Don't miss:
'Exquisitely Beautiful Bollywood' workshop with Akila Iyer,
Wednesday, May 14, 6:30 - 8:45 pm $20
.......
A first in Louisville! 'Exquisitely Beautiful Bollywood' is Akila's beguiling fusion of classical Indian dance technique and high-spirited Bollywood. Belly dancers of many persuasions are becoming interested in Indian dance; its emphasis on eloquent hands and feet provides a good counterbalance to the mid-eastern emphasis on the torso. And Bollywood is just plain fun!

This short workshop will introduce you to both Bharatanatyam and Bollywood, teach you a short choreography, and send you home inspired by Akila's twenty years of devotion to the dance.

Dancers of all genres and skill levels will enjoy this seminar. $20 tuition includes refreshments and a meet-and-greet with Akila after the event. For more information, directions to Ruric's studio, or to pay with PayPal: www.Ruric-Amari.com

Instructor bio: Akila Iyer started her education in Bharathanatyam more than twenty years ago under the tutelage of The Dhananjayans. Their school insists upon a full rounded experience that included practice of yoga and knowledge of the language Sanskrit. Her next guru, Chitra Visweswaran, was another great exponent in the art. In 2001, with the encouragement of Guru Ms.Rekha Balaji of Syracuse, NY who then was moving out of Louisville, she started giving dance lessons. In 2006 the school Guru Vandana Academy was formally registered and firmly took root. Akila says: As always learning is an unfathomable ocean and I venture to further perfect my art through other renowned artists of the day, including K. J. Sarasa in India and Dr. Vasundhara Dorasamy who visits Louisville to oversee my students. Through the years I have refined my techniques of dancing, teaching and choreographing and find them more fulfilling than ever. I consider it my blessed opportunity to be able to contribute in my small way to the purpose of this great ancient dance.
