Yeah so, I hear I can ask hair questions on this tribe huh? I have a hair conundrum...oh and I can't spell either. Anyway, back in my younger years...you know like teenage and a little after, I had no problem curling my hair. All I would have to do is throw in some sponge rollers over night and BOOM curly curlies to last as long as I wanted until I washed my hair. So for the past few years, I've just been focusing on keeping my hair sleek and curled under. No fancy curls attempted in quite a while. So a couple months back I thought I'd curl my hair just for kicks. It won't curl! By now I've tried different methods, including all of the old ones I used to do back when my hair did what I told it to. I asked my hair stylest to curl it at my last visit. It took her four hours (and three different method attempts) before it finally curled! She ended up having to just take a peice of hair, drench it in mouse, curl with the curling iron, and hold and spray. It took forever! I don't understand why it's doing this. I've never bleached my hair, but I do die it black from time to time. I've never permed it. I've never really done anything different to it that I haven't done my whole life. Why do you think this is going on? And does anyone have any sure fire methods for some awesome curly locks? I don't want them permanently curly, I just want to be able to do the curly do every now and then. Thanks for reading this whole thing!

Re: My locks won't lock!
Wed, January 30, 2008 - 7:56 PMDarlina (love name, by the way), have you tried a 1 to 1 1/2 inch flat iron? My dad was mixed ehtnicities and my mom is black, so my hair is natrually corkscrew curls. I never attenpt anything myself anymore other than air-drying, pinning and ponytails because I've found that my hairdresser and her bag o tricks works better. You may need to visit someone who is used to dressing asian or black girls' hair. It sounds like you either just grew into a different texture of hair (it can happen naturally, at any age), or you supper-infused the cuticle of the hair with colour and it is fattened up and heavy--perhaps. Anywho...the ceramic or ionic flat irons (used with a flip of the wrist to make curls) will probably work best for you. Have a hairdresser try it on you a few times before you invest in one.
Oh, and keep your locks healthy, trimmed of split ends, and moisturized at all times, but not weighed down with real heavy conditioners. Perhaps a deep conditioner left in overnight then washed out in the morning, that way the hair shaft is light but still moisturized.
Good Luck, Lovely :-)
