Got my studio set up over the weekend in its new Bonny Doon location, and spent 2 days straight gettin' deep with Logic for the first time. So far, so good, but as a first time user I've got a few questions for y'all:
In its default state, Logic automatically routes all external midi controllers to whatever midi track (internal or external) is currently selected. Is there an easy way to have separate input settings for each midi track? For example, I would like to have my keystation 88 routed to a soft synth, and have my pad kontrol routed to battery or ultrabeat, and then record midi from both sources simultaneously to their separate tracks. Will I have to go "under the hood" into the environment for this?
Also, is there an easy way to automate softsynth parameters without knowing their midi CC#s? (Automating FX plug-ins works like this, just set auto to "record" and twist an onscreen knob). In general, I do this as midi rather than automation, but it would be nice to understand the options.
Lastly, does anyone know where Logic Pro keeps your serial # info? Now that I have bought a legit copy, I want to enter my own serial #, but couldn't find the pref file upon reinstalling...
Thanks for any ideas you have...

look up "auto demix by channel" in the manual and you'll find a quick answer on that. you basically need to channelize the two controllers so that one sends on midi ch 1 and one on midi chan 2 for example. that way, you can set up a software instrument in the channel strip parameter box to respond to the appropriate channel. look it up and you'll fig it out quick.
as for automation: go to prefs>control surfaces>learn (assign a key command in your key commands window). twist a knob on your controller to learn it to a parameter. thats that...
or there is automation quick access = 1 controller to control any currently selected automation parameter on a track. pretty easy that way...
don't know bout the serial. sorry! prefs should be in prefs folder on user partition....com.apple.logic.pro i think -
