, and am a member of the INFP tribe.

I was hoping that we could get something going on this tribe ~ it has been dead for so long.

Hi Vicky Jo! Long time no see. I rather doubt that you are an INFP yourself. LOL! You seem more like an ENFJ to me.

Hello again. INFJ actually. Good to see you again. :-)

To the other person, I'd suggest you not dismiss my site as "self-promotion" until you've been there. Sure I offer my services as a life coach *AND* it provides more solid type information than practically any other type site on the Web -- stuff you won't read anywhere else. I've had nearly 50,000 visitors now, and plenty of fanmail from INFPs. It's not a membership site and I don't require your email address for you to get the "good stuff." It seems small-minded to disparage it as "self-promotion" when it costs me money to maintain it so others enjoy it for free.

So.... if you just can't get over that, you're welcome NOT to visit. Nobody's got a gun to your head.

And oh yeah, if you have INFJ preferences, I have another free site: www.INFJ.com
and my husband has a fledgling site for INTJs: www.INTJ.org

Lots of type freebies for people. We're very generous with information. :-)

forgot to say: type is not a trait-based model. So describing traits would not be consonant with the theory.

Of course, I explain all that on one of my websites.

I appreciate Vicky Jo, and her site. I visited there some time ago, will do so again soon to see what may be new!

Vicky Jo your site fits perfectly with our tribe and as a contributing member you have the right to post it where its relevant.

Don't worry about self promotion or other spam like issues as I remove them the minute I see them, (your posts don't fit that category).

Perhaps a new thread where we list how we work with Jung's theories concepts and practises.

Thanks for the note of reassurance, Frank. (And thank you for your diligence regarding spam.)

A thread about Jung's theories would be intriguing. I'm gratified by the current movements in the type field by prominent Jungians to bring MBTI type back to Jung's original ideas, so it's becoming highly appropriate to speak of Jung and type in the same breath whereas in decades past it may have seemed less so [oddly].

            :-)
