I'm in the UK and I've only just discovered Kassar - via the Fluid Precision DVD - which I love. Just having a bit of trouble sorting my lefts from my rights - all those turns - I've been screwing my head off looking over my shoulder and trying to work it out. I'm getting there but I'd love a workshop.

Everytime I discover a new troupe/dancer and I think I'll never get the chance to take a workshop - they turn up in the UK. It's been working like magic so I'll be waiting impatiently for the announcement :-)

I went to your website and clicked the link for the performance DVD, and it didn't work. Is it still available?

We have the pleasure of performing with Urban Tribal this weekend at the MECDA Carnival! Urban Tribal performs on Saturday on the the gypsy stage at 4:50PM and then we have our regular scheduled performance on Sunday at 1:57PM on the bazaar stage. Hope to see you all there!

Hello everyone. I am the Volunteer Coordinator for MECDA’s 2008 Belly Dance Carnival. This year’s Carnival will be held Saturday and Sunday, June 7 & 8, 2008, at Santa Anita Park Racetrack and we are currently seeking Volunteers.

Remember, on the day that you volunteer 2 hours of your time, ADMISSION IS FREE!!!!
Volunteer for 2 hours each day and ADMISSION IS FREE FOR THE ENTIRE WEEKEND!!!!

Think you have mastered your isolations? Join Kassar for a workshop that will push your boundaries and train your mind and body to connect and move in unique ways. We will travel with basic isolations, expanding your technique repertoire and movement vocabulary. An open mind and a basic mastery of tribal isolations is recommended, but not required. This challenging workshop is open to belly dancers of all levels.

The amazing duo from the north is gracing us with their presence here in DC, Sunday Dec 8th for a tribal fusion belly dance workshop! And following the workshop we'll be celebrating the holidays at our HOLIDAY HAFLA! open to people interested the tribal belly dance community in the DC area!

Melanie and Karin began their history together as a collaboration for a New Jersey Renaissance Kingdom performance. From there, the duo Kassar was born. They have been dancing together as Kassar for the past seven years, all the while studying with numerous instructors of the tribal persuasion. Between them, they also bring a background rich in formal ballet training, West African dance, tango fusion and Indian dance technique. This has culminated in the development of their own unique, highly-acclaimed style of tribal bellydance. Kassar has since grown to both teach workshops and perform nationwide. This is the disciple who is bearing witness about these things, and who has written these things, and we know that his testimony is true. Now there are also many other things that Jesus did. It was very nice to bump into you all weekend and the floorwork class was great! Many times there is too much info packe into a two hour workshop and the info doesn't stick. Not at all with you ladies!! The length and amount of choreo was perfect!

The performance was beautiful. I always feel like my jaw is hanging open when I watch Kassar perform!

I just finished designing Raven Spittles new "heraldry" to be used on new favors and a flag for the ship.

My beautiful wife Karin from Kassar has a Cafe Press site for t-shirts and the like so i thought it would be fun to put the logo on them and other items eventually. The plan was to just make them available to members at base cost price but when talking to other Spitites, we decided to offer them to the public at a slightly increased price...this is where you start to say "ewwwww, filthy pirates!"

The "profits" from the shirts will be contributed to the Vlad party fund. Are there worthier causes out there? I'm sure some could argue that there may be :P but hell we love the kids over there and they keep us happy and happy pirates are...well...happy! :)

Beautiful cannot begin to describe the space at Asbury Hall at The Church. From its soaring steeple, to its Medina sandstone Gothic Revival facade, to its Booth & Reister stained glass windows, The Church will be an inspiring backdrop to learn from the leading instructors of Tribal belly dance. The venue is perfect for our festival. There are beautiful hardwood floors for dancers' tender feet and there is a state of the art geothermal heating and cooling system. It is an environmentally-friendly approach for providing climate control. Finally, there is a plethora of hotels, restaurants, nightclubs and shops nearby to enhance your Buffalo experience.

Kassars performance at TF this year was absulutly amazing!!!!!! So horizontal, lol!!! No really it was beautiful...I always love the wonderful angels that are created when the two of them dance. SO many interesting shapes and lines are created during this peice that it almost felt like I was watching some fabulous painting dance around the page!!!!

Alchemy Performance artistic director Sarah Johansson Locke is a resident artist at Galapagos Art Space. Dancers, musicians, spoken word and circus artists, these performers sample ethnic and electronic elements -- from India to the Balkans, North Africa to Brooklyn -- and remix them into a moving collage across cultures.

may I ask, what's the title/artist of the song you used in warmup and during the slow practice of the choreography? not the 99 meters song but the other? it's the second time I've heard it and I'd love to use it for my own warmup. gracias!

Huntsville, AL to get musked!!

Yeah, we've managed it. Mel and Karin of Kassar fame will be in Huntsville, AL November 18-19 to make us sweat, courtesy of The Naughty Nomads. The workshop wil be held at The Studio located at 1219 C Jordan Lane which is on the corner of Jordan Lane and Commercial Drive in the Penny Plaza across from Chuck E. Cheese. That Saturday will be partnering choreography and Sunday will be partnering with floorwork. Each day will offer 3 hours of classes starting at 11am with an hour for lunch starting at 12:30. Don't miss this one --- getting these chickies here from New Jersey is NOT an easy task! And while you're here you can attend the Third Annual Shahala's Toys for Tots Show which Kassar will be performing in. Come on and join us --- you could even be in the show and be able to claim that you danced on the same stage as Kassar! The price is only $75 for both days or $40 for one day as long as you pay before the day of the workshop. It will be $90 at the door for both days or $45 for one day. That's a great price for these two gloriously wonderful dance teachers!

Kassar Workshops in L.A.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hey all!

In addition to coming out to appear in the latest theatrical dance show from Malice Dreaming Productions, 'Original Sin', we are pleased to be offering not 1 but 2 partnering workshops!

Partnering Choreography
(12noon - 2pm) ~~This workshop will focus on dancing with a partner, including some yoga based partnering moves and some new tango fusion! The focus of this class will be presenting combinations that focus on traveling and moving around your partner, and interacting with your partner in unique ways. In this fast paced class, every movement will be outlined and drilled, then combined to form the final choreography. No need to feel you have to come with a partner, there are always plenty to go around!

Partnering with Floorwork
(3pm - 5pm) ~~ This workshop will focus on partner dancing integrating floor work which will be presented in a choreography. Every moment will be outlined and drilled, then combined to form the final choreography. Because of the extensive floor work kneepads are a must! This class is designed for more intermediate/ advanced dancers, but options will be presented to change moves for beginner students.

When: Saturday, August 12th, 2006

Where: Marrillyn McDowell Studio of Dance- 324 Redondo Avenue Long Beach, California 90804 Cost: $30/ one workshop $50/ both workshops!

i just wanted to say that not only did you deliver and amazing performance, but you also taught a kick ass workshop. i saw you the first time about 3 years ago when i first started belly dancing, at a domba workshop in upstate, ny...and i was mesmerized by the way you dance together. it was amazing for me to finally get to see you both perform again and also get the opportunity to take a workshop with you. thanks for coming to northern migration...i hope you both will come up to upstate ny again soon.

I truly believe in the law of cause and effect.. I may not have a lot of money to throw around, but I have a happy home life, a satisfying career, and...all of you......*hug*

so here are the details.
I start June 23rd, (what a great birthday gift!)
it is on adelphia channel 20 (I think) on fridays in the city and fridays in the burbs...
(yes, TWICE a week!)

ok, we reach anywhere there is Adelphia cable..look for the station that used to have the "Greg Sterlace" show, that time slot is where you'll find the show...
I don't know what Richard will put in it's place until then...maybe re-runs or stand ins, there are a few co-hosts that can cover (which is good since I am always on the go!)

sooooooooooo...here I go...next step....WHO do I bring onto the show?

PM me if you have something interestingor funny to share! (no salespeople please, I am focusing on events in the community and the people who run them...)

maybe a bellydance special is in order for the first show? we have one hour to cram everything in, if I can get 2 performers per show (preferably bellydancers) that would be coooooool....

I would like the first show to be about how bellydance has affected your life and people's view of you...

please write a short paragraph describing your life in bellydance AND if you are interested in doing a 2-3 minute dance, let me know, I do have copyright permission to use the music of Jehan and of Snakes Rising..I am in the process of getting more music for the show that we can use without violating any copyrights...

music from Snakes Rising can be purchased via Amma in my friends list..
I also have several of Jehan's CDs available for purchase....

OR if you have music to use where the artist has given you written consent (this is public access TV- not a "pay per ticket event" so the rules are a bit more lenient-we will give credit to the artist in the show)

Ok my lovelies..let's see what we come up with! this is YOUR spotlight now!

Hello! I'm sort of a newbie here, and though I've been hanging out for a while, I've never gotten up the nerve to post!

Filling out my pre-reg form for Pennsic made me wonder: Are the Kassar ladies attending this year and bringing their fabulous wares with them? Also, are you part of the Cure Salee line-up or teaching at all?

I missed the show last year and am planning my trip accordingly just to catch it this time.

I'm a little embarrassed - my first Pennsic two years ago I was admiring your dancing across the fire and walked right up to the two of you and said "hi, you dance beautifully! where are you from?" not realizing (doh!) who you were... I've learned since then and your wares tent is one of my favorites at war!
