Fourth Plinth Hula-Hoop Flash Mob - Sunday 27th September; 6.00 PM – 7.00 PM; Trafalgar Square

Hi Hula-Hoopers,

There’s going to be a hula-hooping flash mob this Sunday, featuring hula-hooping groups, a celebrity hula-hooper and a hula-hooper taking over Anthony Gormley’s fourth plinth. There will be a photographer there and the photos will be distributed to national media – we can e-mail the final shots to anyone who attends.

All that’s necessary is to turn up at Trafalgar Square for 6.00 PM this Sunday – things will start to happen!

There will be a limited number of light-weight hula-hoops available on the day, but if you could bring your own that would be great.

I would really appreciate it if you could spread the word to any-one you know who may be interested.

Hope to see you there for some hula-hooping fun!

here at Rainbow-Hoops we’re having a birthday celebration,
a “I can’t believe UKHG is over” moment and newsletter fever.
Our birthday is being celebrated with a generous offer, all
the details are in the Newsletter, which, hopefully will go out
monthly-ish. It will contain details of our special offers and
new hoop designs plus any news the hooping community
wants me to include: hoop classes, events etc. I’m often
asked what’s on and I direct queries to the links page at
Rainbow-Hoops, if you want me to put links to your sites
I’m happy to do the reciprocal thing.

Lastly, I just want to say how terribly proud we are of Gem’s
enormous effort in doing the UKhoopgathering, what a wonderful
success it was. And how lovely it was to meet you all, to put faces to
names I’d e-mailed or heard spoken about. It was an honour
to see such amazing hooping, knowing how difficult it is.

Bring a hoop or use one of the many provided at the event.
Suitable for anyone age 8 and over (under 16s with an adult, please).

As this event is so close to Easter, feel free to dress up, be silly and have fun.

UK Hoop Database

Hi everyone,
To my knowledge, there isn't anything such as a UK database of hoop instructors and performers, and a friend of mine recently got in touch to ask how he could find a hooping instructor to teach at his gym... It got me thinking, because there was no real easy answer, apart from search engines and telling him to post on Tribe! I thought it would be a good idea to have some kind of "central" database that people could search for, so I have started to put one together...

If UK hoopers think it will be useful, I'm happy to get it a proper domain name but for the moment it is located at:

www.ukhd.leapintohoops.co.uk

I think it would be a great way to promote hooping and definitely to promote our skills to people looking for hooping (and hopefully get more work!), as it becomes more popular. I've tried to add a couple of people that I already know of but I would love to add as many people as possible. PLEASE send me your details if you are a hoop teacher or performer via the website!

If you have any suggestions (e.g. adding a UK links page to things like regional Tribe forums), please email me via the website also.

Sunday Hoop Club - March event is cancelled! The next Sunday Hoop Club will be on 5th April.

I'm sorry to have to announce that the March Hoop Club has had to be cancelled. This is due to a date clash with my travel plans resulting in me being out of London at a time when I should have been in London.

If you have been planning to come along I apologise for any disappointment, but I hope you will come to the April Hoop Club which will be on Sunday 5th April. As this is just before Easter, we will have an Easter bunny theme!

Come and share the madness that ensures after a gap in the schedule....

Sunday Hoop Club is back!

Phew!
All the energy and angst that is the Christmas break for so many of us has finally retreated into the fading gloom of 2008.
Here we are in 2009 with all kinds of new possibilities and I'm pleased to tell you that new dates for the Sunday Hoop Club have now been confirmed.

The first is this weekend - Sunday 11th January.
Next three dates are: Sunday 1st February, Sunday 8th March and Sunday 5th April.

Looking forward to seeing old friends and making new ones.

Xmas class - Hornsey Hoop Group

Hey hoopers!

Christmas is almost here and the last Wednesday hoop class of 2008 is this week at Hornsey Parish Church hall.
There will be Xmas music and a general festive feel to this class and I have organised some extra time so we can socialise a little and share some seasonal snacks. Hope you can join us there - 7.30pm for a one hour class followed by hoop playtime!

If you can't make it then have a wonderful time during the holidays!

Hooping classes in London?

Am new to this tribe. Last night I had a dream about starting hula hooping classes, something I'd never, ever, thought about before, so I thought I'd give it a go! But I have no idea where to start.

Does anyone know where I can try hula hooping classes in London? I live South West but work Central....not free Tuesday nights.

Can't believe we are nearly in December. Finished your shopping for crimbo? Me neither...
So. In the spirit of forgetting your worries and getting happy - let's get together on Sunday 7th December for one more Sunday Hoop Club, before the year draws to a close.

Date: Sunday 7th December
Venue: Studio 1, Jacksons Lane, 269a Archway Road, London N6 5AA
Time: 2pm to 4pm

I'll bring hoops, music, enthusiasm and possibly a Christmas elf or two.

We had a fantastic time yesterday with lots of twirling, smiling people enjoying the amazing hoopspace in Studio 1 at Jacksons Lane.

Halloween Hooping in N10

Hello Hoopers.

On Wednesday 29th October, instead of my regular one hour class, we will have the hall for two hours so we can indulge in some Halloween Hooping!

This will not be a class, but a ghoulish evening of spooktacular hooping where we can twirl our way through lots of suitably haunting music. I hope to be able to decorate the surrounding a little for the occasion and have a few surprises up my spectral sleeves... Costumes, make-up and general silliness is invited and encouraged!

Admission is £5 and there will be some snacks and soft drinks. I'm also inviting folks to bring along any munchies they would like to share. This isn't a buffet, as such, but hooping is hungry work and we need to keep our strength up through the dark hours of twirling.

Mwah ha ha ha ha hhhhhhaaaaaahhhhh!

Sunday Hoop Club - 5th October 08

This year is whizzing by - lots has been going on and as the weeks go by the next Sunday Hoop Club is looming large on the calendar (well, on *my* calendar, at any rate!).

Where? Jacksons Lane, 269a Archway Road, Highgate, London N6 5AA

When? 2pm to 4pm, Sunday 5th October 2008

Why? Cuz we love hooping and want to spend two hours in a wonderful space, indulging our passion.

Cost? £5 per person (£3.50 concessions).

Sunday Hoop Club resumes in September!

Hi Everyone - can't believe August is almost over!
The year is just zipping by... which means that the next Hoop Club is looming large on the horizon.

Sunday 7th September -2pm to 4pm. £5 (£3.50 concs)
Hoops and music provided - you are welcome to bring your own hoop and music to share!

Open to all, this community hoop gathering was in hiatus for the Summer as Jacksons Lane has been closed during August, but almost as soon as the doors open, we will be there with hoops and music to share the joy of the hoop in the wonderful vaulted space that is Studio 1.

Hoopers wanted for event in Barnet - 2nd August

Hi All,
I have been contacted by someone who is running a corporate event on 2nd August in the Barnet area.
They want to include hooping as part of an array of events and activities, and are looking for a 'team' of 6-10 hoopers to perform, demonstrate, teach and run workshops/classes. You will need to take hoops for participants to use.
This is a whole day event and is as much a performance as a teaching opportunity.

If you think you would be able to do this (it clashes with the L2 Hoopgirl training in Nuneaton), then please message me for further details.

Hi all - I can't believe the weather and I'm so glad I kept my dates at Jacksons Lane so there is some shelter from the rain!

Do please join me for two hours in Studio 1, Jacksons Lane, 269a Archway Road, London N6 5AA. (http://www.jacksonslane.org.uk)
Time: 2pm to 4pm
Cost: £5 (children/concessions £3.50)

I will bring music, hoops and a sunny disposition in defiance of the weather!
Bring with you anything you will need including a hoop (if you prefer) and any music you want to share.
The cafeteria isn't always open, but there are eateries a few doors down if you are peckish.

Jacksons Lane is closed during August, so fingers crossed for good weather so we can meet at a park to be arranged.

Outdoor Hooping

Hello everyone,

I have been hooping secretly indoors for the past few months and as the weather gets nicer I am keen to move outdoors and get some fresh air!
I would feel like a bit of a dick practising on my own, and wondered if anyone ever meets up to play together in the park?
I'm not very good yet, by the way!
I hate not having a garden, I have VERY limited space in my little flat and need to be outdoors so I can throw myself around!

That's this weekend!

Hoop Club is 2-4pm - two hours to whoop it up with your hoop. Admission is £5 (concessions £3.50) which includes use of hoops and music system (you can bring your own hoop(s) - and music to share if you wish). No formal teaching but hoopers are friendly folk and you can always ask someone to show you a move! A community event, this is your chance to meet other hoopers and play in a space with a vaulted ceiling and a fully sprung floor.

Park Hoop Meet up?

Okay, so the weather this weekend looks a bit miserable, but there are many, many other weekends!
I'm not sure where all of you are based, but does anyone fancy a park meet up either in July or August? Just to get outside, hoop in some company and, hopefully, enjoy the British Summertime? I don't live in the center of London, but big open spaces I can think of are
Hyde park, the one near Russel Square, maybe St. James' or that green bit under the London Eye at Waterloo.
Any thoughts? How about the August Bank Holiday?

Global Rhythms Festival

Sharna, me: aka InnerSpin, and my ace hooping comrade Tola are going to be at the Global Rhythms Festival tomorrow at the Interchange Studio's, opposite Belsize Park tube, from 3 pm - 12 midnight. If you fancy learning something new or have something amazing to share please come along and hoop with us. We have the hoops but we are requesting the pleasure of your presence.

The event is going to be amazing, the drum jam crew and Shivani's ecstatic dance temple sessions are just fantastic. If you quote 'innerspin' at the door you'll get a special price of £20 for the full day and £10 for half a day. Trust me, it is going to be brilliant event and the money raised is going to "love is all you need" charity.

Hoopnotica collapsible hoop

I've just ordered a collapsible hoop from firetoys..really looking forward to getting it and trying it out, I am missing my hoops which are all packed away in Nottingham. I hope it arrives whilst the weather is still ok and I can get out into my local park for some hooping :)

Bank holiday weather

Just checked the weather reports for anyone who is planning to do some park hooping over the long weekend.

Saturday looks beautiful, but on Sunday it is going to rain.

* Meh. *

Monday is somewhere in between. I'm not free on Saturday, but Sunday was my favourite option until I realised it would be damp.
Park hooping on Monday, anyone?
