Kitka Seeks Music Director
Founded in 1979, Kitka is a professional women’s vocal ensemble dedicated to producing concerts, recordings, and educational programs that develop new audiences for music rooted in Eastern European vocal traditions. Kitka also strives to expand the boundaries of this music as an expressive art form. Kitka’s mission is accomplished through a San Francisco Bay Area-based home series of concerts and vocal workshops; regional, national, and international touring programs; in-school programs; broadcasts; recording and publication projects; master artist residencies; commissioning programs; community service activities; and adventuresome collaborations.
Kitka is seeking a skilled, energetic and inspiring Music Director with proven ability to provide artistic leadership for a small, dynamic, non-profit arts organization.
This position is open to candidates of all genders, as it is not required that the Music Director also be a singer in the ensemble.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provide musical direction and vocal coaching to the ensemble
Conceive and implement programs for unconducted performances and recordings in collaboration with Executive Director and ensemble singers
Research, select, and develop repertoire; Prepare scores as needed
Create and supervise educational programs
Coordinate artistic and technical aspects of stage presentation
Be responsible for artistic administration (e.g. coordination of auditions, rehearsals, workshops, concerts, recording sessions, preparation of program notes, etc.)
Participate in organizational planning, marketing/PR, fundraising, and board activities as required
QUALIFICATIONS:
Exceptional musicianship and demonstrated past experience leading a performing ensemble
Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills; and an ability to thrive in a collaborative creative environment
Ability to energize and inspire creativity and utmost _expression
Passion for/experience with traditional and contemporary Eastern European vocal music, and familiarity with non- classical vocal techniques
Ease in spoken and written English, eligible for legal employment in the U.S.
TIME COMMITMENT/COMPENSATION: This is a half- time contracted position with a flexible schedule. Salary will be competitive and commensurate with experience.
