Well, that says it all doesn't it? I hope everyone is ok out there and this relatively quiet patch on here is due to you all having lots of fun and doing lots of nice things.
Disappointed that nothing has been posted about technique sessions.
Is anyone actually following this up? Did I agree to do it and have I forgotten all about it?

Re: Is everyone too bored to post or too busy?
Sat, February 9, 2008 - 5:05 AMJessica,
sorry, I was supposed to follow up the technique session with Kay and haven't got past maknig an initial enquiry. I've just been snowed under with work.
Does July/August suit anyone? I'm assuming most classes are off for the summer. I'll need to check with Kay what dates suit her. I'll email Kay this weekend. -

Re: Is everyone too bored to post or too busy?
Sun, February 10, 2008 - 12:28 PMHello everyone!
I have a quiet five minutes to write some more. I have been busy but also as no one else has posted anything for ages I end up reading my other tribes which are more lively!
How is everyone? I seem to have full classes again in that post new year kind of way. Anne Ashcroft had a great workshop last weekend and we have Bev and Jan coming down in a couple of weeks from Leeds to teach an afternoon workshop.
We have a charity Hafla next Sat eve for "Just Because" and our new community Bellydance group "SHIMMY". We now have over 60 members all in Shropshire!
I am really looking forward to Ford. I haven't anything planned bfore then due to lack of funds.
What have the rest of you been up to? Adele what is the latest on the mystery "Ican teach anything" teacher?
Jessica how was the hafla?

Re: Is everyone too bored to post or too busy?
Wed, February 13, 2008 - 8:11 AMHi everyone - sorry if it seemed I was chasing people up (Adele x) - just couldn't figure whether I was supposed to be doing something about the technique session! Thanks for your replies. Summer months are kinda ok for me but it would depend when - maybe we can start firming up when we get some possible dates from Kay?
Meanwhile all is well in fabulously sunny Cumbria!
The Hafla (for me) went incredibly well - we sold out, we had some smashing guests who cheered and danced the night away and we had some brilliant performances from all concerned - even some first timers felt marvellous afterwards - you know what it's like - it's over too quickly and you want to do it all again!
We managed to raise a little money for Just Because with our raffle which was great and an added bonus from the evening. We're hoping to do lots more - when I say we I kinda mean me as I haven't talked to others yet but I know they'll be willing if they're able!
I have had no negative feedback about the halfa (apart from the fact that some people were hungry before the food was served up) and some photographs and a review from Rita have been posted on the website : www.cumbriabellydance.btik.com
have a look and see!
Good luck with your charity hafla Jude - sounds exciting = sixty members of your community group - how "spread the word" is that?! They must create quite an energy!
Classes I teach are going well and I'm just about to embark upon teaching a block of sessions for an after school club to prepare them for a performance in the summer at a local Culture Bazaar.
I have also had some beautiful thank you cards from the beautiful brownies I did a session for recently. It went particularly well - we did a little basic spoken Egyptian Arabic and they were well away with the dancing! All shouting "shukran" at the end - it almost raised a tear to my eye and to the eyes of the waiting parents who must have wondered what sort of fundamentalist muslim information I had been imparting!
I must admit they did particularly enjoy running up and down "flying" with the wings which I kept reiterating were not much to do with Egyptian Dance - but they just loved it! Turns each!
Hmm, dreaming of flying and being princesses - where's the harm?!?!?! (Don't all write in at once!!)
Also looking forward to Ford and have booked up for the NADA AGM (Leeds) with the workshops with Marie Jensen (are you NADA members? - it's not expensive anyway and probably a good forum for a natter) - see the NADA website for further details www.nada.uk.com/ I met Marie at Farha Festival in the summer last year - she was lovely and a warm and entertaining dancer so I think her workshops will be fun - she is doing Saiidi with a modern twist and later will be explaining technique for using two and then three veils. Hee hee hee! Props a gogo.
I have also been mad foolish and spent money that I don't have on Beata and Horacio's workshops (Drum Solo and Choreo) and Show in Newcastle in May - they're madly fab, they are in Newcastle - not far from here (not that far anyway) - well, you would wouldn't you?! Meanwhile I understand they are also doing a similar gig in Lincolnshire. This is being organised through MADN though Christine at Farida is organising the Newcastle event or at least bookings for it - more info for the Newcastle event at madn@faridadance.com
I am too looking forward to Ford. I am tempted by a class at JOY on the Sunday afternoon with Sara Farouk about teaching. I DO WISH I could go (but it's such a long way and then when I think I might go I think well I should really go to the hafla too the night before and then I'd have to stay over and that's more money blah blah blah) which Is why I haven't made a decision yet. Maybe I'll look on the website for JOY and if the class is booked up by now well that's that isn't it?!
Yes, it's all mad in my head!
Jude - love yer blogs - keep me sane when I have a peak in the middle of the small wee hours.
Adele = are you coming to Ford? How's the wifey?
Others - I know you're out there reading this - say hello from time to time! xx -

Re: Is everyone too bored to post or too busy?
Thu, February 14, 2008 - 11:56 AMYep, all of that and not forgetting, the 'I forget to log in' aspect as well. There's a horrible feeling too that if you aren't on top of tribe posts and listings that you are somehow failing (well, i feel that anyway) and I hate that feeling, so I avoid it I guess. I also came late to the party about getting a weekend with Kay and told Adele I'd like to put my hand up for it. Sorting everyone's diaries (and Kay's) will be a nightmare, but I will come if I can whenever it is. Diary is manic at the moment and I'm trying to fit in a belly tuition session (for me) every month. It's fairly easy to do that as there is so much going on, but as you point out , Jessica, there are only so many hours in the day and pounds in the bank. You have to pick and choose and balance it against the rest of the stuff in your life. -

Re: Is everyone too bored to post or too busy?
Fri, February 22, 2008 - 6:08 AMWell, I've got to be honest - I don't check Tribe that often, sorry. My online addiction is Bhuz (www.bhuz.com - HIGHLY recommended). Anyway - I haven't been up to much other than teaching and dancing and the dayjob (oh, is that all???). I've also been 'reconditioning' a costume I bought second hand, which ended up being LOADS more time consuming than I anticipated, and revamping my website (www.desna-dances.co.uk, if you're interested ;-) ). I decided not to go ahead with the JWAAD diploma, and am now wondering if I made the right decision (rolls eyes). I did promise myself that I'd sort out some regular private lessons, but have been rubbish at sorting that out, and am now looking at the JoY schedule and wondering how I can go for just the one day and do everything I want to (the answer is - I can't) and wondering how I will afford it. Aaaargh.

Re: Is everyone too bored to post or too busy?
Fri, February 22, 2008 - 8:51 AMHi Desna, liked your article about the dance (on your website) very much and your tracey photos are beautiful. re what next after the foundation course - I certainly am thinking hard about this and I am trying to get a broader view of my commitments over the next year in order to build in time/sessions for personal development. -

Re: Is everyone too bored to post or too busy?
Sat, February 23, 2008 - 12:55 PMHi Jessica - glad you liked the article! The Tracey photos are really lovely - if you want to get some done, I highly recommend her. She is a dancer, so is used to working with dancers, and she made me feel really comfortable whilst the pictures were taken, and I am VERY nervous about cameras! -

Re: Is everyone too bored to post or too busy?
Sun, February 24, 2008 - 5:59 AMHi, yes Tracey is lovely - I'm very tempted to try and get to Hydra this year with Tracey, Kay and Sara - apparently Tracey is hoping to take along her studio equipment so if I go I may be tempted! Meanwhile I notice you are in on the Lubna/Bellydance diva loop - any thoughts that you would like to share here? I think we would be relying on quite a large geographical area of people being interested as I'm presuming these workshops will not be targetted at people who haven't been dancing long - but it hasn't really been made clear yet - Caroline has however booked the venue and is firming up times and costs. Have you met Caroline? -
-
Re: Is everyone too bored to post or too busy?
Mon, February 25, 2008 - 3:53 AMOoooh...Hydra (checks bank balance, shakes head, weeps).
Yes, the Lubna workshops - I think it's quite exciting really. I've met Caroline, and she's really lovely - she organises a lot of workshops in Edinburgh - last month I travelled up to do an Aziza workshop, there were Penrith people there (lady with the blonde hair...Hilary??? May have name wrong there!) so they could feed back too. I'd be interested in the skill level expected too - perhaps I'll email Caroline with a query about that. I agree that the workshops will probably need to pull people in from all over.
I'm quite excited about it, as I think there's more of a chance that some of my students will travel to Penrith than to JoY, etc. I keep drumming into them that they need to get input from more than one teacher....
