I don't know of any local stores that have poi on the shelves. The Temple of Poi stocks several different styles. You can contact me if you'd like to come check out what we have.

If you'd like to start building your own (always a great experience and good knowledge to have), you'll find the swivels at sporting goods stores in the fishing section. Most of the rest of the parts are at hardware stores. And it will probably be helfpul to develop some sewing skills as well.

    Have fun!

well, i really try not to spam my own business on tribe, but i make poi and sell them and i'm local! i make furry practice poi. you can look here for examples: pokiedot.etsy.com you can also buy them at the temple of poi studio if you're a student there. also, flowtoys is local, and i'm sure you could email them and meet up. they make great stuff. check them out at www.flowtoys.com

otherwise, for buying stuff, there's a good chain selection at cliff's variety (ball chain in colors!) and they have a few options for swivels as well in their key ring section. i was using fishing swivels for a while, but i'm less impressed with them as time goes on, but if you want those, there's a fishing place on 6th st and howard (or is it mission?).
