HA'AWINA 'EONO - MANA

MANA - LIFE FORCE if you will is an inherit trait shared by all animate and inamate things in our world. In the case of human life, each shares this as soon as we are born unto this world like wise with all things.

Our people viewed this as a simple process, much like harvesting their food sources. What I mean by this is that in order for food to be grown, it needs to be planted and nurtured until total fruition, just as we evolve in life.

In what we normally see as inanimate, i.e. rocks and trees for example, these too hold mana. The rock as it breaks down will turn to soil which in turn will provide the sustance for a tree over a period of time. This tree will then bring life through its growth cycle, and hence they hold mana....the life force.

In the practice of the Huna or Experts these truths are absolute. We are seen not as the ultimate commanders of, but instead petitioners of this world. WE are genuinely in sync with our natural surrounding, the UNIVERSE withwhom we co-create. Asking of it only what is needed at the time and bringing about change in whatever shape or form that we desire.

Granted, there are many in world that are born with extra ordiinary insight and these 'special' ones were chosen to carry our the job of Kaula - Seers, La'au Lapa'au - Medicinal Doctors and the like. Words are carefully used in order to bring about these changes and healing and seeing....

A few years back I was participating in an 'Awa (kava) Ceremony in the Isle of Nuku known to most as the Marqueses Islands. It was the first done there in over 100 years and surrounded an event that would send several voyaging canoes home to Hawaii. It was an auspicious moment for all. Our Halau, School of Learning, took 10 men and we 2 Kumu and Kalai Wa'a there to conduct these ceremonies. The Halau focus was to do Ceremony and in additon to that Hula in its traditional form. This is, not the variety that is often seen by the visitor to the commercial lu'au. It is rather the ancient practice of mind and body that mimicks our world and celebrates in moving poetry called dance.

The preparations were extensive for this trip. It and we endured much in the process. As we travelled there, the Ko'olau on O'ahu (mountain range) was covered by light misty rain and rainbows hundreds coming the mountain...a signal to us that our Kupuna were with us. In each cloud that we passed in flight were rainbows as well until the setting of the sun. The trip to Nuku was as wonderous as well, a beautiful sunrise and placid pacific that mimicked the heavens....you didn't know where the horizon began or ended. It was just beautiful.

We were met at the airport and taken by trucks to our Fare Ni'au, home away from home. Enroute scenery out of ones imagination unfolded, the only void were birds of any kind.
Along the way we stopped to secure some ceremonial plants - kinolau of the gods to be petitioned during the ceremony the following day.

As we gathered in our prayer circle, without a clound in the sky, a hard rain fell as soon as the first chant was offered and ended when the prayer ened with 'amama ua noa. Our drivers from the island were astonished to say the least. Their eyes reflected the confusion as to what they witnessed and now were a part of. Our men split up with my taking a few up aways from the road into a little ravine where everything that was needed was found.
While there three white birds- manu pitate - flew in to check what we were doing. These birds floated motionless just above our heads out of reach. With camera in hand one of the men, a professional photographer, tried to take their picture. Each time he raised the camera, they flew away then flew back when the camera went down. By the third try, I told don't you get it? Of course the response was what kumu? They don't want their picture taken, this is only for themoment..... We'd have a long discussion about this later.. Even 420 was there......and I told the men to leave it alone..... What really struck me was that these birds looked as if suspended on strings for where ever we went only their heads and eyes followed. There was no wind there at the time.....even to this day I see and know their presence was our Kupuna as well.

When we arrived at Tae 'Ohae Bay, we settled in and after preparations for the cermony set for the next day, I called the men to begin calling upon the winds for the voyage home to Hawai'i. We set up in a open feild in back of our fare and between the mountain that rose in the back. The men were set in a circle with their backs into facing out each uttering the same chant for about a 2 hour period. What was astounding was once we began, out of nowhere came the first bird, a small brown/black bird that the canoe people here use as a signal that land is near, its one of the first of the land birds that greet the weary traveler. By the time we were done, there were several hundred of them circling above. It was apparantly a big deal as the entire village came to see what these Hawaiians were doing to their world. By this time I was so moved by the scene that tears rolled from me unrestrained in full acknowledgment of our Kupuna and this Universe.

It was and is proof positive for me that this entity called god is the same the world over. That if what was being done is not godly, then truly I don't know who god is. But of course no matter what call it what you like....JUST CALL.

The ceremony began early the next day at 4 am with ceremonial bathing, the cleasing of the spirit and body. The sunrise chants went on for nearly two hours. During the course of this with everyone in regalia a photographer wanted the ultimate picture and those same drivers that brought us to this place had come again to witness the event began throwiing stones at the zodiac in which he was in. Mind you this is at 6 in morning and by now we had awakened everyone in the bay, those who were moored there as well as all the residents. It really was a funny moment seeing this unflod before my eyes and continue with the chanting to the sun....

What struck me as ironic was their take on the sacredness of the moment. We were clearly not doing a chirisitian like thing (so most would think) and yet they set aside their beliefs and honored ours by being as protective as their actions spoke. There was no communication gap. They (the islanders) to this day still talk of their experiences with us.

The 'awa ceremony lasted many hours and as we began a light rain fell on all and rainbows made their appearance and all was well.... The continuance of these signs made the effort all the more worthwhile.

We would leave here for Mo'orea and spend a week there before coming home. While there Randy and I would have a discussion regarding the unfolding of events. His was the mindset of coincidence rather than devine participation. What I tried to explain is that we are all a part of god and never apart from. So here we were in this beautiful paradise and I am having to explain the beauty of god when it was all around us, from land to sea. How easy is that to miss? Every step we take is a sacred one make no mistake about that. Every word uttered has its mana and therefore is released when uttered. Good or Bad the impact or action and word is all powerful and the faith in that knowledge is what allows the manifestation of this simple, basic and profound truth.

If you don't believe me, try being ugly for a day in thought, word and action. See what comes of it....and then try the opposite spectrum, goodness in thought, word and action and measure its results and you decide for yourself the who and what you are and which you would rather be.

I am sure that mana in its pure form is your choice no matter, its just a question of where you'd like to evolve and what you choose to evolve into.

PEACE LOVE JOY AND LIGHT BE YOURS

HA'AWINA EIWA.... LESSON NINE.... FROM THE PHYSICAL INTO THE SPIRIT REALM

Our belief in these two worlds are absolute, from the very beginning until now... it unfolds as I reflect on what has been said in this regard by my ancestors..

As we live our lives here on this earthly plane, we each came from spirit and return to spirit once this part of our journey is over. It was known that upon our passing, our family members came to bring us home so to speak....

Then, prior to the arrival of the missionaries, these family members, whether they were parents, granparents or children would greet the one that passed and take them to places called Leina Ka 'Uhane, or the 'Leaping of the Spirit' the portal if you will to the spirit world. Sometimes refered to as being the Kingdom of Milu...oftem times called the 'Underworld", which was anything but.

The funciton of the deceased member in the spirit world was to intercede on our behalf with our God(s). Today that part of the belief is still used to intercede in our present belief and religious practice... no matter. These beings are our 'Angels', they are called upon to petition for the betterment of life on this earthly plane directly with our God today.

This Godly Being known in times past as 'Io', 'Supreme Being' Light' if you will is the same as we know him/her to be today. Although the messenger that carried this forward is somewhat suspect in their actions, it the message is nevertheless carried forward and accepted at face value. By that I mean the message is what counts, not the person that brings it to you regardless of what you may think. Perhaps the downfall of many, and thus the same lesson is repeated until you finally arrive at this very conclusion before you move on in your spiritual journey. So the light-bulb moment is now......never mind the messenger, just see the message, understand it and be led to the light.... like enlighten yourself?

Understand your pathway in life, don't fight it... just flow like the ocean current, or the river's run....like the gentle breeze that fills your life.... go with it and watch the wonder unfold.... and remember.... doesn't matter who the messenger is in life... JUST SEE THE MESSAGE!

HA'AWINA 'EWALU - HO'OMALUHIA - TO MAKE PEACE

It is the journey of life that allows us to experience this lesson of being a peace maker. Some have chosen the path of violence in order to acheive this and in the process think that it is worth the while so long as their objective is reached no matter the price of it.

Wisdom, if you take into account, is supposed to dictate that perhaps another path is more desirable instead. All human beings wish to be free, prosperous, happy and in love with life. When we give up our individual freedoms to the whole, we end up with leaders who may think that what they do for the whole is right, just if you like, however as time has shown not all succeed at this, in fact some have failed miserably at it.

So, ho'omaluhia, begins and ends with you. You must rid yourself of all fears in your life before that process begins. Clear yourselves of the hiha in life and set yourself free to make peace with yourself and understand that you control only your universe and in time will become the being that you wish to evolve into....that said... your comments and questions are more than welcomed.

Sit quietly and begin the removal of those layers of illusion that you have gathered to this point and set yourself free from your self imposed bondage...

E OLA! Life to you...

when experimenting with mushrooms i have seen these cords attached to trees extending to infinty it seemed. my experience with trees attached to me was more like tentacles and didnt latch on to me for a long time. but the cord i saw on the tree seemed thick straight and seemed like it was there for some reason just projecting for as far as i could see.

'EHIKU KAU 'OLELO - YOUR WORD - DO NO HARM

Its been awhile since I last posted a discussion point in Na Kahuna Kaula. Ka 'Olelo is what I wish to share with you and how it is viewed and plays out into calling into being what it is that you wish to see in life, at the moment or moments if you will.

Firstly, PRAYER and MEDITATION is ALL IMPORTANT.
Secondly, Vision is the ability to call into being what prayer and meditation called upon.
Thirdly, Action, the words chosen to call upon the universe to concur...

So by this I mean that the three are intertwined and done at once... The word, yours to be exact is what will determine the result. Positive, meaning whatever your wish, must not house anything that is construed as being contrary to what the wish is in order for it to manifest. It sounds a bit new age in thought, but actually is an old practice that seems more and more the same throughout the world. It is a basic principle in the kahea or call.

Here is your task, again, belief and faith, understanding and practice will result in what is, what you call into being, by your words alone, this is the leesson in many prophet's lives.

Peace, Light, Joy, Laughter, Love....be yours

HA'AWINA 'ELIMA - HANALIMA

I have mentioned this in the past, and wish to share more with you now.....

Who we are in this life amounts to what we have done, not what we say we are going to do.
That for our elders was most important. It doesn't matter that we have the appropriate words that everyone wants to hear, but does the action of the person match what they say and what they do that is the crux of our thinking.

One's integritiy is at stake here, and even if you fool others, you can't fool yourself and those astute enough to see the forest through the trees so to speak.

So the path to enlightenment involves your doing the 'right' thing, which perhaps might be the most difficult task in this lifetime, but nevertheless does not include hurting others. No matter if they choose to hurt you. The response should always be goodness and light.

BE KNOWN FOR YOUR WORKS....get out of the way.....and allow all to unfold in its proper time and space.....HO'OMANAWANUI.....patience my friends.....BREATHE....deeply of the spirit and allow your ancestors....AUMAKUA.....to guide you....LISTEN....in silence and differenciate DESIRE from TRUTHS......slow down and don't rush.... you have all the time in the world with which to accomplish ALL TASKS......

Peace Love Light and Joy are YOURS

HA'AWINA 'EHA - PULE (PRAYER)

The manner in which prayer was approached was a simple one for our tutu. They communed with their creator on a daily basis and asked/demanded of their creator what it was that they wished for. Now remember that since god and we are one, he/she already knows this, however the formality of it is a reaffirmation, a setting of the record so to speak.
Remember we all have it in us to move mountains, how many of you believe that you actually can? I know and have seen this unfold before my very eyes....this I will share with you later.

In sharing this veiw with a woman one day, she called me pretentious even rude for thinking that God would listen to this lowly being. Not only does the creator listen, he/she grants that wish.

I have come to realize through affirmation that it is exactly as they did that our God wants.
Better to face our creator one on one than not at all. The relationship between us is not as far as organized religion wants us to believe. If we choose to, our relationship is and can be a wonderous one....one on one.

What is the most awsome experience is once you establish this connection, the world is yours so to speak. You will understand your place here and now, but more importantly see your surroundings in a much different light.

All have life... ALL If you consider yourself to be master above all, then perhaps you are in for a rude awakening. Know this, unless and until you can physically control the elements you are no more than ant moving his dinner.

If however you understand that in each there is life and ask of it what you will, your results will astound you. These things have been taught from the ancients. Some of us lucky to be around them and learn can help lead the way.

What is it that you wish to know, to do, to accomplish? Let us start together....ask and it will be made known to you....sit quietly and let the god within commune with the god with out.

peace love joy and light be yours

PIKO

The ancients taught that we have three piko, or umbilical cords that are tied to successive generations. Life lines to past, present and future.

The PIKO MANAWA is the fontanel and ties us to our ancestors. It was encouraged to keep this portion of the po'o soft as long as possible so the teachings of our tutu would be done while the child matures. Giving that child knowledge beyond their years from generations past. it encourged the unseen ties.

The PIKO ('OPU) is the umbilical tie from child to mother. Commonly refered to as being your 'belly button'. Here is the connection to family, and the present generation.

Finally PIKO 'ilalo' the lower piko or ma'i as it is called is the connection to the future generations. It is here that the ability to procreate is evident. Whether the choice is to physically accomplish the task or not, the responsibility is never shirked. You are still responsible to the next generation.

These piko are daily reminders and physical ones as well to past, present, and future. How will you make due to insure the survial of all? The piko are all of our collective kuleana to care for and allow to continue until all life ends as we know it.

So, what in your life are you doing to accomplish these tasks? Is it important enough to do?

here is your challenge........
peace love light and joy... charles

The spoken word is all important. It calls into being those things that you wish to manifest, positive or negative. It really is a choice of paths, who you wish to be. What you wish to experience and the like.

Our ancients would practice this, in full. Choosing both ways in which to make real the lessons.

The KAHUNA or what some refer to as 'Hawaiian' Shaman is the keeper of hidden truths. In other practices there are bits and peices that are made known to the masses as well. Have you listened well?

I've stated their practice before, and do so again. I ka 'olelo ke ola, a i ka 'olelo ka make. In the word there is life, and in the word there is death.

The practice meant in the spiritual sense the depth to which these Kahuna made their practice. In the everyday lives of the masses, the same in a much more practical sense. Knowing full well the potential of their words, they'd choose wisely.

It matters not what the language is, all words hold meaning and therefore mana or power. Therefore how does one proceed? Much in the same way as the ancients.

Choose... and choose wisely for you summon into being what it is that you wish to unfold. Know. See. Witness. Understand the beauty of this world that we are co-creators of. You and the Creator are one and the same. Yours is the universe, time to claim it don't you think?

Peace Love Light Joy

HA'AWINA 'ELUA - HO'OMANAWANUI

Each and every morning begin with 4 breaths, deep, through your nose and exhale through your mouth..... WELCOME your day with this simple exercise.... I'll explain this to you eventually, for now just practice without thought to the why and accept fully without any other thought than to take in....

They said that to be patient is to HO'OMANAWANUI. I like to translate this to mean at the same time, "TO MAKE MOST USE OF THE TIME AT HAND".

As you allow things to unfold you must also prepare yourself for the eventuality of your intentions, and what you are working towards....As you continue the practice of Ho'omanawanui, you will see that being patient doesn't mean that it takes forever to unfold, only that it unfolds faster as you practice patience.....

HO'OMANAWANUI......

Peace Love Light and Joy as you travel the path of Light... charles

The 'umeke, bowl, of light is our inheritance upon birth. Each is given one that holds light and as we progress through the trials of this earthly realm we each gather light or not.

Here our ancient wisdom tells us that our actions or inaction depending upon the circumstance will either add to the light or diminish it. Lets us collectively insure that we only add more light to that bowl or ours each and every day. Every waking moment from this day forward.
