From their website:
Newfangled Wasteland is fast becoming the most talked about "supergroup" project in San Francisco. This all star line up was founded by guitarist Chris Haugen (Jambay, Melvin Seals), and features keyboardist Trevor Garrod (Tea Leaf Green), bassist Steve Adams (ALO, Big Light) and drummer Dave Brogan (ALO). Using the prolific span of Beck tunes as a point of departure, Newfangled Wasteland explores and stretches the material, and builds upon Beck's familiar hooks and grooves to create a fresh and original sound. Just clap your hands.

Now that we've locked in our line-up, although you never know with us, the schedule has been finalized and will be announced early next week!

Hey folks!

We're looking for some amazing, dedicated street teamers to get the word out about this year's Las Tortugas Dance of the Dead! This year's line-up is incredible and the festival is guaranteed to be the best yet. If you haven't seen what's in store check it out here:
http://evergreenhalloween.inticketing.com/

We're hoping to find folks willing to hang up posters and pass out fliers in key downtown areas and at shows and festivals (specifically in CA and CO), and we especially need people going to non-Bay Area festivals, like Earthdance and Meltdown.

For street-teaming you can receive a discounted ticket ($100) to Las Tortugas, with possible bonuses for all-stars.

There are a limited number of street-team spots available, so get back to me ASAP if you're interested! Send an email to kestrel@blueturtleseduction.com, and please respond with the following information:

1. Full name
2. Email address
3. Phone #
4. Street address
5. Where you'll be able to street-team (cities, colleges, festivals, shows- be specific!)

Looking forward to hearing from you!

Phish at the Coachella site for Halloween for 3 nights. I think actually, this is just what Tortugas needs to balance it all out. And Im guessing what Tortugas has in store will be awesome and a great balance to Phish.

But, I think its time to start rolling on it since theres so much talk of Phish Halloween in Indio, it would be nice to have the Tortugas back up to go along with the conversations. Can we get a speculation date or something that we can announce for people to chew on out there?

Rain poured so hard for the first three days, that by Sunday I was hallucinating raindrops all day and night.
The winter season is here, have at it! Said mother nature as we celebrated one last musical freak out in nature until next Spring. It was sooooooooooooooo hot and dry for MONTHS leading up to Tortugas.....al the fires of summer, choking on smoke, barely riding bikes on a sand dune playa, wham bam oh shit ma'am, its wet cold harvest FROSTy relentless on the tiny boulevards of Evergreen Lodge Festy Town. Hunker down, paint your face, let your make up run for the hills, mosh in a puddle and lets CELEBRATE!! The shock of the rain watered down with tequila and love and smiles and most of all, top titties rock and frickin roll MUSIC...........

Was it a dream? Was my favorite band really playing all 4 nights? Were my friends really putting this all on? Have I really been a part of something this amazing the last 5 years? Did Blue Turtle REALLY play 4 amazing sets of music? Are all these other bands and artists on the line up REALLY this GREAT? Are these smiles for real......do I really have this many friends? Is the love in my heart respected so tenderly by this crew of FREAKS? Driving home in a downpour barely seeing in the dark on monday, I knew the answer to all these questions was a big fat YES, except for the DREAM part! hahaha!!! LIVIN IT!

Bee back with more musical reviews and highlights~~ VIVA TORTUGAS and LONG MAY YOU LOSE YOUR TORTILLAS!!

I had so much fun with this dork almost every night of the fest. He was dressed as Slash the first nights and a jehovah witness on Sat. night. Hes tall w/braces and about age 28? He lives in Berkeley and works at a garden. Tried to get contact info but we were always having too much fun dancing. Meeting cool people is always a treat, but Im a sucker for longer lasting friendships. Please help if you can! He was hanging around someone who knows a lot of folk in this community but I forgot his name. I know him though. He had glasses and a beard and was wearing a cape. They were at LOUD CAMP for a bit on Sat. Thanks, Tort Hedz for the help!

-	Please respect the no smoking/incense/candle rule in cabins or plan to pay a hefty cleaning fee. We recommend shutting deck doors to avoid smoke from drifting in and educate your guests so they don’t screw it up for you.
-	Plan ahead for your cabin decorations and avoid tacks and pins and tape on paint.
-	Campers arriving at night should be patient as you find a spot and unload. It is a big property with plenty of space for all. Bring a good flashlight and welcome your new neighbors!
-	All guests should be BEAR SAFE. Do not leave coolers on decks, next to tents, etc..All food/coolers should be secured.

That is it for now. We are counting the days……
Sincerely, BTS & Evergreen Lodge

hi POSSE...this is from the owner of the Lodge regarding camping. Btw, i am told there are just a few onsite reserved camp slots left, so please call the Lodge if you want one, 209 379 2606. Custom camping (where they provide gear) is now only available for Sunday night, as custom camping for the other nights is sold out...here is that info:

On-site Evergreen camping:
BYO gear camping is dispersed around the property in various open spaces as well as ‘nooks and crannies’ and is limited to about 100 people. There are also reserved sites in the main campground for those who reserved custom camping. All on-site guests have access to the campground bathhouse and showers. Campers are not parked next to their cars but the cars are not far-away. On-site campers and cabin guests are encouraged to carpool as parking in general is limited and each tent and cabin will be limited to a maximum of 2 cars on-site. Food must be stored in bear boxes or in cars. On-site campers will have special wristbands and tags for their tents. No RV’s on-site or sleeping in vehicles, no exceptions. Once camping is sold-out, no more spots will be available so your friends will need to camp off-site.

Off-site Tent & RV camping:
Free tent camping in the national forest is as close as 150 yards from the lodge. There is no camping allowed on the sides of Evergreen Road, you need to pull onto fire roads. The main fire road closest to the lodge is on your right (road 1s32) about 200 yards before the lodge and there are groves of trees, meadows and pullouts along this 2 mile long road. Other fire roads can be found all along Evergreen Road for more private, secluded, and quiet camping. You need to abide by national forest rules, have a fire permit to have a campfire, leave the forest spotless, protect your food and respect nature and other campers. Bring a bike. RV campers can camp on fire roads as well.

Off-site parking:
Cars must be completely off of Evergreen Road. There will be NO parking allowed on the north side (same side as the lodge) of Evergreen Road within a few hundred yards of the lodge (this will be signed).

On-site Parking:
Parking is limited so please park efficiently. There will be a two car limit for each cabin. Carpooling is highly encouraged. No RV parking on-site and no car-camping. Once parking is full on-site, cars will need to park off property on Evergreen Road below the lodge. Please be careful parking on-site when parking off of the main roads or main parking lots. There are plenty of ‘tweener’ spots, just watch out for lodge materials/lights/etc..

We've confirmed another 2-night run in Sacramento on August 15th and 16th. For those of you that have been around a 2-night Izabella run then you know the craziness that will go down. For those of you that don't it's the biggest little secret. Sacramento has a really good scene and community that surrounds Izabella and we are excited to provide a great weekend of music. Look for our new stage design to be debuted at this festive event!

A summer night on Vashon Island proved that the community IS smaller than we all think. After loading in we starting talking with the other act on the bill and it turned out Lucas Carlton had performed with a couple of these guys in High School. As discussion continued we realized that the bass player from the band was dating Sean Lehe's cousin. The night with Damon Castillo Band (www.myspace.com/damoncastillo) not only blew our minds, but also knocked us off our feet! These guys are hot and will be a lovely start to the weekend so make sure you come out at 9pm sharp to check this solid unit out.

Saturday is when things get loose and the party explodes. Our great friends 5 Eyed Hand (www.fiveeyedhand.com) will ignite the fire with their playful artistry and impressive musical backgrounds. This summer has introduced 5 Eyed Hand and Izabella to the festival circuit and we're extremely excited to have these guys joining us in our hometown. Saturday is not to be missed so make sure you get drinks early and make it out to catch this Santa Cruz based quartet.

We're looking forward to an incredible weekend of music and celebration of life so join us for the weekend and check out some talented folks from Sacramento to San Luis Obispo. There will be horns present on Friday and a violin in the house on Saturday so look for some cross pollination. Get your $15 two-night pass early cause the place will get packed!

See you soon

Going from a hotel to a music fest is not our normal routine but with a little experience under our belts, we will definitely improve for next year.

I went to Las Tortugas II. It was a last minute decision for me, but I am glad I went. About 1000 peeps at the peak on Saturday night. Lots of costumes all 4 nights, the bands got into it too, dressing up differently each set.

New finds for me: Tracorum from SF, a four piece band with guitar, drums, keys and a bass player from Amsterdam that made my jaw drop. He was kind of a cross between Les Claypool, Phil Lesh and Kai Eckhardt if you can imagine that! He turned a lot of heads.

Another discovery was Buffalo Strange from Tampa, a fun hippie, tribal Deadish jam band. I also enjoyed Greensky Bluegrass and their interesting bluegrass covers of Pink Floyd, and Springsteen to name a few.

I arrived late Thursday in time to see ALO throw down 2 long sets and play until 5am! Every night was like that! The headliners delivered. I also enjoyed Guitarmeggedon with Lebo, Clark, and Leahy. A rare stage appearance by Jenna Lebo on background vocals!

NM played two sets on Saturday late night in costume and the next night they followed a wonderfully fun set by the JGB. The new drummer Sean Hutchinson is someone you should all check out. Only 22 years old and a monster on the drums, he even plays tablas and congas too. They are much harder rocking band these days.

TLG was very popular and played very LOUD sets on Friday and Saturday. Izabella was great, they have really evolved into a versatile band: soulful covers and originals, Deadesque jams and everything between. Stu Allen of the JGB sat in Sunday night on Iko and Jeff Miller on Don’t Bring Me Down. Lots of sit-ins all weekend. Monophonics delivered the funky horn sound which was a welcome change of pace; they remind me of Vinyl.

BTS were the hosts of the festival and I think they played every day. The loyal Turtle heads were out in force.

This was a very intimate festival, kinda like HSMF only way smaller. Everyone attending was cool and no hassles. Most did dress sup at least one night and I made some new friends. The only complaint I might have is about the food being overpriced and not so great.

I was psyched to learn they had satellite TV in the bar so I was able to see most of the World Series. Yeah Sox!

Some of my pics will run on Jambase probably today and then I will post a gallery once I catch up on “real” work.
SD and his relentless energy, Thaddeus always making sure things were going off on time, Hafty for constant attention to the artists, Tistrya for both all the behind the scenes work and in front of the microphone artistry! And to Howie for his wonderful spirit, Jenna, Claire, Kestrel, and all who helped with ambiance and decorations...this type of thing doesn't come off this great without a lot of work from a lot of people...Here's to them!
