Daily program that can be conducted in the early morning hours before one goes out into their day (going forth by day)

Shems is a ancient Egyptian word that means followers and in modern times denotes one who partakes of the culture in an active manner. The term used for the practioners of Kemetic Yoga is Shems n Nebedjer, which means 'Followers of God', or to emulate God through ones physical actions that are guided by virtue and thoughts which are guided by right reason. In this case 'God' signifies the transcendental all encompassing reality that is without name and form but expresses as the lesser divinities which are called Gods and Goddesses which in the Kemetic language are called NETERU.

The correct propitiation of any Neter can lead one to the trascendental reality from which they all emerge from. This process is called SMAI TAWI. Smai Tawi is the ancient Egyptian phrase that means YOGA, which denotes a unification of the higher and lower nature of the human persoanlity. This is also called Heru Smai Set.

The reason why this blog is called Kemetic Mysticism is because these are disciplines that assisst in developing profound levels of inner harmony and peace that are then transformed into God Realization, which is the awakening to, and experience of ones expansive and immortal nature, ones true state of existence. The awakening to ones higher nature is termed NEHAST and is commonly referred to in contemporary times as ENLIGHTENMENT.

This then is the first teaching in the process of Mystic Integration. Mystic Integration means that the personality will develop an internal harmony that transcends the time and space aspect of being into the transcendent reality, the goal of the Egyptian Mysteries. This process is commonly referred to as yoga and the Kemetic term for it is Smai Tawi. The method is Smai Tawi and the aim is to develop a well integrated personality through the study and development of the four aspects of the human personality which are the will, the emotions, the intellect and actions. Therefore, there is a four fold program that can be practiced daily in a harmonious and balanced manner.

The program should start with the reading of scriptures (Intellect), then proceed to the physical postures of the Journey of Ra for 4 to 6 repetitions, after warm up exercises for the large muscles of the legs and lower back, and living by Maat {Righteous and Order} (Action), then proceed to the devotional aspect in the way of chanting words of power (Emotions) and conclude with meditation for 5 to 15 minutes (Will).

This whole series can take from 45 minutes to an hour until one becomes more proficient in all of the areas and the time duration increases. Start slowly and gently refrain from rushing your progress. The end all of this process is the acquisition of wisdom that leads to a penetration of mysteries of life, the mysteries of death, the mysteries of the universe and the attainment of immortality, the ultimate human endeavor and the onlt real and true goal of life.

    THE JOURNEY OF RA

Physical Postures for Health and Well Being:

In ancient Egypt (10,000bce-450ace), a system of medicine was founded on the premise that good physical health contributed to the spiritual evolution of the human person. It was understood that the body is a temple or house for the consciousness, it is the house of the soul and therefore must be taken care of.

The Kemetic term for the physical body is KHAT.

The ancient sages knew that overindulgence in body awareness is also detrimental to the spiritual movement; therefore, there must be moderation in care of the body, moderation in physical postures, moderation in sleeping, moderation in working and moderation in eating. So they developed a system of physical, mental and spiritual exercises that can lead a human person to the ultimate goal of life.

With a moderate, integrative spiritual lifestyle one would eventually develop the capacity to live life with vigor and vitality, enjoying, but becoming detached to the created universe and using the creation as a field by which to evolve the soul. This concept is called ANKH, OODJA, SENEB and is found in the Papyrus of Ani (1570BCE). This papyrus is also called the Egyptian Book of the Dead (78 feet long) and is the current text of study at the Kemetic Tribe.

All human experiences are designed to propel the aspirant upward on the path of the awakening. The Journey of Ra postures replicate the movement of the Sun. From a mythological perspective, it is replicating the movement of the Boat of Ra that traverses the heavens on the back of the Goddess Nut. As long as the boat travels, creation will persist. Once the boat stops, creation will go into dissolution. In the spiritual program, one would start by reading of scriptures, perfrom the postures four to six times, then do a mystical chant session and conclude with meditation. The postures are as follows:

Stand upright have the palms meet in front of the body. Reach for Ra: extend as far back as comfortable. Take Ra to the Underworld. Bend forward taking the fingers to the floor.

Take the left leg back and stretch; look forward. Slide the right leg back making a "V" with your body and be Goddess Nut.

Slide forward bringing the knees to the floor, keep the hips on the floor and arch back only as far as comfortable; and be Goddess Arat. Take the chest to the floor, slide the hands near the shoulders and arch upwards as Goddess Nut once again.

Slide the right leg forward and stretch. Bring the left foot up to meet the right foot, about one foot apart, with the knees slightly bent and feet flat on the floor. Extend the knees and stretch.

Place Ra in his place in the sky. Resume the upright position and breathe deeply and rhythmically.

      Ancient Egyptian Chant Session:

The chant session can be done prior to meditation or at any time one chooses to hold a devotional practice. The practice is called Hekau and the chants themselves are called Heka (magical utterances). The magic being referred to is the clearing effects that repetition of Heka has on the mind.

The repetition of chants should coincide with ones level of tolerance. The idea is to choose a chant that resonates with your deeper feeling and make this your Heka. Or one may go through a series of utterances, in a four fold manner. This means to say the specific chant four times before proceeding to the one that follows. While chanting, especially in the beginning stages it is good to hold ones attention on an image of a deity, either in statue form or a picture. Chants can be started for 15 minutes and gradually build up to an hour. Repetitions are based upon ones level of tolerance.

        Mystic Chants: Amun, Mut, Khonsu
(the trinity of witnessing consciousness, purification and illumination)

In the Asarian Resurrection Myth which can be found in the book, Mysticism of the Har Khebi Sarcophagus, it is told how Asar reigned as King of Egypt and grew in popularity because of his righteousness. Reverence for him abounded in the country. But his brother, who goes by the name of Set, grew jealous and contrived a plan to murder Asar. He succeeded in annihilating Asar by dismembering his body into 14 pieces and throwing them in separate places throughout the land.

The Goddess Aset became sad and suffered great misery when she found what had happened to her dear husband. She then went out to find all of the pieces of his body and was successful in putting him back together. Aset then summoned her immaculate son, Heru, to take on his uncle in battle as a means to vindicate the father.

During his struggle with Set, Heru took up arms of Heart and Will, compassion, resilience, fortitude, knowledge of the self, upon which he was able to finally sublimate the great nemesis, Set.

        Amun, Mut, Khonsu

(The trinity of witnessing consciousness, purified mind and illumination)

        Heru Maakheru
        (Heru is triumphant)

        Om, Amun, Ra, Ptah

(The one Divine Self manifesting as the trinity of Witnessing Consciousness, Mind and Physical Nature)

        Om, Asar, Aset, Heru
(The one Divine Self manifesting as the Trinity of Father, Mother and Child)

The following is a narrative that Aset spoke concerning her task of protecting her son so as to be a spiritual victor:

I am Aset, I escaped from the dwelling wherein my brother Set placed me. Djehuty the Great, the Prince of Truth in heaven and on earth, said to me: "Come O Goddess Aset, it is a good thing to hearken, for he who is guided by another lives. Hide thyself with thy child. And these things shall happen unto him. His body shall grow and flourish, and strength of every kind shall be in him. He shall sit upon his father's throne, he shall vindicate him, and he shall hold the exalted position of Governor of Two Lands.

After reading the above passage close your eyes for five minutes and breath deeply and rhythmically. With your eyes closed, try to see yourself having humility, compassion, concentration and tenacity. Allow these feelings to flow through you as you visualize yourself acting through compassion and humility. Breath slowly, deeply and rhythmically. Slowly open your eyes and begin chanting:

Amma au en Ra, Neb Pet,
        Ankh, Oodja, Seneb
        Ari Neteru
(Grant Praises to Ra, Lord of Heaven,
        Life, Vitality, Health
Creator of the Gods and Goddesses)

        Hati en Kheperu
(My heart is coming into being)

        Dua tu Heru,
        Dua tu Kheru
(the beings of the depths praise thee,
the beings of the heights praise thee)

        Maakheru embah Nebedjer
        (I am triumphant before God)

        Ua Kua

        (I am the Only One)

Nuk Maat, Nuk Maat, Nuk Maat, Nuk Maat
(I am truth, I am truth, I am truth, I am truth)

          Standing as Witness Meditation:

          Aha em Meter Uaa:

The judgment scene is a special meditation that addresses the primary elements of human mind and experience. This technique, called Aha em Meter Uaa, is created for the living entity to gain understanding of the great significance that the physical and mental act has on the human experience.

If actions are controlled and channelized towards righteousness by the profound practice of Maat philosophy (see the book The Cosmic Mind), the pains, hardships and misfortune in life will be greatly attenuated. From a mystical perspective, human beings are not punished for their unrighteous actions, rather, living beings are punished by them in the manner of a cause and effect. Every action that is performed is not lost in the stream of the action, but there is always a ramification, an influx created by an efflux. This is the mystery of life, pain and pleasure. So if one can control ones mental and physical actions, one can control ones experiences in the world.

This is what the meditation technique is designed to do, to lead the mind to a state of clarity that wiln enable you to gain control over the tossing oscillating mind waves. This is a great benefit because it is through the thought action that we create or daily lives, in essence if one can gain control over the mind, one can gain control over ones life. This can be had today with the proper practice of the disciplines.

Maat is the goddess of cosmic regularity and righteousness. Typically she is seen on the scale upon which the heart of the initiate is weighed, either in the form of her emblem, the ostrich feather, or her in a sitting bent knee posture in which she is blind. In this manner it is her cosmic force that either repulses or accepts the soul as it passes through the gates of the astral plane. If the mind has been trained correctly, and if there is proper discernment of what is real from what is unreal, she allows the personality to experience higher planes of consciousness. The practice of Maat philosophy attenuates the negative impressions in the mind and allows the Divine qualities of the personality to shine forth.

Pictured above is Heru, the vindicator of Asar, working the scales of judgment: The initiate (personality) is at the top of the scale. On the left of the scale is a heart shaped vase (mind of personality) being weighed against Goddess Maat (Righteousness) on the right of the scale.

In essence the judgment is ones own conscience as exemplified by the heart shaped vase being weighed against ones capacity for truth speaking (Maakheru). This means to have a personality that holds divine qualities. If the mind has been made pure by righteous actions then the heart will be as light or lighter than the feather of Maat, at which time the initiate will pass the judgment. In the meditative process this translates into being able to emerse into higher and deeper states of consciousness.

          Ancient Kemetic Initiate in meditation

          Meditation Process:

          1) Sit or lay on the back in quiet area.

          2) Read the Standing as Witness Meditation passage above, then gently close your eyes.

          3) Follow the breath into the nostrils and then out for a few minutes.

          4) Release control of the breath

          5) Visualize the pictograph presented in the passage.

          6) Begin chanting Em Aha er ah em meter (Let there not be resistance to me in the judgment) while holding the visualization for as long as comfortable.

          7) Let the chant go, Let the visual go, and concentrate at the area in between the eyebrows for as long as tolerable.
