So, come support your friends and get 5 Cent Coffee's new cd!!!

Here's the scoop straight from the desk of Doodlz Larue!

~Henry

**********************************************

That's right...our debut album Bourbon and Beans is finally ready!!

Come on down and get your copy on Saturday February 9th or, if you can't stand waiting that long, you can purchase a copy online from our website: www.fivecentcoffee.com

Duck on Bike, our extraordinary manager has set up an all star party in San Francisco at the fabulous Plough and Stars on Clement St, and we're thrilled to be sharing the stage with some of the people who have helped us along these past two years -- the ukulele and jug band community in the Bay Area is hands down, the most friendly and warm bunch of people on the planet. It is these sort of folks who we drew on to perform last year's "Everything' a Dollar in this Box - The Songs of Tom Waits on Cheap Instruments" -- the show turned out to be a hit, and we can thank our musical community of friends for that. From "Uke-y Stardust" to the SF Jugband Festival, we've been lucky enough to be included on the bill with such local luminaries as Tippy Canoe, the Uke Apocalypse, Dogs in Doublets, Hobohemian's Boxcar Band, Just Henry, Liquor Cake, Amy Zing and The Goat Family. So we've asked them to come out and play a few tunes for us! Woohoo!

We thank you all from the bottom of our hearts for your support and hope you'll join us in celebrating our CD release! (We're going to put the party back in "CD Release Party")!

Here's how it will go down: We'll have an all star opening set and then... drum roll please....

5 Cent Coffee will the play the entire (soon to be legendary) album "Bourbon and Beans" from start to finish on ukulele!

Ohhhh! Ahhhh!

The All-star opening set features:
Dan Briggs' Dogs in Doublets
Liquor Cake
Amy Zing
Just Henry
Hobohemian's Boxcar Band
Tippy Canoe
Kelly McCubbin, (The Uke Apocalypse)
The Goat Family

"The Rise and Fall of Uke-y Stardust and the Spiders From Mars"
About a year ago I had a stupid idea, "We should," I thought, "get as many ukulele players as we could to play one seminal classic rock album from beginning to end." There was no question which record it should be.

This stupid idea exploded. Bands were formed, friends were made, projects grew out of projects and eventually, the whole thing had gained a life of its own. In this last year we've performed this show 4 times, "Purple Rain - When Ukes Cry", "Everything's a Dollar in this Box - Tom Waits on Cheap Instruments", "Plinkity Pleasures 1 and 2" and about a zillion other gigs all around the Bay Area.

And now it's time to move on, but not without propping the Starman up one last time to say goodbye.

So here it is...
The show that started it all, from the creators of "Purple Rain - When Ukes Cry". It's an entire evening of David Bowie, culminating in his glam rock masterpiece, from beginning to end, on ukulele.

Remember earlier this year, when you started hearing the buzz about a bunch of performers taking on an all-ukulele interpretation of some David Bowie album? Yeah, you probably even went to that show. Well, if you've been anywhere near those same folks and their ilk, there's a very good chance you might have heard whisperings of a new project. Well, what you're hearing is true.

At the behest of our fearless leader, Kelly McCubbin, Ukulele Virtuoso Extraordinaire, and First Horseman of the Ukulele Apocalypse, we're proud to announce the debut of yet another tribute to one of the greatest albums of our generation:

PURPLE RAIN: WHEN UKES CRY

Yeah, it's exactly what you think it is. Prince on ukes. (Could this be considered the Second Sign of the Uke Apocalypse?) After all, Prince pretty much struck gold with his awe-inspiring guitar licks that spoke to the youth of 1984, so isn't this timeless music deserving of a tribute by the guitar's tiny little Polynesian cousin? We say hell yes.

And by 'we', I mean:

STELLA! starring Kelly McCubbin and Amy Zing!
5 Cent Coffee!
Kitten on the Keys!
Koz!
And, of course, yours truly... Just Henry!

So come on down to the Rickshaw Stop at 155 Fell Street in San Francisco on November 9th. We'll start the night off at 8pm with some warm-up tunes to lure you soothingly, sultrily, into the world of the 4-stringed lothario, so be there with enough time to grab a drink and settle in for an evening of praise for "The Kid" of Minneapolis, and his breakthrough album, that spawned many a hot steamy make-out session throughout the country.

PURPLE RAIN: WHEN UKES CRY
NOVEMBER 9, 8PM
THE RICKSHAW STOP, 155 FELL STREET, SAN FRANCISCO

Tickets are going fast, so buy them online at www.rickshawstop.com!

To quote Morris Day: "Let's have some action! Let's have some asses wigglin'!"

See you there.

I certainly hope so, cuz we’re giving you more in the span of one week than we ever really thought we’d give in one lifetime! I’m telling you, this whole ukulele thing has grabbed us by the collective creative short-n-curlies and made us want to actually put some work into it! But we’ve never been the types to deny the inner masochist who demands that we persevere, sally forth and enjoy the hell out of it! I mean, after all, look at the people we get to play with!

For example, look at Friday, November 3rd. That night we’ve been invited by Tippy Canoe to join her and a bunch of our other pals from the Ukey Stardust shows – Stella featuring Uke Apocalypse and Amy Zing, 5 Cent Coffee, Uni & Her Ukulele, and Megan Lynch - to perform in the Second Annual Knockout Uke-Out! It’ll be at the Knockout at 3223 Mission Street @ Valencia in San Francisco. There’s an $8 cover.

And then, as if that’s not enough ukulele for the month, 6 days later, on Thursday, November 9th at 9pm, at the Rickshaw Stop at 155 Fell Street at Van Ness in San Francisco, we’re proud to present:

PURPLE RAIN: WHEN UKES CRY

That’s right, the entire Prince album as interpreted by Stella, 5 Cent Coffee, Kitten on the Keys, Koz, and of course, yours truly, Just Henry. Show up early, because there’s going to be a pre-show show, where some of these folks will warm up your ears and your hearts with more aural entertainment.

We hope to see you at both these shows!

Sure, everyone in this gathering of performers has worked together in one combination or another - 5 Cent Coffee, Plasterkatz, Stark Ravens - but an entire band dedicated to supporting the beautiful melodies of the ukulele? Crazy.

That's okay. Crazy is what we do.

Stick around, though, because Uke-Y Stardust and the Spiders from Mars was only the doorway. Due to the genius of Kelly McCubbin and Uke Apocolypse, we not only have another fantastic performance coming up with new and amazingly talented friends - Uni and her Ukulele, Tippy Canoe and the Paddlemen, Megan Lynch, Amy Zing and Stella - paying tribute to yet another famous and memorable album from our past (I'll keep the details under wraps until the time is write...) but we'll be joining those same folks in November for a performance of original music in a grand knockout of epic proportions!

So, stay tuned! We're looking forward to seeing what this primordial ooze evolves into!
