So does anyone have ideas on where (like a coffee shop or a park or something) in L.A. and when us knit and crochet peeps could get together and share and help and just have fun?
I live in Silverlake; work in Miracle Mile area and honestly, Santa Monica just doesn't work for me. I'm thinking somewhere more central L.A such as Hollywood, West Hollywood, Downtown.
I am think a more informal setting and get together type thing than a "yarn" shop.
I am also thinking it could start out as (just an example) the 3rd Wednesday of each month from say 6:30(ish) to 8:30(ish).
It also doesn't have to be the same place every time... mix it up a little and make it interesting.
Finally, I really don't know L.A. well enough to suggest any places. I lived here as a kid, moved to the Bay Area when I was 14, and just moved back 1 1/2 years ago and sadly have not been out near as much as I should have or would have liked.
Others thoughts?

Re: somewhere to get together???
Sun, November 20, 2005 - 8:45 AMI'm game, but my place is a bachellor-- therefore there isn't room for more than, say-- two or three people! So if someone can decide on a place and if I'm not flying, I'm there.
I crochet-- very basic thus far-- and will be happy to teach anyone who is interested in learning what I know.

Re: somewhere to get together???
Mon, November 21, 2005 - 11:19 AMThe 3rd wed is o.k., save for this month... obviously it is already past... (;-> ) 21st of dec might be crazy, and at the same time a good crazy... what about maybe meeting at Union Station??? its down town... most of the Metro trains start/end there... ?? I'm in San Bernardino, so I don't know lala land very well, however I'm more than happy to 'meet-up' with others when it comes to Knitting... -

Re: somewhere to get together???
Mon, November 21, 2005 - 11:45 AMI'm up for it-- if my December work schedule permits. I'll find out what it looks like in the next few weeks. Then I can trade my trips around a bit. -

Re: somewhere to get together???
Mon, November 21, 2005 - 12:41 PMUnion Station sounds interesting.
FYI... the 3rd Wed. was just an example that popped into my head while typing....
We should figure out days that work best for the most people that are interested. -

Re: somewhere to get together???
Mon, November 21, 2005 - 4:04 PMI am also interested - and I can offer my house in Elysian Park - that is if everyone is NOT allergic to cats or dogs. I also may have a location in Eagle Rock if that is not too far for you guys - let me know. -

Sun, November 27, 2005 - 11:48 AMKashmir
I know that I live essentially right around the corner from you here in Sliverlake so the location would be very easy for me. One question though... would you want to make your place available on an ongoing basis? I would hate for us to set up something like this and it become an imposition. Besides I think it would be fun to try different places.... What do you folks think?
On a totally different note.... I was up in Marin (just north of San Francisco) and my husband's father gave me a 25% off coupon for Michael's. I went absolutely crazy!!!! I only bought yarn, I put back almost 1/2 of what I'd orginally selected, and even after 25% off... I spent $450. I have yarn for DAAAAAYS. And at Michael's there is actually a fairly decent selection of some nicer yarns and less than what it would cost at a "yarn" store.
Watch out, I'm gonna be making scarves, shawls, and hopefully ponchos for everyone I know and even people I don't know. -

Re: somewhere to get together???
Sun, November 27, 2005 - 10:27 PMFantastic, Gab! Looks like you're going to be busy for the next few... years! I'd love to see your Show and Tell after having made some of your things.
Where did he get the 25% off coupon? -

Re: somewhere to get together???
Mon, November 28, 2005 - 5:59 PMHi Ladies!
My place is open whenever you like. I agree that maybe we should change it up from time to time. So I am volunteering my place and I have another studio available in Eagle Rock as well - so whatever everyone decides is fine with me. Let's do it!

Re: somewhere to get together???
Tue, November 29, 2005 - 8:49 AMThe coupon was up in Marin (north of San Francisco) in the Newspaper. It was for 6am - 9 am on the day after T-giving only. Don't know if something similar was done down here.

Re: somewhere to get together???
Tue, November 29, 2005 - 7:15 PMI am completely interested in getting together. Wednesdays are actually bad for me, but I could do Thursdays or Tuesdays as of right now. That might change, cuz I am starting a couple of things in January.
Anyway, I don't mind commuting to Eagle Rock. Sounds good, although if we want to mix it up a bit, I like coffee shops for stitch n bitch. There are a few in the Santa Monica area that cater to this kind of thing and I am sure there are some in the Silverlake or Hollywood area that do the same. If those of you who live in that area want to scope out a couple of different coffee shops, I'd bet we could get one to agree to let us use their space one night a month. It's not that often to be that much bother for them and we'll probably be buying stuff while we're there anyway. Maybe we can do the first one at Kashmirs (thanks for the offer!) and then branch out to a firm location from there. Also 7 pm or later start time would be better for those of us who have to travel across town for it.
December works for me if it works for everyone else. -

Re: somewhere to get together???
Wed, November 30, 2005 - 10:59 AMThursdays are o.k. for me... sorta... I'll be commuting by train from San Bernardino... so any where close to a train station (be it one of the metro lines or the metrolink) is better for me... unless I can be picked up and dropped off at the station...

Wed, November 30, 2005 - 12:02 PMTuesdays and Thursdays are bad for me because of class. I can also offer up my place in the Valley.

Re: somewhere to get together???
Wed, November 30, 2005 - 12:03 PMAt the moment I cannot commit to Tuesdays or Thursdays Nor weekends. This will change in either January or February, depending on when I decide to leave my "2nd" job (retail... they called and asked me to come back for "holiday"). Definately by Feb 15 my schedule will be much more open and I will be able to easily adjust to others schedules.
I think December may be a little difficult and soon anyway.
Auntie Pita... we will figure something out for you I'm sure. Elysian park is not all that far from Union Station downtown. -

Re: somewhere to get together???
Wed, November 30, 2005 - 12:08 PMOk, so far we have 3 potential locations, and hopefully people have ideas of other places such as coffee shops.
It seems most people cannot do Tuesdays
Thursdays seem a little rough for people as well.
Wednesday is good for most but not all.
No one has mentioned Monday or Friday yet?
Both Monday and Friday are good for me right now.

Re: somewhere to get together???
Wed, November 30, 2005 - 12:16 PMHere are some suggestions for times for the first "get-together"
2nd week of December...
Mon
Wed?
Fri
3rd week of January
Mon
Tue?
Wed?
Thur?
Fri
Please let's get a concensus and figure out what is going to work best for the most people. I can't wait.
2 more quickie things....
1) shall we tell others we know(even outside of tribe)... at this point it seems we have about 7 people... how many do we want/have the capacity for? THOUGHTS???
2) since this is going to be around "dinner" time... shall we each bring "snacks" of some sort? I think since we will be comming from work making something wouldn't be realistic but a quick stop at wherever and we could each pick something up to bring. THOUGHTS??? -

Re: somewhere to get together???
Wed, November 30, 2005 - 6:41 PMFor December, all the days you mention work. We may want to keep it small at first and then let people know as we progress.
I don't have school in January, so all the days work for me, but generally, it'll be Mon., Wed., Fri. for most of the year. That means I have to get a project. I haven't had one in years. Dammit!
Snacks sound like a great idea, especially if people come after work.

Re: somewhere to get together???
Thu, December 1, 2005 - 5:33 PMHi Everyone!
M,W, F are great for me as well. As far as capacity - if we are indeed meeting at my place I have a large living room that will fit about 8-10 people. At the studio in Eagle Rock we could fit up to 20 but it won't be available until January due to some water damage that's in the process of being fixed. I really like the idea of bringing stuff to share - even if it's just to nosh on while we work. Also - I just want everybody to know that I have cats and dogs - they won't be in on the fun, but they do live there and it makes some people allergic - so FYI. I am really excited and looking forward to meeting everyone!

Re: somewhere to get together???
Thu, December 1, 2005 - 10:12 PMThis is sounding good. I can attend if I'm not flying. If I'm attending, I'm more than happy to pick up and drop off anyone who needs a ride to and from public transportation. It would be my pleasure. And bringing something is great, but if it's problematic for ya, let me know and I'll grab or cook up twice my share-- the important part is making it if you can. Our 1st 'LACK'(?!! LOL)meeting is coming to fruition! -

Re: somewhere to get together???
Fri, December 2, 2005 - 12:05 PMGab, Kashmir, how about one of you guys host for December, and I host for January. I also have a large living room and can fit a reasonable amount of people. -

Re: somewhere to get together???
Fri, December 2, 2005 - 12:31 PMFor various reasons I am not currently able to host our soiree. However, come summer time, I will be more than happy to host one. I have a rather large back yard with multiple levels that can fit a whole lot of people. I also have a HUGE avacado tree in my back yard that gives a lot of shade and since I don't like avacados.... if it is producing which it usually does in the summer... people can have some. (Also, I have a fig tree that has the sweetest and juciest figs ever and I'll consider ;) sharing some of those with you all as well)
