Friday night performer info

Location: The Ritz - 346 E. Broad Street

Performers report @ 7 PM
Doors open @ 8 PM
Show starts @ 8:30 PM

Performers need to wear shoes, come dressed and be ready.
Atmosphere is fun and relaxed, a hafla and with food.
Stage is raised and wood with black back drop.
Bring an extra CD.
There is a bar there to serve drinks.
The location is around the corner from the Atlanta Classsic Center and is close to all the hotels.

Door ticket - $5
food ticket - $10 - Middle Eastern fare with veggie and meat options
These can be purchased at the door or at the event - tickets for 40 people for food (after that there will be no more food).

No dressing rooms at this location - only bathrooms. The stage is large (but I'm not sure how large - good for groups and solo artists. No video, the person canceled on me.

ok so Im a total genius and I completely forgot what all I signed up for! There were so many awesome classes and I marked a bunch of them but I cant remember which classes I actually signed up for, lol. Is there any way for me to find that out or will they tell me when I get there??? I feel like its the first day of high school and Im the kid that forgot her schedule!! lol

I would like to invite everyone to join us Friday night in Athens for a Hafla to meet your Southern Fusion Instructors and other attendees. There will also be a dance show featuring regional and local talent as well as our featured artists Devyani Dance Company, Fatina & Liora.

There will be wonderful Middle Eastern Food - Catered by one of our local Athens businesses 'Dondero's International Kitchen'. (meat & veggie options will be available)

Tickets can only be purchased at SFF registration desk or at the Ritz door.

Focusing on personal style and music interpretation, each dancer will bring out their “dance personality” and put it to use in each dance combination. Special attention to body language and facial expression will take place in this unique class, with exercises to help dancers unleash new ways of interpreting the music.

"Reaching New Heights” - Bozenka will give each student specialized attention on transitions, execution of movement, aesthetics, and musicality (what Bozenka likes to refer to as (T.E.A.M.). To take your dancing to a higher level, awareness of all these elements is essential. Let Bozenka guide you through exercises (dance combinations) that will help you project better posture, strengthen your articulation of movements and put a spark into every performance. This challenging class will also incorporate improvisation to unleash self-expression and will focus on musicality.

Sunday:

“Latin/Arabic Fusion Combinations By Bozenka” - Learn how to put your Salsa, Cha-Cha and more into your belly dancing. This moderately paced class will teach you simple and flavorful combinations to incorporate a Latin dance flare into your own dance routine.

“Facial Expressions and Body Language” - This is one of Bozenka’s most popular workshops among dancers who are at an advanced level but is encouraged for dancers of all levels. This workshop focuses on the interpretation between Dancer and Music as well as the communication between Dancer and Audience. Bozenka uses creative methods to encourage dancers to interpret the feelings caused by the music and to learn to convey those feelings to the audience. Gina of Atlanta Workshop!

Hello Dancers!

This past Saturday, I had the sincere honor and pleasure of hosting
Gina of Atlanta here in eastern North Carolina. This was my very first
event and I am so proud to say it was a HUGE SUCCESS!!!

I just wanted to thank all the wonderful ladies from the local and
surrounding areas that attend this workshop and made it possible. A
big thanks to Nadira (Christie Hill) from Greenville for coming and
bringing all of her fabulous ladies with her, Susan Sutton and Sharon
Carlton from Wilson, and LuAnn Hooper from Hampstead. And of course,
all of my dedicated students that came out and supported this event.

I would also like to send out another big thank you to all the awesome
vendors that came and sold their wonderful wares. We had Sashi of Blue
Fusion Tribal, the "Llama Mamas" Holly and Nicole with Eye Kandy,
Grand Bazaar of Wilmington and our very own Jennifer Avila with
"Beautiful Life" jewelry. The shopping was amazing and I know everyone
was really happy with all their new goodies!

Gina was amazing and I couldn't have chosen a better person to host a
workshop with, she was a dream! I know we have all learned a lot and
have been inspired by her instruction, sheer talent and positive and
encouraging personality, Gina Raqs!!!

I am looking forward to being apart of many more events here on the
coast, and this workshop was the perfect way to kick-start the unity
of bellydance here in eastern North Carolina!!! Thank you again to
everyone that made this possible!

Heya everyone!

Info and reminders about the Swap n Shop (see the end of the email for the original info that went out) : Anyone who reserved a space must pay Jeannie the fee BEFORE you will be allowed to set up. For private swappers, that's $5, for professional vendors, that's $10. Not sure which you are? If you are offering primarily used items, a la a yard sale, you are a private swapper. If you are offering primarily new items, whether or not they are handmade by you, you are a professional vendor. We love vendors that offer handmade wares as we are fueling and encouraging the handmade revolution! So, this isn't an event where you will see alot of mass-market products that everyone else has. Viva la DIY!

There will NOT be tables there. We encourage everyone to bring a small table or, preferably, a blanket. Please keep in mind that this is a community event, and there will be alot of blankets and swappers. So, try not to crowd your neighbors or take over the entire space. We want everyone to benefit from this event so we can try to do it again and we want this to primarily be a chance for use to recycle costuming. Please determine BEFOREHAND what you are willing to swap, what you wish to sell, and what prices you are willing to accept. If you are selling, please bring change. Of course, you are solely responsible for your stuff and your cash. If you are buying, please bring smaller bills. There won't be anyone there to break that c-note, big spender! ;)

Plan to be there at 1PM to set up, and plan to be out by 4PM. Leave the space how you found it. I know it's a short time, but we didn't want to rent the room for eight hours, and only five or six people show up. If we have a good response, we'll try to get it for longer, but be aware that it will require everyone to contribute another fee for your spot so that the financial burden isn't on any one person. Again, this is a community event. :)

Alchemy will be having a raffle (see below for more details) and a bake sale (ditto). Come hungry and support our efforts to bring Unmata to the Southern Oasis in 2009! If you want to contribute something to the bake/food sale, we'd love that! We have water, lots of sweets, and sandwiches lined up. Just email me if you want to make a contribution. :)

Bring a friend or seven and browse the blankets, buy a raffle ticket and have fun in a casual setting with YOUR bellydance community! Bring a reusable bag to bring your stuff home in, and a backpack with anything you might want to offer for a swap. Remember, EVERYONE in every troupe, every style, every area is more than welcome! Please join us! We'd love to see all our shimmying, drumming, and supportive friends there!

1. Athens has plenty of places to eat BUT catering is available all weekend for the Ansuya workshop. Dondero's International Kitchen will be catering - http://www.donderoskitchen.com . Food must be pre-ordered by March 13th - you can call, email, or fax your order directly to Dondero's (don't send it to me or Fatina!) and payment is expected at the time of the order. The food will be delivered to the seminar location at no extra charge.

2. Just a reminder - online registration for the Ansuya workshop will end Friday morning. Registration will be an additional $10 at the door, space permitting.

Denys Proteau: At Southern Oasis 2008 Denys will run a general introductory hand drumming class. Participants may
also bring other percussion instruments such as tambourine, clave, zills, wooden spoons, etc. Participants are strongly encouraged to bring audio recording gadgets such as tape recorders, mp3 recorders, dictating recorders, or waxed cylinder recorders. Printed handouts will be available. We'll play a variety of listening and rhythm learning games, as well learn and practice new rhythms. Ashley Bennett: This workshop will be focused, primarily, on stage presence and fluid motion - with a concentration on arm and hand movements. A certified yoga instructor, Ashley typically begins and ends each workshop with enough yoga to warm up the body to support flexibility, and then slow it down again to prevent aching and soreness for the "morning after." Ashley will offer her workshop on Saturday, March 8th from 1230PM-230PM. Location: Augusta Fencing Club 134 9th St Augusta, GA.

Alchemy: In this workshop, the emphasis will be on floorwork: toning and building the muscles necessary for safe, strong, and controlled floorwork, introducing new movement to your repertoire, and learning how to incorporate floorwork into improvisational performances for the solo or group dynamic. We will also cover the "no-nos", what to consider to keep your floorwork from devolving into a peep show, and how to comport yourself to best display your strength and mastery to the audience. All of this will be presented in the same lighthearted, safe, accepting atmosphere Alchemy is known for in its classes. So, come prepared for a workout, great information, but most of all come with questions and a smile! All levels welcome! Please bring knees pads or a yoga mat. Lauren Prince: African Dance Workshop-Come and take part in this foot-tapping, arm-swinging, hair flying workshop! This African Dance workshop will surely move your feet and make you sweat! Many of the dances are from West Africa and therefore has very fast and energetic beats. This workshop will teach the basics of West African dance but it will definitely give a good and high-energy workout. Following the teaching of the basics, will be choreography. The choreography consists of dance moves that are warrior moves and moves to welcome in peace, fertility, and happiness. Be prepared to let yourself go! Experience the high-energy and fast rhythms that'll make you want to go to the motherland. Lauren will offer her workshop on Sunday, March 91 from 1230PM-230PM. Barbara Shine: The basics of international folk dancing will be taught along with some energetic and fun dances from Israel, Greece, Bulgaria and Romania and will include a variety of tempo and style. The dances taught will be those very well known by most international groups in the US. Bring clean, soft-soled shoes with support (recommended) for this lively session. * SFF 2008 is bigger and better than last year! We listened to our SFF 2007
Attendee feedback, and made several changes and upgrades accordingly. Please
stay tuned to this site for more information detailing this year's changes and what to
expect at our event.

Some highlights include: We have added a Specialty Class room to focus on our
regions specifics dancers needs - including classes specifically geared toward
advanced and professional dancers, prop classes and specialty topics. These
classes are limited to only 15 participants, space is limited, so register early to
reserve your spot.

We have also changed our location to Athens, GA to ease our attendees' experience.
The new location is at the Athens Classic Center, with easy access to parking, food,
hotels and all SFF 2008 events.

This year we have increased our instructors with many options gear specifically to
tribal and cabaret attendees. Expect a weekend packed with classes, shopping, great
shows and a ton of fun!

Just wanted to share some updates on the upcoming Ansuya workshop in Athens, GA!

* Due to conflicting events in Athens, there is a new location for the workshop. We will be at Memorial Park on Gran Ellen Drive - address and directions are available on the website.

* The Performers Registration Form has now been posted! If you are interested in dancing in the show, you must email all information and music to Samira, our show manager. Space is limited, available first come, first serve.

* Don't forget! Early Bird Registration ends February 24th, so don't delay in registering!
