Salon Libertasmoderated - created 11/11/05 |
|
My own background is that of a disaffected libertarian; it was Ayn Rand's individualist philosophy that sparked my first intellectual flame. Unfortunately, both letters and life have since left me disenchanted with today's libertarian world; I have come to the conclusion that libertarian theory as it exists today encourages rose-glasses blindness to social injustice and has taken Puritanical posion with its portion of political economy. As I do not reject the principle of individual rights, and for my own choice of company retain respect for critical, intellectual, libertarian culture, I founded this salon as a space where antistatism and cultural dissent may coincide. I am happy to host Salon Liberty for anyone who values legal individualism and strains also against the world's 'mind-forged manacles' that create intolerance even among those pledged to the defense of rights.
I strive to keep this Salon as an open space for those who are by chance, choice, or curse nonconformists, and welcome artists and musicians, alternative cultures and spiritualities, youth, gays and lesbians, women of the cloth, and those whose lives may be mostly on the edge. I welcome Randians, libertarians, feminists, anarchists, progressives and others- those whose sense of life cannot abide the laying aside of either mind or passion.
For my own privacy, entrance to the salon is regretfully moderated. Please write a short note explaining your interests and perspectives to request an invitation.
