I had an experience the other day where I received clear impressions of what I can only call 'diving into a group mind'.... It wasn't like I was doing anything different than I had done before, but for some reason this experience was cast in a different light, and seen from a different perspective.
I remember Sherpa saying on the Chapel Perilous Tribe that "Time is the Autobiography of Space", and that time is the movement of thoughts; no thoughts, no time.
During this experience I had the distinct impression that there was a different way to perceive time... the only way I can describe it is like 'surfing group minds"... lol I know this isn't coming out very articulately. I guess I saw a way to move which I hadn't seen before...like through the layers of an onion...
does this resonate with anyone?

Re: group minds and a different perspective on time
Fri, November 6, 2009 - 5:49 PMWhat resonates with me is your sharing with us a distinct impression that allowed you to perceive Time in a way you have not experienced before. Your phrase "surfing group minds" mirrors what I might call a navigational strategy, where you get to experience a phenomena -- in this case, a group mind -- by moving with it or by being propelled by its force or momentum, without getting snagged on what it might mean or trying to anaylze the event.
As you know, we don't have to understand a phenomena in order to experience the energy or frequency of the phenom. We can tap into its force and even use it for purposes of our own. I also think you may have tapped into a circuit six second attention process. Not to self-promote too much but these very ideas -- of navigating the forces of the gestalt -- drove me to writing my new book, THE EIGHT-CIRCUIT BRAIN.
The quote, "Time is the Autobiography of Space", is by e.e.cummings, one of my favorite poets. -

True, I can brush my teeth without understanding biomechanics, physics, and physiology, and I can drink a glass of water without understanding chemistry.
Going with the group mind impression was a sense of questioning: How many people are doing this exact same thing at the exact same time, and then, how many people are thinking the same thing as me at the same time? I felt that there was, and this may be obvious to some, a profound connecting force uniting those participants in "shared rituals" if you will.
Then I saw the strata conception of consciousness and time, and how when due to our movement through space-time, we appear to be moving from past--> future but really we are (also?) moving from dense/coarse to fine/refined. This seems clear to me in the analogy of martial arts, or if you like, any activity requiring a great deal of skill to master. Those entering into the activity begin with little skill but enter the group mind nonetheless. They participate in the rituals and refine their skills, apparently moving from past to future but I argue "surfing from the outer reaches of the group mind to its core.
Does this come across clearly?

Sat, November 7, 2009 - 2:56 PMJohnD -- I think it's cute the way you seem to be seeking validation or proof for what you already know to be true. Or maybe you are designing your own schemata for codifying your deeper intuitive impressions (maybe as a way to help explain the unexplainable for us?). You are an awesome cyber-social surfing dude shredding the cultural tsunami slo-mo crashing around us all. KOWABUNGA GERONIMO! -

Re: group minds and a different perspective on time
Sun, November 8, 2009 - 8:43 AMAnd Katrina, for the sake of clarification, although I may have sought validation in some sense my deeper intent was to articulate my understanding of a novel personal experience in a way which could resonate with another's experience and possibly spark a slightly new understanding or birth a new perspective for me and also the other.
Even though I find it demeaning, I rather my ways be called cute than stupid, or worse, redundant. -
