"So, what is beauty? The same question put in different words is what are you?
What is the nature and structure of you, apart from the biological factor? That is very closely related to what is beauty. When you look at a mountain, snowcapped, deep valleys, blue, deep hills, what do you feel, what's your real response to all that? Aren't you, for a second or for a few minutes, absolutely shocked by it, by the greatness, the immensity of the green valley, the extraordinary light and the blue sky against the snowclad mountains? What happens to you at that moment when you look at that - the grandeur, the majesty of those mountains? What do you feel? Do you, for the moment, or for a few minutes, exist at all? You understand my question?
Please don't agree; look at it very closely. At that moment when you look at something grand, immense, majestic, for a second you don't exist - you've forgotten your worries, your wife and your children, your job, all the messiness of your life. At that moment you are stunned by it. For that second, the grandeur has wiped out all your memory, just for a second, and then you come back. What happens during that second when you are not there?
That is beauty - you understand? - when you are not there. "

Re: What is Beauty?
Tue, September 18, 2007 - 5:30 PMThe answer is "YES!"
Scientificly beauty is semmitry...
I see the beauty of nature as stepping back and seeing the 'Big Picture', realizing just how small we really are and how little all this 'stuff' we do matters ;-)

Re: What is Beauty?
Sat, September 22, 2007 - 3:01 AMThe perception of anything that causes gratification, thus beauty is subjective. Only for some things there is group consensus, however, the perception will also vary on the part of the perceiver in this case as well because of different conceptualisations of what is and is not pleasing to the senses.

Re: What is Beauty?
Sat, September 22, 2007 - 8:04 PMBeauty in this sense is, for me, when i am singing or chanting with others and there is heard, just beyond the actual sound, celestial harmonies. As i listen to this 'beauty' i am lifted, lifted beyond myself. Everything I am sensing moves into this.
(or)
When i am "Sufi Dancing" with others and we are moving harmonically around in the circle, dancing. As we move deeper into the dance i can feel bands of Light form in the circle. These bands of Light are levels of the elementals harmonizing within our own movement in Light. In these moments I can feel the Whole of Being playing in Creation within my awareness.... -

Re: What is Beauty?
Mon, September 24, 2007 - 4:51 PMBeauty is both aesthetics, that which is pleasing to the eye, which may be superficial beauty alone, and a far deeper or more abstract phenomena...beauty is something we see reflected since we do not all find the same things beautiful, but beyond the dominant visual sense, beauty can be heard, felt ,intuited and certainly touched. Beauty is experienced in union, communion, harmony..and transcends the merely physical. Beauty, a word to savour... -

Re: What is Beauty?
Thu, October 25, 2007 - 12:46 AMBeauty is something we can see in more and more people the wiser and more realized we become. How can we find anything not beautiful when we are filled with the bigger picture of __________ (fill in the blank).
magical and miraculous mystic
opportunities for love to reveal more love
intentions of gifting pure mindful inner joy
unify within - beauty unfolds everywhere
into the ever new and shared emergence
of the illuminated radiant heart
awareness of divinity
shines forth in all directions
remembers infinite places
self discovery
the divine reflects itself back to itself
creation is endlessly loving of itself
------------
I remember Ammachi or Mother Theresa and think that there is nobody these women would not find beautiful.
