Since i was one of the teachers that was cut from the faculty, i will now be doing some vegan baking at lark this year instead of teaching shakuhachi. I wonder if i can get a vegan ice cream stand going in camp 3 on some late evenings.

Moving out of Larkistan?

So after last year, when I played LOTS of music at Camp 2, particularly at the roadhouse, did the Mozart at Camp 1 and nothing at Camp 3, I wonder if it is time to move to Camp 2?
I mean, most of my friends have been at Camp 3 but none of them come to the jazz class, and my meals are at Camp 2, so maybe I need to face the facts and relocate.
Besides, as a New Orleans jazz musician, how can I resist a place to play just for us LOUD bands?

Savory Suggestions - Matthew's Midnight Munchies

As a part of the bakery crew my focus is on savory pastries. I am looking for ideas and suggestions for both finger foods that can be served up at the coffee houses and hot dishes that can be served at midnight Camp III.

Ideally, finger foods should contain no meat and be able to be kept at room(forest) temperature for 24hrs w/o killing anyone.

Of course, big hits like pizza, samosas, foccacia, spanikopita, will be coming back, but I'm alwys looking to try something new...

unoffical Afghan-Persian session, Camp 3 concert of David's new music

I mentioned this (twice, oops) in another thread, but I would like to offer space at my tent "Camp David" for a hosted unoffical Afghan-Persian session, after the classes are over, before and around dinnertime, and before the Greeks get going too much in the tekke (so I can play there too.)
Also, since I've been writing a lot of new Middle Eastern style music, I'd like to try to have a concert of some of my music at the Camp 3 hall. I'll try to get an ensemble of willing musicians and see if I can make it happen.

I just got off the phone with Mickie!!!!

I am so stoked right now.
As you all know, I am the coffee house manager at camp 3, thru the last couple of years, as our little secret of how cool the place actually is got out and more people have shown up, Lark Staff has been trying to provide me with a Camp 3 lark manager.

This position has been really tough to fill!

Finally after a conversation about all kinds of things today, we came up with the perfect lark camp 3 manager!!!!! I think you all are going to love the idea. She's in this tribe but doesn't know yet so......I can't tell who it is until he Mickie talks to her. Oh, I am so excited! It's going to bew perfect!

I am taking on an assistant manager to the coffee house this year. I just have to messege her and see if she will accept.

I am hoping to not be so frazzeled this year and I think these two are the answer! Oh it's gonna be great!!!!!

I'm camping in camp 3, so I have a tent etc. plus the regular baggage. I'm coming from Berkeley. If anyone has any room, or would share a rental car, please drop me a line!

Dear Don Brown's Food Crew

NO ONE!!! THAT MEANS NO ONE! Can arrive at camp before 2:00pm on Thursday, July 26.

There are other camps using the facility up until that time. Lark Camp's contract to use the Woodlands starts at 2:00pm. Do not arrive before that time. Please send a reply to this email to let us know that you received it. You do not have to even make a note in the email. Usually you only respond to Don about kitchen business but we need your reply.

Anyone arriving before 2:00pm will be asked to leave camp and come back and there will be a $100.00 fine that will be donated to the Woodlands.

I am sorry if this sounds harsh but we got in a lot of trouble last year with the camp staff over early arrivals and the camp directors of the the camps leaving were very upset also.

Please also be aware that the other crews with trucks of set up stuff arrive at 2:00 also and should not be impeded.
--
Musically yours,
Mickie Zekley

Today I received word from Mickey that we will have our fiesta Saurday night this year. Stephen and Katarina will come and play at eleven thirty so that at midnight we will have a full party in swing. Since this is a memorial to our beloved departed Chris Carnes this seemed appropriate. he has put it on the official online scedule.

So shake out your flamenca and polish up your red roses.

The ones we have are so beat up after all these years, need good rugs.
And I don't want to leave this search until last minute.

What was your favorite treat from the camp 3 bakery?
I think I want to try to put together a camp 3 bakery cookbook so I don't get stuck like this thru the year.
Only 175 days 'till Lark.

When they opened up all three camps for Lark instead of just Camp One...I hated it all getting so spread out. There was something so lovely about the mashup of the Barrio sitting right next to the bagpipes and the zernas honking behind the step dancers. Oh well...progress.

But then we got into thinking up names for the three now distinctly different flavored camps on the bus one day. My favorites were Dunleaorch (Camp One), Larkabad (Camp Three), Larkville (Camp Two)

Anybody got others?

hi!!!
i had a great time this year. i really enjoyed my students and i think they had a great time too. such amazing musicians and dancers, liz is and kristina were AWESOME, and it was great to hang with them, albeit it briefly. i hope they both come back next year.

on the last day of classes sami recorded a bunch of podcasts, the first started in the greek tent.

i thought the larkistaner's might want to listen to them as they are pretty funny, and show the diverse musicality and talent located in camp 3. plus, if you are jonsing for next year already, this might be a temporary fix!

you don't need a ipod to listen. you can either go to sami's blog page (and click on the first link):
http://shumays.libsyn.com

or subscribe

if you have itunes, you can subscribe. each new episode will be downloaded into itunes as soon he posts them...
just open itunes, click on the link that says "podcasts" and search in the directory for "sami shumays" or personal performances" and click on subscribe...

have fun! :D

I will be in camp 3, hanging flowers from the overhead beams, aranging pillows and making turkish coffee. I know the time at lark will pass quickly, I plan on cherishing every moment. (Please remind me of that when I am stomping around and using the term "you people" ;-)
Every year while setting up the grand coffee house, I think of the man who inspired Don to turn camp 3 into the coziest, warmest, most magical little coffee house ever.............I wish so much that I could have him back.
I am so greatful for the time we had together, especially at Lark. That was when he would play for me. Quietly, in the late hours. After we had finished our brown cows of coarse.

Dear Lark Campers
The evening dance schedule and the workshop schedule are complete. You can check out the schedules at:
http://www.larkcamp.com/larkcampworkshops.html

This is regarding the Lark Camp 2006 workshop schedule. There is no doubt that changes will be made and additions/deletion to this schedule on an ongoing basis even as late as during camp. Keep checking back

We encourage all Lark Campers to share their knowledge by offering a workshop. If you wish to teach a daily workshop, please look at the schedule, find an opening and email us about what, where and when you want to teach and we will consider putting it on the schedule. We work on these additions after May 15, 2006. One time workshops will not be posted on this schedule. You can post them at Camp.

Thank you all for your good will and wonderful music and dancing. We are looking forward to seeing you this summer.

Thank you all for being a part of Lark Camp.
--

Musically yours,
Mickie Zekley

I had a thought last night that we should all pull together to make it just a bit more cozier...
I am not even sure that I will be there this summer or not....

but......

Like a little sheesha cafe....
some little tables with nice places to sit, and some sheesha to smoke and pillows to kick it on...

Here is a chance to go stay at the Woodlands (where Lark Camp is held) and volunteer to do some special projects to help prepare the Woodlands for the summer season. A great chance to meet folks, be in the woods and help the Woodlands. Here is the information.

PCD Council of Camps & Conferences Presents:
the Woodlands staff. We welcome people of all ages and abilities to
participate.

The remainder of the weekend may be spent visiting with new and old
friends in the beautiful redwood forest, hiking, or sunbathing at Lillie's
river beach. We'll have activities and childcare for those too young to
electricity or heat in the cabins. Bathrooms with electricity are located
near the cabins.
A light supper awaits you after your drive on Friday evening. Enjoy a hot
breakfast early Saturday morning and pack a sack lunch on your way to join
your work party. There is a big feast Saturday night and a goodbye brunch
