Hi all,
As the new year is coming closer I got to thinking about my new years resolutions.. dance and otherwise. Here are mine:
General:
- drink more water and tea, less wine and coffee
- eat more regularly, more vegetables, less junk food
- build in some kind of workout into my weekly routine
Dance:
- startup daily stretching routine again
- work on shimmies, posture, arms and hands
- work on a new drum solo, veil dance and a raks sharki routine
- bust out the zills again, or wings, or sword, or poi
- start up a new class in germany
- build some new workshop topics
- try to gain more confidence in teaching
- teach and/or dance in at least 3 new-to-me countries (this one is already in planning, woohoo!)
Yay, I love lists! :-)
What are yours?

Re: New years resolutions?
Mon, December 29, 2008 - 7:54 AMGeneral:
- ditto on the more water and tea and less coffee, wine and beer (*she writes sipping hot coffee*)
- renovate our new house
- renovate our new house
- did I mention renovate our new house?
- lose weight, but that won't be a problem cause I'm renovating a whole house
- more yoga and meditation
Dance:
- use my DVD's more often, since I won't have time/money to take classes and workshops cause I'm renovating...
- zills, zills, zills, zills... (I will have to create a renovation-zills routine!)
- take up the Suhaila technique again and most important: use it consequently, even while renovating
- use all of my workshop notes and videos for drilling and new choreographies
- perform more often, of course I need the money for the renovation
- dancing tout court instead of only renovating
What a list, let's see how much of it became reality in 1 year...

General:
- eat more veggies & fruits
- cut back on sugar
- try to be more positive & self-confident in life
- start doing yoga again
- moving into my new house in september (hopefully)
- be more organised :-)
Dance:
- work on my shimmies & posture
- polish my choreo's
- practice double veil
- create some structure in my practice routines
- try & find more opportunities to perform (already working on that one!)

Re: New years resolutions?
Sun, January 4, 2009 - 8:28 AMOh I've got to be fit til the end of the month when our troupe is supposed to plunge into business. Since I am part time dancer I am more modest in my ambitions, but, yes: this month is:
to bed before midnight, if possible before eleven.
no sugar and coffee (so no hurting belly and minus two kilos).
lots of water and kefir
daily training, no matter what or how long but: no day without!
I so missed dancing! I had family stuff and visitsand not even one single second free for dancing!
Btw I am so curious to hear how your bellydance revolution has worked out!
Happy New Year, Khalida! -

Re: New years resolutions?
Mon, January 5, 2009 - 1:51 AMThese are great! And I agree, it's a good idea to set monthly goals too, those are a bit easier to manage and you can still fit them in to the yearly resolutions..
So far I'm doing pretty good on mine for 2009. I've had no coffee or wine yet since the new year, only tea, fruit juice and water.. but the no coffee will be much more difficult when I go back to work tomorrow. Also: I've been able to do the yoga stretching 2 times a day for the past week and am already feeling more flexible again.
As for the revolution challenge: So far we're on day 56 and I've been practicing almost 2 hours on average a day!
There were 2 days where I did nothing at all (boo) and 5 days that I got in only half an hour of practice, but if I count the total number of hours that I spent on dance, with classes like following ballet or teaching bellydance only counting as half their time, I still have a total of 101 hours up till now. If I counted all dance relate hours in full it would be 137 hours. Yay!
My goal for the next month is to get to an average of at least 2,5 hours of dance-related activity each day and I'd like to build it up in March (after my vacation haha) to 3 hours a day. We'll see how it goes! That would mean less hanging out on the internet for me ;-)
