Here's a thought...

One of the advantages of my job is that it puts me in a meditative state and ideas come to me easily. The problem for me is remembering to write them down or act on them after the hour is over.

Since Mystic's reason for wanting to associate with either NA or AA is to get ourselves on the schedule...how about alternating? One week AA meeting next week NA? We can contact each group and put ourselves down and a bi monthly meeting? Anyway, it's something to think about. Jan 9th is beginning to look a lot like a business meeting (EEEEEEEK!)

I like that idea. For those of us who don't really give a toss, it sidesteps the issue, and for folks who for their own personal reasons do have a strong preference, they can just attend the 2 meetings a month that fit their preference. I almost typed "sexual preference." Cuz, ya know, these meetings would be kinky and bi . . . no wonder I like them already . . .

I personally like the idea if for no other reason just for variety's sake and so we can cater to more needs (there are other reasons too). Howver, there's a part of me that's afraid that someone new to sobriety looking for a meeting may find the switching back and forth kinda confusing. And are we prepared for the possibility having to regularly answer to the whole "singleness in purpose" issue? 'cause I know from going to a few ""multi-purpose" meetings that that point gets brought up CONSTANTLY.

Just a thought. I do like the idea though.

Here's one that comes from way out in left field. Do we need to call it anything or put any label on it at all?
We can always use the 12 steps and principals of AA/NA and conduct a general "recovery" meeting.
We march to our own beat in other areas of your lives...why not here?

Someone had suggested that we try to get onto the AA or NA schedules. In order to do that we have to be either AA or NA, not both (damned philistines) personally i couldn't give a rat's ass one way or the other. i'm just more familiar with the AA format is all.

If nobody cares about being on the schedules then fine.

BTW, is there anybody willing to be a few minutes late to the meeting who can pick me up at work at 6pm? i'll be working in Laurel Heights.

I agree that having one format would be easier for newcomer's to feel comfortable. I also think that having half AA, half NA would mean that some people who are only associated with one might not show up, because they are unsure of the date.

I think a business meeting is a good idea. Perhaps after the regular meeting?

We can only carry the message. Not hold their hand. ;O)

This all needs to be discussed at the meeting. Since i'm not the Secretary (i don't even know there is one) i don't even know the format for the first one but i'm assuming it's AA since the one that was at the Alano Club was AA.

Remeber that this is a "special" meeting. It is for people involved in BDSM or those that aren't going to get squicked by hearing about it. i had newcomers come into the meeting i used to secretary frequently, but i put a disclaimer on the door and made sure to let them know that the topic was going to involved stuff they might not be comfortable with.

Hi, my name is Amy and I'm an alcoholic,

We can only take things one step at a time. Until the first meeting has happened, I don't think anyone really knows what to expect as far as AA/NA schedules or anything else for that matter. I am really excited about this meeting starting up and I really hope I can find a ride from San Jose to be there. I haven't been to a meeting in about a year due to my fears of rejection. And frankly I've been feeling fed up with dealing with people who don't seem to really want the 12 steps of whatever they choose. It's all the same principal and it's simple unless there is no willingness. It is refreshing to hear of 12 steppers who want to make something happen. Hope to see you on the 9th.

Yes, we can really mindfuck this to death if we want to. K.I.S.S. Keep It Simple Stupid. Worry is trying to control the future (at least that's what i tell myself)

Hope to see you Amy, i like your kitten photos (and captions)
