Happy 4th Of July!!!!

It was really easy to get on tribe today, so Im assuming everyone here in the U.S. is out on picnics and at BBQ's or doing something fun!

Not me, though. I could have done, but since I stayed up late watching Marie Antoinette and slept in late, I decided to go to work, finish up a wedding dress, cut Sampants orders and get others' stuff ready for shipping. Since I work for myself, I can take a day off when I really need to (sometimes).

Thanks for all your patience. I'll be watching fireworks from the deck tonight if the fog does'nt roll in.

July is getting pretty busy here in my workshop! Ive got Sampant and Bum Ruffle fabric arriving, then it needs to be cut and sewed up. For everyone who has been wondering where the F&*^ these things are, I had to find a reliable source for fabric and I got some color swatches in the meantime.

I have a list going to see who was interested. What Im going to do now is take pre-orders to cover put up costs and to ensure that everyone gets thier order. I'll start this on a new thread and I'll tell you what to do.

I have some of you down already - and some have already paid - you will get yours very soon, I promise.
Sorry about the delay, I went through a bit of a growth spurt (thank you all sooooooooo much!!!!!) and that changed how I have to do things now to keep the flow.

Garter Shorts and Leg Rufflies

Im starting to take more requests for the garter shorts and the Leg Rufflies.

The shorts are white, ivory or black with a good strong elastic waist like the pants.
They are a true short and not a skimpy little garter belt.
The garters are old school vintage style elastic with metal and rubber hardwear.
They will hold up and not wear out.
They are locally made by me or elves.
They are a high quality item.
They are made in very small batches.
They dont fall down.
They hug your butt.
They are made of a cotton lycra or something similar and substantial.
The only color the garters themselves come in is white or black.

Leg Rufflies are basicly a Fluffie Rufflie™ Dance Pant without the upper pant.
I offer them in the same colors: white, Ivory, Black, Antique-a combo of white and creams or beiges.
I take requests if it is possible. Not all colors or fabrics are available.
A 2 inch band at the top lets you attach garters easily
They come in a standard length of 23-24 inches total, but I can make them longer or shorter

Tribal Fest 08

I didnt think I was even going to get to go to Tribal Fest at all this year, but Marsha from FatChanceBellyDance asked if I wanted to ride up with her yesterday (saturday) and so I went for it. It was odd being there and not performing or vending, but just walking around and soaking it all in.

I didnt go the year before and maybe even the year before that (oh the years fly by) and I was blown away by how everything had changed.

The quality and diversity of much of the merchandise was stunning, I will say. Many of the booths were like little sanctuaries of bellydance heaven! Just like I dreamed it would be one day. A lot less tacky and a lot more pulled together. So next year I hope to be vending again. Thought it would be this year.......but other things got in the way.

Something to look forward to.........

Lipo In A Box

Ima sucka for advertising - when Ive thought something through and the product seems like a good one. I saw this company on Oprah (doesnt everyone tell time by what time thier tv programs come on?) and I really like them. I was feeling fat that day and instead of sit ups, I bought a girdle. I havent tried it on yet, but it was very well made.

Then I joined a gym.

But I keep seeing dancers in the wrong size bra and they dont want to wear anything with a band around the base of the bra (the part that actually holds someone up)- Im talking about the larger breasted ladies out there. I have nothing to hold up, so it doesnt matter - I have to pad my bra out to look like curvy.

I saw this bra on the website and I like that they talk about sizing and tell you how to measure. Just thought I would pass this info along.

A couple of thier bras could be modified a bit to look sexier. I think this link may direct you to where they can be purchased as opposed to buying them from thier site ( could be wrong - didnt investigate too thoroughly)
I used to purchase thier merry widows and bras for a theatre company that I worked for and I swear by them. They are not as beautiful as some of the other lines of bras, but like I said, they can be modified and they will hold those girls up!

Wedding Season

Its funny that there should be a "season" for getting married, but this is the time of year when people usually get hitched. It must be that primal springtime urge to mate. It is also when the weather starts warming up and people feel alive and restles again - time to make new. I have rarely made a "traditional" wedding dress (Im talking bow on the butt cookie cutter wedding topper style). I prefer to garb a bride - no matter what her/his age or gender prefference in something that looks unique and amazing.

Im working on two brides right now. Both are as different as night and day, yet both are very hip ladies. One is going to be fairy tale perfection in corset and billowing sheer fabrics. The other is having me make her a dress from her grandmother's hand embroidered linen tablecloth with matching napkins.

Not everyone is into this kind of thing, but I guess my question is..............what makes you feel special if you are planning to make that kind of wedding/handfasting/whatever kind of lifelong commitment?

And if you already did so, what did you do differently that made it special for you?

So....Unsinkable Molly and I are sitting here in my studio discussing fashion and costuming and we got onto the subject of costuming a solo piece for belly dance. And then I thought that it would be fun to do a haflah where we costumed ourselves as we would like to think of ourselves and not as the current trends and fashions in the dance world. (unless, of course, that IS your favorite look for yourself!) I, of course, would just stand there and shimmie in flowing gown, hair done up and a tiara. :)

The Rattie Tattie™ Dance skirt: A little coverup to go over your Flufflie Rufflie™ Dance Pants and pantaloons. No two skirts will be alike, but there is a basic shape and it consists of an overlapping layer of knit lace and whatever floats our perspective boats. But Im just curious if that is something that you would like to see offered in the Fluffie Rufflie™ Dance Pants. They would be awfully cute! Just wondering. I saw a model on one of Hossam Ramzy's cds in something just like this and they were pretty sexy!

I was also going to offer lace up Garter Shorts.

U.S Postal Service Woes.....

Due to a couple of big boo boos on the U.S. postal services' part, I am afraid that I dont trust them anymore when it comes to sending anything out of the country. So postage and handeling will have to go up a bit in order to insure safe and speedy delivery outside of the U.S. Id rather we were all put out a bit and you get your packages than I rely on what is seemingly more conveniant for me and cheaper for you. Thanks!

Im in a very victorian mood right now.
But Im also in a somewhat more tailored than usual mood. And these have been seen on stage a lot lately.

I guess this could include dance wear as well since that seems to affect most of us!

Kathleen,

I have noticed around tribe a few people who've got pants just like yours for sale- I know ruffled bloomers aren't exactly a new invention, but doesn't it ruffle your feathers just a little that these people are taking something you've worked hard on?

As far as I'm concerned personally, I won't ever get any from anyone else but you, because for me you were the original, and you make the best ones. I know I can trust your work.

I get defensive on your behalf- and I always want to say something....but I mind myself...

Maybe I'm pmsing and thats why I'm so sensitive at the moment....

The Great Escape

Well, Ive been trying to get my orders done and ready to ship tomorrow. Ive had to run errands and deliver and try to install drapes in a showcase house today where things just didnt quite go right. The belt on my sewing machine just broke. I cant get a part til monday. Im getting on a plane and heading out for two weeks monday morning. The Universe has just told me to stop. S.T.O.P.

So Ive had a couple vodka shots and Im going to have to ship when I get back. everyone affected will get a notice and IM sorry - there isnt anything I can do.

My roomates thought I left last week already because Ive been so busy here at the shop that Ive been basicly invisible. So..... sorry. I'll check my emails periodicly and make replys, but its time to go pack. Thanks for your patience and I'll get a new belt when I get back.

I'll be away from Oct. 29th - Nov. 14th. Im heading off to UK shores, but I will be checking my emails faithfully and still conducting biz, it just might take me a bit longer to get back to you. All orders promised before I leave will be shipped off and I'll keep you all updated on whats going on.

My Nightmare is Back

I dont expect anyone to actually agree with me here, but I have been appalled by almost everything this spring/summer has had to offer the average/non average woman who cannot afford better clothing. While stores like target, H&M, Ross, etc. are offering pretty detailed items for our closets for cheap, ( I cant compete). the styles are so butt ugly and unflattering in general - esp. the shoes, that I feel we should all be taking to the streets. Fuck the war and its implications - we look like shit. This has gone too far.

Im not saying that there are no cute things out there, because there are. But this is the first season where I have been just completely disgusted.

And according to my spies, next season will be the ugliest ever. We are supposed to be wearing solid blocks of ugly colors (no prints) with gloves and black accessories. In my mind it all looks like ugly 80's. Gloves are back and fabulous - so maybe there is hope. Black accessories may not be so bad. I like black. But I have a problem with the colors that threaten to make me vomit. And Preppie. Preppie is back. Can you hear my primal scream?????

Amazing things happened in the 80's and I sure had a lot of fun. But I didnt like the comtemporary fashions then either so much. Punk, R&R, Goth, New Romantics, New Wave......the alternative scenes gave me my escapes and will continue to my death. But my nightmare is back. I hope Ive got it all wrong......I cant wait til this faze of trends is over.

I just had to have my little tizzy fit. Back to sewing...........

short people dilemma....

okay..here goes I am maybe 5 foot if I stand up really straight, my leg length is all of a 23 inch inseam...I love your pants but I fear the ruffles will either
1) take the entire length of my leg with the normal placement of the ruffles or
2) be so overlapped that I will look like I am a squished legged person or
3) the rufflles will be too narrow too look or act like the 'normal' length ones...

What would you suggest for me?...*pout*

Rufflies Walking Around

I hardly ever go out these days for one reason or another, but I have a friend over from the UK and he dragged me out to Nickies last night because Cheb i Sabbah is back. Not only was the music and the vibe amazing, but I saw a pair of ruffled pants walking around. They were not as nice as mine (in my opinion). Ive got the mega ruffles and the ones I saw were a little scanty, but it was kinda cool. I should have worn mine, but they were in the wash. So......I guess they are on the high end of things. No? I liked seeing this look off the stage as well as on! She looked great!

Got to get my new ideas out there. Its been a seemingly slow to get things moving kinda year....but sometimes thats how it works. Lots going on behind the scenes in the ether and then BOOM - its all out there in the world. Kinda like magic! I love it!

And I just love what you all are doing with these ruffle pants! Its so fun to see your photos! I wanta see more!!!! Thank you everyone for your business and all your patience!!!!

Im Back.....

I didnt really go anywhere except crazy, but I had to take a break on taking orders and had to get some work done. If you have been patiently waiting for your orders, they will be on thier way. My helper, Molly, is back from vacation also and it is now on with the show!

If you would like an order to arrive by Christmas, I would suggest ordering soon. I will be going to the UK in November for a couple weeks and then it will be Xmas before we know it. Yikes! Where did the year go!!

Due to fabric and supply prices going through the roof, I am forced to raise my prices accordingly after the 1st of the year. So order soon!

I'll soon be offering these pants in other fabrics.

Pregnancy Rufflie Pant Dilemma

I have two big gigs in Oct. that I desperately want these pants for; however I am 5 months pregnant & am unsure of how much bigger I will get. Since there is a two month suggested pre-order time...I don't know how to send my measurements.

Dilemma two: with a new baby on the way & being broke it is challenging to justify buying $150 pants that I can only wear a few times. Are they stretchy enough that I might be able to wear them when I get my real body back? Or can I easily take in the waist?

The cusoms let my package come without taking some taxes. I´m soooo happy.

sooo i saw some cute uh partial pants at tribal quest last weekend...picture thigh highs x melo pants bottoms...soooo how awesome would it be if there were ruffly partial pants?! ooh ooh!!!

they might take less time to make, and cost a bit less for totally broke college students like myself? :D i think theyd be a great alternative, and work great under belts or shorter skirts and stuff, yeah?

In case you didn't know, every pair of pants are custom made according to your own measurements. These are comfortable, beautiful, look great on stage or on the street and are fun to wear!

Because I make these one at a time and my designs are becoming more popular, the wait time can be be up to two months. So ordering early will ensure delivery in time for an upcoming gig. If need be, for an added fee, I can do a rush order.

I have two styles available!
Fluffie Rufflie Dance Pants : a form fitting yoga-style, low-rise stretch knit pant with 5 layers of cascading ruffles that start above the knee and fluff down to the floor.
$125.00

Fluffie Rufflie Pantaloons : a loose, comfortable cotton/ woven pantaloon style with 5 layers of ruffles that start above the knee and cascade to the floor.
$150.00

How to get the ball rolling........
I take a deposit of half down through Paypal. You can do this through my e-mail address : kathleen.crowley@yahoo.com
I prefer using this address for correspondence as well - if at all possible!
I do not take checks, credit cards, or money orders.
I then send you a measurement chart that I will need you to fill out and send back to me as soon as you can.
As soon as your order comes up in line, I make your garment. I then figure out tax and postage and send you an invoice for the balance due. When payment has been taken care of, I send you your new Rufflies and you jump up and down for joy!

I often get requests for contrasting colored ruffles and if the fabric is readily available, I will gladly do this for $15.00 extra.

Custom Tribal Bras

Hi all! Ive had many ladies inquire as to where I got my bras that I dance with and if I would make them one. I think Plus - size ladies have the hardest time with finding tribal bras that fit, so Ive decided that if you would like to have a bra that doesnt look like something that simply got bought off the shelf and a few coins and trim put on, but would like a work of art that fits and holds you up near your collarbone intead of your knees.......message me and we'll talk!!!

Im not excluding us smaller busted women here, but Im just aware of how hard it is for the fuller busted woman to find a bra that works for her!

Hi, yup they just arrived, they feel so comfy and they look AMAZING!!!
I am still a bit selfconscious about my hips and white trousers, as my mum always told me: your hips are too big to wear white trousers, but I made this really cool flamenco skirt that can go over it and it looks really nice. I will also just buy a scarf to cover my hips a bit so I don't always have to wear the skirt.

I will post a piccie today on your tribe. Good move on the bit of red lace, it goes really well with my bra and belt!!

Fabric Vortex

Well, I survived the fabric vortex in the NYC garment district! I made some lovely contacts and placed faces with some folks Ive done business with in the past. I found new sources and discarded some old ones.........just love it there and I have lots of new inspiration and friends and a whole new perspective to focus on. A much needed vacation was had and now Im ready to roll again!

I met Zmaya and her daughter at a Sufi retreat in Upstate New York, I met the lovely ladies of Alchemy Performance in Manhattan. That was a fun gig - every one was jumpin up and dancing to Phil Thornton's new music - his new album is coming out soon and yer gonna love it!!!!!!! I heard some amazing music in Central Park - check out Break Of Reality (www.breakofreality.com) - they blew me away!

My batteries are recharged.........back to the drawing board!

The general skills intensive is a 15 hour course, usually taken at the FCBD studio, with Carolena teaching. With only 20 people in Toronto, you will have Carolena and Megha teaching and coaching. You will receive instruction in anatomy as it applies to dance, music theory, instruction in all FCBD steps and concepts, drills, critique and question and answer time.

In order to attend this workshop, you MUST have prior ATS knowledge either via class, workshop or FCBD instructional dvds. This is a must - not an option. Usually a dvd or in-person assessment is required in order to qualify for registration, but this has been waived for this event. Do not disappoint Carolena or Megha - be well prepared with the material. All volumes of FCBD dvds can be purchased through Cleopatra's Bazaar or directly from FCBD.

Once completed, you will receive a General Skills for ATS certificate. It should be noted that completing this certification does not qualify one to be an authorized ATS teacher.

Also included in the registration are gourmet catered vegetarian lunches each day, water and juice for all participants.
