i love to crochet and i love to knit... the problem is i only know how to do chain stitch and knit and purl stitches... and all i can make are things that are square and rectangular shaped (i am the queen of the baby blankets, cat cozies and scarves)... patterns confuse me like crazy - i don't understand what's going on there... i'd LOVE to learn to make actual stuff like socks and sweaters and ponchos, etc... are there any LAKC meetings coming up where somebody would be willing to sit down with a big lamer like me and explain what i'm missing? i have a girlfriend who is in the exact same boat as me and we are tired of making scarves!

Re: i am SO lame
Tue, May 23, 2006 - 10:06 PMYou are NOT lame! 'Cause if you are, then that makes 3 of us-- you, your girlfriend, and me. Except that perhaps I'd be lam-ER because I only crochet-- I don't knit. So there you have it. You callin' me names?! Sheesh. I've had it with tribe. I'm gonna shut the laptop down and get back to my gazillionth scarf...
(nice to meet you, and if I figure out anthing cool to crochet I'll pass it along to you! As for LACK meetings, the sky is the limit. Put a date and location out there and they will come...nice people, too!) -

Re: i am SO lame
Wed, May 24, 2006 - 8:53 AMYeah, we havent' had one in a while. I used to be pretty good at reading instructions. I'm a little out of practice though.
One thing I used to do when I was kid and learning was to use some throwaway yarn and try to practice. You'd eventually figure out what you were doing wrong and start doing it right, provided you read the instructions.

(?) to get together and have a kibitz session! I'll happily show folks what I know, and fake what I don't know.. (I'm an obsessive sock knitter - sweater knitter... hmmmmmm better justr make that knitter!)

Re: i am SO lame
Wed, May 24, 2006 - 10:21 AMI can read patterns! The (most kind!) lady that taught me to crochet stressed the importance of being able to read patterns. It's really not hard. Just a key with abbreviations. If we ever get together, I'll make a few extra copies of what other more advanced crocheters thought important enough to pass along to me.
