I'd find it valuable to hear how others feel about this; do we generally want to not move on an issue/decision until the group unanimously agrees, or do we move with the majority?

Re: unanimous concensus versus moving on the majority

This are my personal thoughts about Unanimous concensus and moving on a majority vote ...
mixed feelings, I was thinking about it a couple of days ago. I have different points of view about it, and I have learning and discoveries to make in my evolution around it.
I think unanimous concensus before moving to act is ideal; I used to wholeheartedly believe in concensus before acting, but to be honest, where I'm at right now with this group, is to generally move with a majority when people have been heard and consideration has been given. I've seen much indecision and paralysis of movement when insistence has been that all agree ...
and I've seen people abuse the power of veto, holding up how a group wants to move because they can, because they can get a lot of energy that way ...
of course it's valid for people to really feel opposed to something and be definite about that.
And each issue is unique ... I don't believe rules can be made.
anyway, my personal feeling here for this tribe is that if issues arise that are important enough to make a decision about, and are voted on, to give space to all points of view, and generally go with the clear majority ...
I'm not conclusive about this, I can already think/feel plenty of situations where it just won't feel so cut and dried, so anyway I'm glad I'm not alone to think/feel about this and make decisions about it.
And hey, nothing may even come up!
By the way, this is my personal view about it. if I become moderator, I'll act/not act on what the majority wants here.
Unless it's not clear cut and we decide - not to decide - or something.
oh boy
thanks for listening,
Semele

Re: unanimous concensus versus moving on the majority
Sun, July 5, 2009 - 11:17 AMSemele, I don't believe in consensus. I have never seen it work, at least up to this point I haven't. We can't even agree on a moderator unanimously let alone cone to some unanimous decision about how to run this place. -
