UK Hoop Database

Hi everyone,
To my knowledge, there isn't anything such as a UK database of hoop instructors and performers, and a friend of mine recently got in touch to ask how he could find a hooping instructor to teach at his gym... It got me thinking, because there was no real easy answer, apart from search engines and telling him to post on Tribe! I thought it would be a good idea to have some kind of "central" database that people could search for, so I have started to put one together...

If UK hoopers think it will be useful, I'm happy to get it a proper domain name but for the moment it is located at:

www.ukhd.leapintohoops.co.uk

I think it would be a great way to promote hooping and definitely to promote our skills to people looking for hooping (and hopefully get more work!), as it becomes more popular. I've tried to add a couple of people that I already know of but I would love to add as many people as possible. PLEASE send me your details if you are a hoop teacher or performer via the website!

If you have any suggestions (e.g. adding a links page for things like regional Tribe forums), please get in touch via the website also.

I just want to hoop

Hello,

Sonia, is there any chance you would be able to do Hoop dance classes in Lincoln? I bought my first adult hoop from you over a year ago. I've been hooping on and off on my own since then. I've picked up a few moves from watching videos and meeting some people at Play festival and this year i went to the European Juggling convention where I met a couple of hoopers. I have one friend who also loves to hoop, but sadly she lives in Harrogate, where she very luckily has hoop dance classes. I've been looking everywhere to find hoop classes around this area and there are none, apart from hoop fitness classes which i have started but it really isn't as enjoyable as hoop dance. And I am all to aware that winter is not far away and again i'll have nowhere to hoop. I just want to be able to hoop and enjoy hooping with others!
Lifts from the Waist / "Beam Me Up" / "Float Up/Down"

Lifts from the waists have many variations and use a few different names. A basic lift from the waist is just what it says on the tin. Hoop Girl licensed trainers will use the term Float Up and Float Down.

Caroleena has an excellent tutorial on lifting from the waist and how to make the lift up/lift down in to a continuous move fondly called by hoopers, 'Beam Me Up'!

Just a thought... does anybody fancy joining in the Cleethorpes Carnival this year? Its at the end of July and would require us getting together and organising ourselves in some kind of fashion!

Any takers?

Some Introductory Videos

As there are SO many videos on hooping, this thread will be an easy way to introduce you to some stellar examples of hooping- saving you the time of trawling through youTube or the Hooping Videos tribe.

You may want to start an individual topic to discuss a specific move or comment on someone's performance. Please do! The Hooping Videos tribe can become HUGE with discussion so this is a way of keeping it relevant and specific!

Belly Dancing & Hooping

This follows a request from the lovely belly dancing Sylvia! Here are some examples of people combining Belly Dance with Hooping. I will continue to add links as I find them.

It appears to be that it is Tribal belly dancers that combine hooping with their routine.

Enjoy!

Since your induction in to the world of hooping, several of the people I have met along the way would like to know more! As it can be difficult to keep a track on all the individual conversation threads through email I would like to encourage you to use tribe.net as a way of communicating. This way you can meet other hoopers and share ideas, conversations and videos/links on the web.

You will see that along the left hand side of the screen there are other hooping tribes and I recommend that you join these also.

Some tribes of note are:
