I was reading this thread in the "BD w/o training" tribe
tribes.tribe.net/dancerswi...e0ac8257d3
it's so hard to write about that stuff I didnt' want to get into it, but wondered how prevalent that problem is for dancers - ?
As someone said there's different ways to count - with the music, or by the steps (same w/cymbal strokes).... I try to use both in teaching, wonder how much is going over everyone's heads....

Re: counting problems?
Sat, August 23, 2008 - 4:33 PMthat is the best part about our tribal moves; you can usually tell what count you're on by where you are (not all of them, but you know in the undulation, for example, that 1 is DOWN and 4 is UP). Now, if you have problems catching the beat, that's a slightly different issue :-)
I personally am not so much a counter (I don't hear 1234 in my head all the time), I am more of a contextual person (this happens when the music does *this*), for both dance and choir. -

Sun, August 24, 2008 - 8:14 PMyeah, for the most part, i can't count, i work by rhythm rather than beat. instead of 1234, i hear do da do do da da DUM DUM DUM, and know what to do in relation to that -
