Life is always summer
there,
where birds fly
ever decreasingly
in smaller circles,
only then to
fundamentally...

The old happy trapdoor drawers:
woolen, moth eaten and musty;
stuffed away and forgotten --
I remember, I do.

It was a disorienting corner
to find himself upon.
He couldn't tell the headlights
from the reflections in the water.
A few muddy Target bags
bobbled toward his tired feet.
He winced.
He looked toward the headlights again.
So tired.
No one knew:

Stinky stagnant water,
water beetles skimming the surface,
green muck...

All right, all right -- I"m just gonna give yah this one straight up -- here's yer writing prompt:

"The magician's underwear has just been found in a cardboard briefcase in a stagnant pond on the outskirts of Miami."

Those blessed few of you who actually *know* where I ganked that sentence from have the option of using the source as additional inspiration or not -- hotse of you who *don't* recognize it may or may not be at a creative advantage.

I'll come up with a deadline later -- have fun yawl [grin]...

I got a tickler to enter the Margaret Reid Poetry Contest for Traditional Verse from www.winningwriters.com. The rules state ...

"... poems you submit should follow some kind of formal or informal pattern. This pattern might involve rhyme, meter, length of line, repetition, or some other pattern, strict or loose"

Sounds like that includes us.

I'm entering #46.

This was a man who could dance a lick
Then carry a tune,
But drinks a bit;
Worn out clothes
Cuffed down shoes,
Still talkin’ the blues
his voice hasn't gone
No dog by his side
It got old then
Up, n’died
And the song carried on

Back when my belly dominated my manly physique,
I told you a thing or two you oughta already known
Don't look at me like that! I resented having to yell,
you should have known better!
Wish you'd wear the stinkin' hearin' aid

Just as he pulled out his pocket watch,
the story took an intriguing turn
Dandy curmudgeons argue familiar issues,
their points worn smooth by time.

Dapper Dans playin' Dixie Land
Games of checkers and Big Bands
Top hat and tails, suit and tie.
Petticoats and hair pulled high.
Talkies and a motor car.
Radios, speakeasy bars.

Vaudeville never died
it just got so bloated
that when it fell backwards
into the orchestra pit

It floated
Dancing, dancing, dancing.

chilled is the pillow rested upon
dreams sweet may they be
thus 49,
then to be, or maybe
...not

Just turning
Over zealous
Crispy cheese crackles
As it spins
Ouching the tides
Firecracker kernels
Dreaming and spinning
Romance taffeta
Undead fans of the snack
The avocado moon fixed on me
With its zombie gaze

Bells, bells, bells
I feel bells in my shoes
Keith Moon (the bastard)
Didn't have it as good as you

The avocado-stained death grip
Holds me now

My heart rings
Like a bell of iniquity
Mooning the moon
My soul sings out to thee

The popcorn pattern on my face
Betrays the love I feel
In the wonderland
Of your fingers and toes

Like little avocado smiles
You move me
Like a zombie after brains
I strain to reach your heart
Sweetly sinking
Into your smooth green flesh
Beneath a popcorn moon
Awaiting your clink clank chime
To bring this sorry story
To an end

Under a midnight sky
The avocado trees grow
Zombies stir among them
Pacing to and fro
A church bell warns
Of the living's foe
Shrouded in gray
A pale moon glows

like a bell of iniquity
like a zombie after brains
like little avocado smiles
mooning the moon
my heart rings
my soul sings out to thee
of my boom-stick
of your fingers and toes
plaguing my dreams
reminding me of
Sun Myung Moon

the popcorn pattern on my face
proves you move me

sweetly sinking
into your smooth green flesh
beneath a popcorn moon
awaiting your clink clank chime
to bring this sorry story
to an end

under a midnight sky
the avocado trees grow
zombies stir among them
pacing to and fro
a church bell warns
of the living's foe
shrouded in gray
a pale moon glows

[Some of yawl may find out to be careful what you wish fer...]

(NOTE: This idea is actually inspired by an essay assignment I had to do to get accepted into the Honors Program at Bowling Green.)

Your mission -- should you decide to accept it -- is to write lines that involve any one or more of the following six words:

avocado
bell
moon
popcorn
Wonderland
zombie

You can use yer word(s), write *about* yer word(s) without actually using it/them, use the word(s) as an acrostic -- it's all yer choice.

And if yer an overachiever, by all means, use ALL SIX!!!

(And may G-d have mercy on yer immortal souls [grin]...)

[Deadline yet to be determined -- suggestions always welcome...]

retrospective analogous request
waltzing through dusty memories,
finding lost feather boas and
sparkling stains
salient drips of thought
Irish bogs, peat moss
mists, frosts and heavy dew
dreams of this and
then, always you
coalesce grave reminders
with the commendable attributes
of fiction

a day for mothers
with my only child so unavailable
December's cold hand holds you close
transient, alone and furvious
compact florescent still incandescent
at one hour before the dawn
love, its raging tempest tossed
a blur, my mind, nearly lost
that spark, exquisitely bright, so near
secretly longing, impossible barriers
silently wishing you fare thee well

Just to make my inaugural go-round as editor as painless as possible fer moi:

No theme. Whatever lines you think will float yer boat, sail yer plane, or power yer Prius.

Ready?

Set?

GO!!!

Remember, PM me your lines with LBL 46 as the email subject.

Unless I get possessed by the Ghost of Teaching Assistants Past [you may make prop bets on the side if you like], I'll assemble the lines as received and in the order received.

I'll also announce a cutoff date fer submissions fer this round sometime in the next month (or when the total lines received begin to resemble a modern adaptation of an ancient verse play in five acts, whichever comes first, of course, of course [grin]...)

just when you thought you were done
the rounds been spun
something comes full circle
the song hasn't quite been sung

i turn my face to the wind
and a deep breath,
for the wind i drink is tomorrow
and, at my back
the dust of yesterday

associational kisser Confucius canny

orange arachnophobia pinstripes
fetal pig storm

save transport of funds

burgundy ship-to-shore carpool lanes

elephant's trunk captured
and the tribe explodes

desperate as fire licking the dry tendrils of crooked knots
burned the desire of her ravenous, blistering longing

bacon dreams a green ivory bicycle
massive intransigence scanned the knife
and the hippos were boiled in their tanks

my chest didn't explode

This poem was created by your lines in the order I received them, with very minimal editing. (I only dropped a few cap's and removed a period.)

:: Seeking new moderator for this tribe ::

I would like to pass on the duties of moderating this tribe, because my interest in random poetry has waned. Also, my own writing is taking up more of my time, so I feel the need to drop some extraneous activities and cut down on my Tribe time. I have enjoyed making poems with you, and I hope to see the tribe continue.

If anyone is interested in being the new mod, please write me a PM soon. All you would do is collect the lines (as PMs in your inbox), then put them together into a poem. The lines can be left as is or put together with your own editing. Editing should be minimal, to keep to the tribe's theme of serendipity.

I will close down the tribe if no one comes forward to become the new moderator.

Thank you all for your contributions to this tribe.

Footsteps mar the crisp white silica
hitherto unsullied by mark or detritus,
tides of time have purified this space
but here, a heart drawn, shaped neat
sharp in relief, but etched broken
and there, a line, cut deep
metaphor, for where none may pass
all this lies alone,
waits, in solitary vanity, upon the neap.
To hell with love, I say to myself.
With a pocketful of rice
and a bellyful of champagne,
I scamper up one side of the wedding cake
and slide back down the icing
for my greatest escape…

Orangutans eat orange jello.
one hot gem -- eh! to gnome
the gem ego on the moon,
a glass of shards and shadows made.

Rooted on his back, reaching for the air,
reveling in moisture,
he sat on the bus, his usual 5-34
facing the back,
arms lightly crossed, and feet
firmly placed on the softly vibrating floor
his paper lay across his lap,
folded ,as befits a broadsheet
he always sat facing the back
as he felt only the insecure would want
to know where they were going.

Those tears would wet my soul
and stain this heart with their grief,
for I let summer love
to an autumn dry
and blow as dust to winter,
for all those times when being alone
means existing orange-ly in no one else's
color scheme.

Warm wind blowing, tickling me,
sweeping up my scent and on to you;
the sense of smell remembers
my love I know to be Autumn
long tresses of gold,
eyes, blue of the clear crisp day
her walk, the lightness of fall
that she brings the solitary winter
I mind not,
for this is my season
red gold Autumn, my all.

bittersweet
on a wall , graffiti in a careworn hand
faded, though readable, wanted,
a heart to love, mine forsaken?
that I felt deeply for this wounded soul
so I wept for loneliness
then for memory,
for the hand
was mine
daydreams
from this chair
the world swims slowly past,
the vision splendid
under glass
3 windows 6mm toughened ,
slightly tinted
gives dreams of day , crystal clarity
and with probity
decay

dawn’s cold early light
brings its owned dark breeze
summers fading leaves twist
as the cold breath hurries past,
a last pear hangs lonely
what once was golden ripe
now a sullen yellow tinged with brown
wormed and bruised ,
humus for the winter frost

The eye said, "the storm is settling all around me,
life falling into place. It's nature's way
to be dramatically abrupt, then blend for an hour,
three days, a month, than let it go.
The pieces of a life fall as they will,
people scrambling, growing, joyous,
retreating, embracing, crying,
reconnecting, changed."

wind blows
colder than summer's demise
unstable radioactive molecules
fall asleep in midday
bikes race in a circular track
scorpions are
blown into the wind
and become frogs
blown south,
spring and fall join,
death brings rebirth,
inspiration leads home....

Leaving the farmer's market
with squash, shiitakes, and a pomegranate,
hearing fallen leaves crunch
beneath my feet.
The harvest in, fall holidays gone, winter on its way
offering comfort for a year well done—
rest, relax, be warm, stay steady,
tis a time for reflection.

All roads lead to Rome but some
had their good intentions paved
over with 99.44% pure gold.
I have a black belt in unrequited,
I picked up the loaded dice hoping
they were full of blanks.

September has this, my life
that it was my May
that forsake me,
she was fancy,
never though free.

I shall walk behind
just to pick up some pieces
of your thoughts,
and watch you walk away with mine.

Don't like the word "hope", too passive
indicative of waiting; me,
I prefer taking action.
No red light here, no waiting,
not even caution, just green go, taking
the action that fits my mood,
going forward, onward, there.

I’m headed west, to bring our viewpoints
to a point, to meet your gaze
in mine, to hold moments
together under the same stars.

You have my wishes in your hand.
I have the unknown in mine.
Let’s throw the dice…

Thank you everyone for your lines! Sorry I took forever to put this one up. I'll try to be more on the ball for the next round.

life is a circle,,,

run in it dizzy,,,

love being lost,,,

find surrender to ground...

Travel - Oh the joy of newness!
All is bright, fresh, a book
uncovered, a step
into fate's next chapter.
Paris is calling...I'm listening.
I've got a flinch of a feeling
this trip’s gonna change my life.

Like many before,
he traveled a distant shore,
walked the path of the fisherman's shoe,
suffered the very same fate
from an age-old hate
where he fell, blood red poppies grew.

Her words dripped honey and tears...
She waited, heard nothing,
and went on, never knowing how
his love for her followed
him into the years.

This morning, I saw a suitcase
all brown, sitting alone, outside,
on the city corner,
ready to take someone somewhere.
My time to roam is coming soon,
I feel it.

That pulling, the moment of non-restraint,
gravity just prior to the first kiss,
when time holds its breath
for lovers to fuse
into one mouth, one breath,
twin souls united at long last.

My journey beckons…
You will be my net to fall into
when I reach your shore.

Thank you to everyone who submitted lines for this round! A couple of entries didn't make it in. Sorry about that. The poem needed to be what it is.

I like the poem's storyline. And I like the sense of anticipation coupled with loss--hope going on, wandering again to a new place. I'm feeling this one now.

Urges are curious things; they surface
unannounced, demand attention, are an itch
that want to be scratched.
Once recognized, next comes the decision--to listen,
obey, or to shove them down and distract yourself.

Soviet madwomen retch at the sight
of a needle-weakened toady
dogfight dopes nihility
a moneyless rude sin
the empty modern beater has
a jubilant keen stench
balanced as we are on the wire
slim meniscus of hope
is all that we would aspire
to be the saviour,
through the dark
and dankness, water will be pure
icy to the throat,
i swim with eyes open

i have no dreams of white
purity has no space,
within my soul
your sojourn was incomplete
lacking in warmth,
there was no heart to this love.
A charm, a thought, a piece of glass,
a petal, that color, the smell of the past,
the wheel turning slowwwlllyyyy,
a 28 day revolution
and resemblance was uncanny.

The night settles down about me, yet
I am enthralled with my art and images and scents
and dreams of Paris
and what's next…

I almost saw it move.
Under the guise of madness, my heart bleeds kisses.

in sleepless alien
weighty hothead ant
mud butt by pimp
penalize sleepless alien
awesomely molest the sparkle

while the world is in slumber,
what is hoped to be awakened--
enema healingly lazy
loyal outdated pipe
plebe romp simpleness
sleek sleepiest stealth
swine than thumb-wise

my unwinged goddess,
there should be talk
of light and love,
mysteries of space and time
or whether lemons
make better zest than limes,
instead of politic and senseless
non-musical jumbled rhymes,
why the sea should be of purple hue
rather than nonsensically blue
and then all of this would make better sense
were it writ in long past tense:

salt water stings my eyes
these tears will wash away the pain.

As you know....... (and if you don't, please take a look at the intro paragraph at the top).........

This tribe was inspired by the Surrealist concept of "exquisite corpse" wherein a drawing would be formed in three sections, with a different artist doing each section. I thought you might like to see some, so I found a handful online.

See them in the photo album. They're really cool.

Hope springs eternal,
hovering over possibly extinct
sentient peoples reading insignificant notes
gone south,
even though existential rhinoceri natter at
length
The plates shifted, busting up, raising the mountain
just a little bit higher.
I walked into the lobby and saw from a distance there were two men
seated, on opposite sides. I said, "Is one of you Ben?"
The right one's smile spread slowly. I was gone just like that,
ahhhhhhhhh.
The hollow beckons me…
True histories, stories echoed off underground tunnels --
Brought out and sold under starlight...
To end the waiting in Hollywood.
a day like no other was how it was described
we had heard those words before,
they were empty then as now
rain washes away most everything
if it really rains,
tears are never enough
I had sex with a stranger
in guilty tears, i held my love
tight to my arms
then i knew that only this;
was home.
I lay in solitude
wrapped in dreams,
but not alone,
for you are with me always;
in my soul.
"Art is dead"...
but Dad did the deed
with the rat in the tar --
tra la la, tra la la -- si?...
on the me
toady in needle
the agony sign
overfed personal misnomer
the lousy buyers
the spewer home
it is mental killings
vehement torn vanity gaiety
momentous fogey dies
When I was traveling in space I looked below and saw
giant green tigers sleeping in S's.
scavenge and shabbier driveler
it tube alienation
volcanic or grim half
Wondering what to do next, I slip into the greyness
that doesn't suit me well, I pause, engage my spiritual nature, and
dismiss the wondering as I waltz off into my own personal
delightful dark madness. Ahhh.
"It's alpha-plus batty, screwball!!!..."

Thank you everyone for all of your lines. This one was particularly surreal. I love it!

The lines that came in for this one clearly seemed to want to go into two different poems. So, I let them. Here are the results........

(37-1)

there are no dreams left
just an empty space
where my heart will cry
my soul curls for the want of you,
to see your hair framed against my pillow
and that I might breathe your air,
but cannot, keeps me in despair
stolen thoughts
to dream once more
of a salty kiss,
a memory
to fill my cup of bliss
let slip those dogs of war and lust,
photo opportunity cannon ejecting,
bring on the warriors,
for they can be saviours
this message
will I scratch earnestly
for my love to see
here, upon this tree
my heart, my love,
my soul and passion
belong to thee.

waiting for you in the garden of my heart,
I dance alone at midnight…

(37-2)

The succulent juices ran over his full lips
and down his strong chin
as I imagined reaching out with my tongue
to cleanse the citrusy sweetness for him; to taste
his flesh mingled with the fruit
plucked fresh off the tree
that sultry Summer's day.

Are you ready for the new sensations
like uniformed state troopers
consuming aromatic coffee beans
like Doc Holiday at a wine tasting?

Hold on

At the end of this journey is
loving and squeezing and
32 flavors and then some.

Thanks to all who sent me lines for this round. I hope you are all enjoying the delights of summer.

I traveled north on green wave tops,
some flecked white.
This was not running away,
but to find warmth, for it is my red gold time;
you are bright colours and bees,
I should be there with you.

Steel desire awakens a carnal burning like onions
free-falling from an airplane without a parachute
robbing the will I had, have, and will always have:
Autonomy blooms within,
without need to lead astray.

This wind blows cool amongst the blossoming branches
dust devils whirl and dance around my boots,
the leaves that were yesterday
tumble and curl with the dust,
words I have written go flying by --
for what use are they, mere words hold no
currency with the wind.

The gulls shall know the truth of it,
as they wheel and scream overhead:
Who shall inherit this place?
meeeeeeeeeeee, they cry!

Streetcars rattle over the hill,
down the other side to the bay.
I am here on the dock,
waiting,
for Spring.

Bright verdant leaves now shoot forth
on sturdy boughs,
golden light fills the warming air,
and you find me here:
this time,
ours at last.

she said to me, hold my hand
show me what it’s like, love me
be my man;
just tilt her head,
smiled her wicked smile
oh kiss me
was what she said;
then I’ll show you what you want to see

fragrant lattice laced wisteria
sun warmed skin
the smell of deep water
all asked her to rest ---
bending currents releasing old,,,
lost wrong way feel hearts choice,,,
love walking practice,,,
finding art in one,,,
l earth water growth co-create healing...

his physical size was never
taken to account,
intellect made reparations for that,
lack of timbre in articulation
gave cause for question ---
still, their flow reached
for a graceful understanding,
a flowering friendship
undaunted by time and space,,,

healing water cooling their hearts,
lingering like the color of sunset afterthoughts
and ferris wheels in silhouette
they seeped into dusky moods as
their hands met at last.

Hello everyone,

As you may have noticed, Mara has passed the full moderatorship onto me. We had always shared the mod duties, but she is very busy these days. So, now I will be doing all the rounds.

I hope we will continue to bring together cool people and make cool poems. I very much enjoy seeing things fall into place, and I love editing. Things have been slower here lately than usual. Maybe it's the spring weather, or something in the air. Who knows....

Just keep on jotting down those lines that rattle around your little brains --- they form such wonderful mosaics of words when we patch them together.

From now on, all lines go to me. I'm open to any guest mods, theme ideas, etc.

Let's write some damn poetry, people! ; )

Hi, I wanted to open this particular line by line with an invitation to be whoever you want to be. To speak as a character you are not in your normal life. As someone who you aspire to emulate. Give me your alter ego.

Deadline?

April 15th.

and does it give a little heat
should it do so,
and perhaps if i were a little bold
i might ask them
if it keeps out winter cold.
"Lovely" he murmured
as he gazed longingly
just to the right of my eyes;
I turned around
stunned to see
he was looking
at his own reflection
in the mirror behind me.

freedom grows inspiration
true lust is never quiet
siren wails call your name,
flashing crimson lights
refract your eyes
A Battle Royale
between
the dark oppression of Winter
and the rebirth
and hope of Spring,
we know the victor
will be the buds and blossoms,
but how much longer
will this war be waged?
a last pomegrate hung sadly
from the skeleton branch,
ruby red seeds
spewing from rented flesh
and a deep sigh
of a lover
who was left unsated.

One look, his touch, that kiss
sends me soaring high above the earth,
peering down at myself
wrapped in a flurry of arms and legs
praying the moment never ends.
I will stand behind you in your dream
and whisper my name,
you shall know me
for your heart is on my soul
Two drops of salted bliss remain,
lithe fingers trace a lovers name
lusts leavings burns a forever stain
my soul softens and my heart begins to weep
not of the lack of love,
I am loved and love,
my tears trickle for the joy of love
you came in the nick of time
i had just given up hope
of anyone speaking my language
and holding me close
without fear
love the compassion that harmonizes all
Thirty two the tears, that flow discarded gems
like rivers, sparkling a pleasure soft and serene

Thank you, everyone who wrote lines for this round. I didn't have it in me to write any this time. It's all yours.

For him, how he was with the world,
even love was silent
for he had none, save for his memory --
perhaps he had forgotten how to
let feeling in again.

Alone and frighteningly still,
I strain to capture any sound
available, but there is nothing
but the gentle hum of the lights
and the pounding of my heart.

Does she love me still?
Does she still hurt?

Hers a silent world, life sentence
under a perpetual snow fall, sans beauty.
Time’s careworn tracks had left deep furrows;
soft finger traced lines
that marked days of depth,
pain and sorrow, so much for life.

Alone we are as signs in the dark.
Without you, nothing reaches me.
Alone we hear only tiny whispers.
A vacuum surrounds me, yet
Together, we are as thunder.
The moonlit shadow rushes
through the field, leaving no trace.

Does he remember how to love?
Does he ever feel pain?

Quiet. Quiet!
Shouting-Calling-Mouthing words!
Words, too many -
Quiet! Be Quiet! Quiet NOW!
Be.
Quiet.
Shhhhh.

Where do these words come from?
Why do my dreams suddenly
bring her beautiful face again and again?
Am I going crazy?

Louder than lonely,
bigger than time.
Honestly I don't know
what to say.
I miss your heart.
My soul is lost without you.

Where is your heart?
You swore, even in silence, it would
always be with mine.
How can I trust this? And why
should I live forever with this
hushed ache?

Will they realize how time will never
be able to erase love?
Will their pain live on, long after memory?
Or, will new love grow and soften
their endless, entwined sorrows?

open hearts shine so clear
closing the door behind me, I don’t want
anything anymore
trace with middle finger a soft line along dusty partitions within thoughts,
feel there, the warp and weft that is the fabric of your history
but if the stars could somehow spell it out across the skies,
thus I weep for love, and, having wept
will keep my tears in trust,
that a time will come I can sigh your name again
I didn't get what I wanted this year.
I didn't hear the words I waited for.
I didn't say what I meant to say.
I only held my breath and stayed.
Last year I thought, by this time, we would be
blissfully joining our lives together,
surrendering into oneness with glee
sacred grace
virtually transforming space and time,
love bares it's heart to shine,
walking beside in rhyme,
natural beauty sublime...
holiday decorations still dot the houses in the distance;
that time is over and the year is heading into
the coldest, darkest hours of Winter, yet the air is warmer than it
should be, trees are budding in a confused state, the promise of
Spring will be fulfilled, but for now it's only a tease.
spent messages
words without merit
your heart no longer asks
for clemency
and here I am, wasting the hours away,
wondering why…
I will never understand
how you can live without
such deep love.
you felt you had no choice,
but I know there is always
a choice – and I would
always choose love.

A vague feeling of discomfort swarmed through me,
unsettling my senses -– what is this malaise? I wonder,
having sought meaning for my diaspora.
I wake hollow, and the knowing, leaves me with dread
for in leaving, the I that was me, remains.
My intention was perhaps misunderstood…

How lost she looked
bound to the ground
of hard permafrost
and angry passersby,
destination gone into now…
Drink your toast to her and dreams!
She is everything and more,
not only but the blind not see
sweet beauty of,
Terpsichore.
You were the dream of the world
in my eyes, my sweet…
Loving enough finds harmony within wackiness --
intimately feel freaks like we.
Don’t you remember?

Her demeanor was that of a perfectly
bred young lady, but looking into her
large pupils, deeper than the superficial blackness,
a swirling fire raged
threatening to incinerate all around her
A dazzling debut brought many admiring
glances, such possibility for future happiness!
They were all immediately
drawn toward you like hope to the desperate.
Somehow I crossed a path that night,
to fade into you.
Not so long ago…

You thought your righteous, noble choice
was the only way -- but,
deep in your heart,
do you still feel the sacrifice
was worth it?
Or does an arrow pierce truth
Straight through you –-
leading back to me, to us?

My woe seems unending
as I wait and wait, forlorn,
in a fog between hoping and hopelessness,
only wishing day after day for your return.
Let us recapture the dream!
Love can be experienced anew,
a life as one is within our grasp,
if only you would choose it to be so…

Don’t let the cold submerge you,
sealing your heart into a frozen hardness –-
O, be alive with me!
Round 29

THEME:

Pick a word/s randomly in the dictionary and write lines inspired by it/ them.

I was flipping through a really old dictionary at a friend's house the other night while he was picking records to spin that night. I liked meandering through the many words and looking at the tiny old drawings beside the definitions. Somehow it almost made a kind of story.

It's always cool to find words -- or let them find you, however you might like to see it.

Let's see what we come up with.

DEADLINE: Send me your lines by Tuesday, Dec. 19 at 7pm EST.

Thank you!!!

P.S. To all the newbies: all you have to do is send the current moderator your lines by the deadline, and use LBL and the # of the round in the subject line. For example, say LBL 29 for this one. This helps us keep track of the lines so they don't get deleted/ lost.

Pirouettes of time fall around my feet
as flakes of rust to stain my skin,
they leave notice of this passing
for discordant descants of gossip to shriek names
clouds of disharmony gather, threaten
What lies in wait, watches us, stealing glances,
making promises, where will it lead?
Waiting, it wasn't the best idea, but it was all they had.
breaths of time loosely held by threads of yesterday
whispers of dreams turn to sighs
what was immediate now drift upon a different sea,
just history
I was doing fine until someone sang 'Happy Birthday'
and reminded me of my mortality
this life, this nature, no sweet scent but a sinuous twisting golem
where desire lies dormant under ripening skin
turbulent diaspora of what was
scents of musty earth /compost / remnants of
dried up lusts and spilled seed
If only life came with an instruction manual, maybe then all the wires wouldn't be crossed.
Flying through the darkness of the night guided only by love
Take my bracelets
now while my lips are living
The life is over
weird and bright beside the dreamscape
The insanity will go
flickering alive
walking out of the world.
lead into heaven and dropped like a rock
dreamy to dirty contrasts a lot
passionate animal fights like a cock
depth we may find in our own nonsense
one with the rock in shock
love shines light into dark,
depths brightened with life as a lark...
the hours I've spent
tearing down your framework
deconstructing your anatomy
there is only the sea
no parameters, just horizon
uncomplicated unrushed, for it is always there
unyielding, intemperate never blemished
a perfect line
Awaken, awaken!

The whole seven year cycle thing,
there's something to it.
I can feel the sand emptying the hourglass,
with the last bits trickling down
being ready for a turn come June 07.
showing love in all ways
Forever searching
for something to quell
the hunger inside
I question:
is it a physical need
or an emotional one...
perhaps gooey chocolate
and salty chips
will meet both needs simultaneously,
at least for the moment.
Sorrow is aging me.
Without you to return my gaze,
the light in my eyes grows dim.
There are days when
I hardly recognize myself.
Oh , but his dreams
are awkward fractal jumbled things
piled in confusion,
breakwater rocks in a corner
anodyne bits of who he was,
not what he could be,
they never are or have a future.
I took one in the gut
sore and doubled-over
I watched you walk away
and admired your new boots...
snuggle slut fantasy.

You know what? The fact that half of you ::dared:: me to be able to fit them in cracks me up. Look at that flow.

Ha!

Take that, you darers!

Love,

I want to update you on the progress of the book:

Currently I am using only ones that are not edited. Read, only those which were made as they came in. Editing kind of violates the process as it was intended... and while it is rad and looks awesome and I love love love the work we have here, I just want to present it as raw as possible.

I am asking for you all to help me align the contents. Should I put them in order, or by tribe favorites? You have a say in this, so speak up.

Also, I would really like to have at least 30 to come to and select from, so this will be sooner than later since we are at 21 right now.

And one more thing, Kim is my co-pilot and has been acting as facilitator much more than I in my frequent absences so it stands to reason that we would work together on this. Any questions can be answered by her after she and I have collaborated. Give us a week?

Ok, love love love and many thanks for the beautiful words.

A sore, hot throat changed my mood,
altered my perspective,
took my intensity down a nudge,
and achieved success with her.
the seeds of time have sown themselves to I
bleakness of lonely nights
curl the edges of my soul
what has gone, and been
has no poignancy to its meaning
(hearts are open)
Loneliness
is more than I need to bear
Feelings repressed,
the soul concealed
Languishing,
the mind wanders...
wondering why?
Touching you but feeling another,
hearing your thoughts
but not your dreams
Seeing a blank silhouette where
once your smile met me each day
brings more pain than I could have expected.
You took away yet another part of us,
leaving me even less to hold onto.
leaves crunch under feet
igniting my senses in twilight
and brought me
to the end
of the road
where no more
will I linger.

The swallow of a fresh new day breathes me free
and I empty my visions to see anew.
Our marks on sands are ever swept
we leave no trace for another day,
time and tide dusts our leavings
once done, we will never pass this way.
Obsequious as a puppy eager to please his master,
he brought over the kettle and cups,
making tea for me.
Wet lines of hemp
cheese coiled on teak decking,
leaves imprinted snake shape
and grave smell of deep sea…
Night’s cool wind echoed the ringing hollow
I felt when I looked at him,
despite his best efforts.
Longing and loss still trouble
my thoughts, as much as I try to forget.
Moist air and endless views
will not bring relief.
Foggy dreams offer no insight, no solace,
only vague traces of memory.
I fight to remain asleep in the early
morning hours before the sun rises:
outside, all is quiet, but my mind reels
in riotous torment.
This voice always reaches me…
Open the door. Peer into the abyss.
Your company loves the misery.
Toss it all back and slam the door.
You know it will come back to you eventually.
Why can’t I let go of you?

bouncing around on the rebound
a tingle while mingling single, I
romance my pants while dancing a dance
left me numb, left me dumb, a thumb sucker
Winners never cheat, and cheaters never win:
stupidity in its finest form...
as if you could play that game
indefinitely without getting caught?
If it was meant to be his one big chance,
then where is the followthrough?
Fool left her standing with a wet smile
and a wish for swingset romance.
i dont date
p'raps 'cos i'm short
an really don' rate
or is it because i snort
in my sleep,
or maybe, just maybe, like this
i always run late!
"You have no new messages";
I tire of reading the same old nothing.
"Lavalife"? More like I "need a life!"
There has got to be an easier way
than this to meet someone
you can share laughs, love, and life with.
______________________________________________--

There were two messages I was not sure if they were for this and one which was so out of sync with all the rest that I thought it wise to keep it for the next round. Hope no one minds.

Hey, for the record, I love the way this one is short yet very honest.

Hey, I know we are still on the last round, but I am eager to run a thematic one.

Here's the topic:

Stupidity in dating

Run with it.

This is a short one with a deadline of Friday the 13th. Bust out.

I have a lot of ire surrounding this theme right now and could use some commiseration.

She trod lightly to my path
her of lithe spirit, deep heart
thus, then became my life
and segued unto the music of my soul.
The reality is in your eyes. You need not ask
me for my truth...it is reflected in mine as well.
Head in hands, I hear the desert winds, I remember
the trek through the magical banned place,
the wizard's wind whipping, distorting time,
onward we moved, onward,
mind frozen, body forward, step by step.
Thoughts of yester drifted across my soul
settled dark upon my senses
just underlines of some old sadness.
As if the deep growl and throaty burble propelled
me to break the surface of consciousness
I’ve taken the needle off the record
because the song is too painful to listen to.
But sometimes I have to play it again because
I still love it so much --
chaos being harmonious.
Fall on my sword?
Yesterday is then another country
my memory of what was,or pass'd, has dimmed
borders are now closed.
I wait with breathless anticipation
for the moment to arrive
but it never comes, in fact I really have no idea
what I'm waiting for…

**I woke up theis morning to see I had never pressed submit...sory for the delay, but here it is**

I brush away drying leaves of thought;
paper thin skeins of lonely ideas that hold no currency.
What I thought was funny, he took, very defensively, whoa.
There are some people that you just won't like and they won't like you either, don't try and fix just deal it and move ahead.
Distancing the heart from the mind, separating desperation from thought.
Sacrificed upon your alter,
Skin aglow, I am your savior.
It sounds like a good beginning but I never really felt anything. Now, I only feel frustration and stress.
Velvet sky weighs heavy down this night.
Though soft, the scales of life wear grooves to my soul
and leave their marks; carve a stillness to my heart.
How did the sweet ease of our time jump the track and go barreling into a frightening free fall from which there was no hope of salvation?
It is you I wish I could
call today
to tell you about my good news.
You would be so proud of me.
But it doesn't even
matter anymore.
Standing at the edge of nowhere
Dare I go forward, or anywhere?
I feel safer right here.

Hey, I am a bit distracted since a few things have come up not the least of which being that my dear friend found out her little 4 year old has leukemia. So I am asking that you all step in and mod for this tribe for a while. Maybe a coupla weeks? Stephanie, would you be into taking up my slack right now?

So little energy right now.

So, um, I apologize.

I can accept that love
is a 64-box of Crayons.
My question though, is
who stole my magenta?
Ou, I was hot, I felt Satan's heat ride right up me and simmer.
So I said to the store clerk, Dude, I need to friggin' chill.
Sigh, thought about it and I changed my tune to - merrily merrily merrily,
life is but a dream.
a small beetle of some unknown genus
scurries along what once was a loving hand
that might have held another just so,
then
stroked a fevered brow and sacred places
where only lovers know,
here lies where the words of heart and soul came formed
rime covers this in part
"How much do you love me?" she said in wide eyed anticipation
while her mother looked into her innocent eyes..."More than the whole world?"
"My Sweet, how can you measure what is one's heart? You need
never ask this of anyone...listen to your soul, and the answer will be clear."
They say the future is unwritten
Turn on the news and I'd say not true
oil, water, food, air, pollution
war, conflict, starvation in the midst of plenty
war crimes, bombs, IEDs, suicide bomb, sorties
Hopefully, the final chapter hasn't been written yet.
Yet the weakening vision of age reveals the hidden
darkness of young souls
the measured tread of time would separate us
from the chaos of becoming
She was feeling so much better, her head free to dream, and the
bounce returned to her step, ahhh.
You rescind my elastic ardor --
no coaxing wishing praying
will dissolve your stone
soul-shield

frightened by the matching reds of heart and hatred
after tapping name after name in my PDA
shaking my head no and no and no again
I left the lines blank - my life in black and white
it said, "Emergency Contact" and I thought, yes
that's exactly what I need...
manufactured fear is sold through the tele
to the apathetic elasto-plastic masses
pick up some comfort in slices at the deli
with complimentary rose-colored glasses
a wave of relief has rejuvenated me, all
because of the decision I made to apply justice
Wish- nik Trolls are alright with me
hard work is its own reward
our time on this earth is so fleeting and can be
gone in the blink of an eye:
if we wait to enjoy living, we might never get the chance.
like a low, rumbling growl
enveloping you with a comfort fused with foreboding
whispers of your thought became dreams of time.
my reality segues into space from where you have been, your scent
upon my pillow leaves an imprint there
carrying your heart with me
weighs more than all the stones you’ve ever seen
but I want to keep hauling you around anyway
reverberating darkness, my medicated emotions keep the blackness
at bay, but make me dull, weary and unfeeling

I was looking for my yin.
He had to be an angel -- pure, tender,
ethereally connected.
Black into white
contrasting delights…
This is my night, shadows fall
blocking out the light
for that is you.

A flash of light
and negative is all I see
You're in reverse like Mercury
slippery shadowed trickster
backwards stalking hipster.
Fading, fading to black again... again.

Walking the line between
shadows and light, do I seek salvation or
the darkest of night?
There are whole days now, where I
only interact with shadows.
Their dancing forms react to me
as I telepathically tell them my special stories.

Shadow and light, light and shadow
irrevocably intertwined,
Two souls dance
as one form, carved out
by unseen hands.
I remember this moment as
though it were a reality.

Your face radiates beauty
as the light reflects upon you,
your eyes have peered into my soul;
all this from a photograph; I try to imagine
the sound of your voice; all this
from a simple photograph.
I have not heard your voice since…

Blinded by the darkness but saturated with light,
I see nothing except the etching
you left behind, under my flesh.
Looking at petrified images of your
magnificent, calm face will not
bring comfort now.
Only your return could convey my salvation.
This waiting emptiness erodes my
hope as each sun passes
across the sky…

Every day brings grey tones,
dampening the pain, but
not allowing its departure.
Your brilliance stings me hard
as plush charcoal shadows
seep into my recesses and wrap
around memories of sunlit days together.

Shadows caress my wounds where
your light once shone, warmed my blood and soul.
Now cool sorrow slides over the aches.
Still your words live in my skin.
I want to swallow the shadows and pour light
into the gaps again.

Will you trace your way back to me?

Well, let's see what happens! The topic for this one is SOUND.

If you can record your line via computer and email me an audio file (any format), cool. If you have a mic option on your computer but can't get it to work, post the situation and perhaps this fantastic commmunity can help.

If you are not able to use the computer to record, I'll take a tape by mail. Just try to get a really clean recording.

Whatever method you use, when it's ready, snd me a message and I'll let you know where to email or snail mail it.

The deadline for all lines is August 1st. I'll have it posted for our enjoyment by August 15th.

Happy recording! Chris

(( Ooooh, that sounds sexy! haha ))

Which round do you each want to read? I think it would be fine to have repeats. That might be really cool, actually -- to hear how each person interprets/ expresses the lines.

Just wondering who wants to do which.

I think I'd like to read round 16 (lost love theme).

Does anyone know more about sound files? I might try to use Garage Band to do mine.

The distant hum, faint at first, grew
to an erratic and wild chatter
as the musky air demanded
the time of the cicadas had come once more.
Time to break out of here,
