COMMONALITY AMONGST THE WORLD'S MYSTICS:
If you study the life of past mystics you'll find they share several things in common:
First, they all speak of an induction – or of a need to learn/realize a new level of understanding. They all speak of a fundamental shift in consciousness (be it called awakening, realization, divination, or being born again).
Second they all tell of making a journey into and through a despair process of being “undone” as the precursor to this fundamental shift in consciousness -- be it through experiencing 40 days and nights in the wilderness, starving under the boddhi tree, facing the dark night of the soul, or the hero’s journey. There is a Journey of metamorphosis that all mystics have undergone in some way.
Third, it is an inner journey that must be taken up and navigated alone. This is a hallmark of the mystic’s realization: The reason the journey must be alone is because that which must be faced, seen, and surrendered in order that something new can emerge, is only possible through sustaining the fear and despair process of being alone and meeting the ultimate and fundamental fear of “non-being” and annihilation.
Fourth, they all seem to realize the frustration of being misunderstood by those who have not yet been through the awakening journey -- “those who have ears to hear, let him hear.” A great deal of the mystical writings are devoted almost exclusively to the fact that fundamental spiritual truth cannot be understood by the intellect nor correctly put into words. Forever, the great spiritual teachers have tried through the insufficiency of words to point toward that which can ever and only be experienced and known on a level that is before and beyond the mind. This is something unfathomable to those who have not yet had this breakthrough revelation - and particularly so in our contemporary culture that has become so overly reliant and blinded by the limiting paradigm of the scientific method that forever reduces our understanding of intelligence to that which is sensory, measurable and linear in nature. (...Life isn't (only or always) linear .. In fact it rarely is, except in man-made constructions and habituated uses of the mind.)

There are many of us out there but today most of us probably do not think of ourselves as mystics, though we may view ourselves as different from most people and find it hard to fit in. The path you speak of is a Universal one, Indigeneous tribes often use the medicine path or following the great mystery., but there are so many ways to travel along this road. The steps you speak of I believe are clearly recognized by myself and many many others who have traveled this path, but ultimately, particularly in fact at this time, we are only the wayshowers for all to make the journey into the Great mystery. It is time for everyone to be lifted into this consciousness, some of us just have more awareness about this at this time than others, but all are moving at their own pace.
I believe that that is the way of the New Earth we are moving towards, a time of great peace and joy and creativity-it is what we all seek in the process of growth and learning along this way to the Divine, and the ultimate knowledge I have of this is that we will discover what deep in a part of us we always knew- we are One and we reside in the Heart of the One.
It is truly my belief and my hope that for those who now embark upon this parh feeling the deep call and yearning in their heart for something more, something more Real( than what the rest of the world thinks is real and truly isn't,) they will not have to be in a place of suffering and despair in order to grow and learn and to discover their true light, divine mission and their place in the Cosmos.
In my experience I have had more than one"dark night of the soul" each with its own lessons and revelations, but you are correct in saying that it has been a very lone journey.
but I feel that what the new energies coming in for us now from "the Great Mystery- from Source, are much more gentle and peaceful and it has been in my visions and guidance of late that as mystics we do not have to learn in the old ways of pain and struggle- this is an old paradigm. It is true that we must be dedicated, that we must go inward for the answers and no one can do it for us, but I believe that it is the responsibility of those of us who have gone through it to assist in holding out a hand to those behind us and as they ask, giving them information at a level they can understand to learn with love and joy this time. Also as we bring our light forward, as we do earthwork and planetary work and healing and meditate and envision, and in healing that we do of ourselves, we actually contribute to the raising of consciousness of everyone, so it is important to keep learning and growing and contributing. the difference now though is that aside from our inward work that we do alone, we must also find our communities because more light, more healing, more building of this beautiful new world which Us "mystics' may have actually seen in visions and in dreams can be accomplished together and that is the weaving that is happening at this time even here as you ask this question, bringing all together to raise us up into the true Light of the One.
many blessings,
