Have any of you explored medative properties of tying and untying knots? Reading some of the posts here made me remember how when I was younger I used to tie pieces of chording and string into as complicated knotwork as I could and then undoing the lot again. It did a lot to relax me and give me a sense of order in a stressful situation. I eventually bent to my mom's insistances I'd screw up her strings and chord (unfounded, I've never met a knot I couldn't undo), but now am going to see how it can be used as a relaxation/meditation tecnique. Thanks for the reminder, and I'd love to hear from anyone who might know what I'm talking about here.

The Borromean Rings (pic uploaded) looks like a knot, but we no longer have a simple closed curve - we have a group of simple closed curves (three separate loops). This new figure is called a 'link'.

A link is a collection of knots; the individual knots which make up a link are called the 'components' of the link.

An interesting fact about the Borromean Rings: If you remove one of the component loops, the other two loops will no longer be connected!

The physiology and psychology of the person getting tied, the interaction between partners, these are the interesting things once some basics about "wrapping the package" are in hand.
