I've found a project for Burning Man that Im going to crochet some leaves for. I thought some of you might be interested in doing this as well. The project is an art tree with tons and tons of crochet or knit leaves that are not tied off - so participants can unravel them letting the yarns loose in the wind.

The website has more information on the specifics of the leaves and instructions for making both knit and crochet leaves. The creator of this tree is not specific about color of leaf - she will take any color and use them as needed. There is a request to use basic yarns and not ones that shed fibers. Eyelash, Chenille and other specialty yarns ALL shed - the wind just strips off the little fuzzy bits.

The website for the project is: www.pokiedot.com

If you are interested in making a leaf (or a number of them) - I will be happy to collect them and send them all up to San Francisco in one shot. Meaning - I will pay the shipping costs. Otherwise, instructions on where to send the leaves are on the website.

I found a great and easy pattern on the flip side of the Caron Simply Soft Brites label. They are turning out beautiful! But I have a guy in mind who actually wants me to crochet him a scarf. Now he's a burner, so wild colors are great, but I can't see him wearing the lacy pattern that seems to me so feminine. Anyone have a more 'manly' scarf pattern for me to crochet?

I am going to look for casual Coffee shops, Juice shops, and/or Pizza type places. Although we are getting together at dinner time and we will each want to eat something I don't want to set up a place where we wind up getting distracted by eating rather than knitting. I am also going to look for somewhere that won't be too loud from all the other patron/ music noise around us.

So far I've found two friends who are interested, and I'm opening the invitation to anyone else who would like to join a fun, intimate knitting circle with some hip, progressive-minded people of any knitting skill level (crocheters welcome, too!) We'll be having our first meeting next Monday, Feb. 27th at 7pm in West LA, near La Cienega & Pico. This may not be the regular meeting time or place, I figure that's one of the things we'll discuss at our first circle. Send me a Tribe msg if you're interested, even if you can't make it to the first meeting.

*AFTER THE 1ST MEETING*, I propose that we standardize the time and week of the month. Please add your comments here for what works and what doesn't to meet your schedule, and what you think of the following.

My thoughts:
Here on tribe someone steps up to the bat and claims to host the following month's meeting. That month's Host states the locale: either his or her home (or someone else's), or another place such as a coffee house where we can gather.

Meeting times: 7-9pm, unless otherwise stated here in this tribe.

We could state a regular week, such as the *2nd week of each month*, and the month's Host determines weather it be Mon., Tues., Wed., or Thurs. night of that week-- depending on what works for the Host first and foremost, and anyone who gives their input here on tribe, of course.

On that Monthly Meeting Thread, if you have special needs such as transportation, just post and maybe we can all work together and help ya out. The Host can throw out there what sort of goodies might need to be contributed.

Each participant takes it upon themselves to contact the Host with address inquiries if it obviously shouldn't be advertised here on such a public tribe. Otherwise the Host simply posts the locale and directions for us to mapquest it.

How does this sound? 2nd week of each month? Mon.- Thurs. nights from 7-9pm? Hey-- this is just *my* input. The 1st and last week of the months are difficult for my flying schedule, and the 3rd Mon. of each month I have a Long Beach Meeting for Stitches From the Heart.

I live in Silverlake; work in Miracle Mile area and honestly, Santa Monica just doesn't work for me. I'm thinking somewhere more central L.A such as Hollywood, West Hollywood, Downtown.

I am think a more informal setting and get together type thing than a "yarn" shop.

I am also thinking it could start out as (just an example) the 3rd Wednesday of each month from say 6:30(ish) to 8:30(ish).

It also doesn't have to be the same place every time... mix it up a little and make it interesting.

Finally, I really don't know L.A. well enough to suggest any places. I lived here as a kid, moved to the Bay Area when I was 14, and just moved back 1 1/2 years ago and sadly have not been out near as much as I should have or would have liked.

Does anybody here have good advice or want together to teach a sister how to knit in the double cirular needle way? I've been hearing it's the new way to avoid using double pointed needles (which I don't use either). So of course the project I really really want to do right now requires them (arm warmers) and although I've been following the online directions, it just doesn't seem right.

Does this group intend to get together for stitch and bitch? Cuz I'd love that!
