So far, so good. Only thing I have bought was food. I'll be purchasing a month trial gym membership but I consider that part of my health. Yes, I could excercise without but I kinda need the push right now.

Re: Week two- not buying anything new
Wed, June 20, 2007 - 2:13 PMI turned in my credit card points and "bought" a gadget for my camera. Does that count as buying something?!?! It won't be for work so much as art. -

Re: Week two- not buying anything new
Wed, June 20, 2007 - 2:24 PMthose are your points from your card... its not like you forked out cash for something. That was money lost if you didn't do something with it. -

Re: Week two- not buying anything new
Thu, June 21, 2007 - 9:58 AMOK, so the new bike seat was a transportation maintenance purchase, so I'm off the hook for that one.
I bought a bicycle rack trunk bag and handlebar bag. Allow me to explain why:
Last Saturday was the Flying Wheels Summer Century. My friend Sharon and I did the 1/4 century ride, and I was ripping down a hill at the 7 mile marker when I heard this odd *fwap-kerchunk*ing noise and my back wheel locked up solid. I skidded to a stop (like I had a choice?) and surveyed the damage; The bungee strap holding my rain jacket and a banana to my rack had given out and caught up in my cassette and spokes.
A few other people on bikeforums.net have said that they've had similar problems, and that's why they switched over to a rack trunk for carrying commuter items. I took their advice and made the switch. (Found a $60 bag on sale for $20)
On the flip side, 'Nista and I quit smoking (about $300/mo saved), and I've only bought 1 beer in the last 2 weeks (my not drinking is also about a $200/mo savings). -

But, I am tickled pink that you kids have stopped smoking. You will your lungs!

Re: Week two- not buying anything new
Thu, June 21, 2007 - 3:51 PMMeh, the rack/bar bags aren't necessary. I've got a backpack that I currently use to carry most of my stuff, I'm just tired of coming home with uber-sweaty back from riding in the sun wearing a backpack full of stuff.
The smoking thing just kinda happened. We've been talking about it (and actually, I don't have any problems quitting since I only smoke 1 or 2 a day anyhow) and last week 'Nista got sick. Really sick, like stay home from work and lay in bed for a whole week coughing like a plague victim kinda sick. Then I got it, because I'm a nice guy and I spent a lot of time taking care of her. When you feel like that much arse, you really don't smoke at all. So she just didn't start back up. Me neither. -

Thu, June 21, 2007 - 11:30 PMI've got one of those backpacks that pees on you too. Just because it works okay, doesn't mean you didn't need the rack. -

Well, I bought some new towels on Friday. I had been needing them for a while, but put it off because of trying not to spend money and trying to pay down debt. But as I had houseguests, I was actually embarrassed about how threadbare my towels were so I bought some.
I also bought the new Harry Potter book.
This is the first time I've bought anything other than food, gas, shampoo, etc. since this thread was started.

Mon, July 23, 2007 - 5:13 PMYou didn't soak the old bare towels in a bucket and then dried them out into one fresh new towel??? :) -
