Hey, I'm using a Kurzweil K2600XS and a MOTU Fastlane USB for MIDI control of Logic Studio. Having all kinds of problems with notes hanging, no matter what instrument I use (EVP, EVB3, EXS, everything). I think what's happening is that note offs are randomly not being generated, so I have to go back to each track and tidy up the MIDI data after the fact, not to mention how weird it sounds while playing.
The Kurzweil has a "Panic" soft button in the MIDI XMIT page, but Logic doesn't respond to it. Can't find anything in the Logic Users Guide about an "All Notes Off" command except for the Caps Lock on-screen keyboard thing, which is useless for this purpose.
Happens both in Logic and Mainstage. I'm completely new to Logic and have been trying to comb through the manuals and User's Guide. I see something in there about creating a transformer in the Environment (to smooth out velocity response in EVP88) but don't even know where to begin to start.
Do I have to go get a dedicated MIDI Controller? Is there a way to get Logic to read the Kurzweil's Panic button?
Or really, the fundamental issue - how can I get these two to play in the sandbox nicely so there aren't all these stray hanging notes? Is this a common problem?
Thanks in advance for any help.
Tim

Re: Weird note hangs, no easy panic button
Sat, November 3, 2007 - 11:42 AMThe panic button is on the MIDI activity display in the transport. Double-click it to send out panic message.
You can also try the key command "send discrete note offs" and see how that goes.
But, if this is happening all the time it sounds to me like it not be logic.
Is this happening only when using the kurzweil?
Do you have the most recent firmware/software updates for the kruzweil? I'm not familiar with the Kurzweil k2600XS, but you may look into that if the Kurzweil seems to be the culprit.
Also, have you confirmed that something is wrong with the data in the event list?

Re: Weird note hangs, no easy panic button
Mon, November 5, 2007 - 3:24 AMI'm getting the occasional hanging tones when editing in arrange or piano roll. I hit play and stop (spacebar twice) and it goes away - could be a totally different phenomenon though.
