Event? Meetup? Offensive Operation?

Ok, my home base will be Camp Beaver Knows Best at 3:00 and Bonneville! Would anyone be interested in doing a meetup or operation? I had a blast last time with the rave-crashing and I would love to do it again! Let me know when is good and we can set up a day and time. We host after-school snack time every weekday at 3:00-5:00pm. We can even just organize a day to meet then.

It's getting close to that time! Time to think of new ways to aggressively spread the love across the Playa! Time to dust off, start making or pack your camo pink and green. Time for a mission: recruit two new members each! That's right, I want to see two new members for each current soldier. Also, it looks like I may be taking over the in-charge-ness from Love Greg this year, so when I have a location for my theme camp (FRIDAY!) I will let everyone know and we can arrange some sort of pink and green cocktail party or something. Sound good? Hop to it! Oh, and SOUND OFF!

I know it's early to start thinking about next year, but things like camp locations, greeting/ volunteering shifts etc. need to be figured out early! Ok, ok, yeah right. I am just excited super early! (Plus I will be away from home for 4 months starting in January and out of the country in July) I REALLY want to get this group together this year. Coordinated dances, active recruitment, hug invasions, mutant vehicles, base camp... Ohhh... the possibilities are ENDLESS!

well i think i joined this army 2 years ago and i have yet to complete a mission. I must apoligize. year 1 i couldnt find you. and last year, i was all set to meet up for the friday night mission when i met the cutest little Irish boy and i just couldnt leave him until 6 am... so my apologies to the love army but i did spread some love in my own way friday night... and hey there is always next year, someday i will join you all on a mission.

Pre-Playa Prep
Soldiers should be in the Love Army uniform, which is green & pink, camouflage & hearts. Chances are you're crafting a theme-based green costume anyhow, so just pink it up a bit :)

Staging Area
We will meet at Tall Grass at 11PM on Friday August 31st.

March to Victory
You will receive your mission and any necessary munitions. Then, for one glorious hour, we will ATTACK Black Rock with a barrage of hugs, kisses and so much more. It will be lovely chaos. That is why we shall prevail.

This is essentially where we were last year and, some say, the sweetest damn spot on the playa. Our shizzle includes:

Kiosk™ Check Stop: Pulling over tipsy cyclists and making sure they blow over the limit

L.R.D.G. Missions - Feel our love (or else)

So, what kind of missions can we run with a pick-up truck equipped with a trailer hitch, twin water cannon w/ 40 gal capacity, and room for loads of extra equipment? I have listed some of the ideas I have so far on my blog:

In summary, they include human target practice, offering a misting booth during the heat of the day, donating batteries to those who need power (I will be bringing about 2,000 batteries of various sizes to the event), and raiding (i.e., hosing down) those camps /people that both want and need to be raided.

I also thought some sort of trailer with an oasis theme would be fun to tow about the playa.

Finally, we could support the folks over at Animal Control camp with a mobile command post and "cage" for the "captured" animals.

What other ideas are out there? Also, how many Love Army members are located in the PA / NJ/ NY area that would be willing to assist with construction of the aforementioned vehicle?

The Long Range Desert Group reporting for duty, Sir!

Greetings all!

Major Mallet here to announce that the Black Rock City Long Range Desert Group (BRC-LRDG) is now forming and will offer assistance to the glorious troopers of the Love Army! The BRC-LRDG is a mutant vehicle project in which we will convert a modern pick-up truck to resemble a raiding vehicle used by the original LRDG during the WWII. Of course, we will be replacing the machine guns with high-powered water cannon (40 gal capacity - 60' range). The truck will be painted in desert pink and olive - the original LRDG camouflage pattern but also, paradoxically, the colors of love (the theme of Love Army) and of nature (the theme of Burning Man 2007).

I have conferred with your fearless leader (in person, no less!) and he assures me that the Love Army could use the services of our fine organization. Please check out the "under construction" BRC-LRDG blog and help me come up with some more missions for the vehicle. I am based in Northeast PA and am interested in meeting any other Love Army folks from the area. Looking forward to meeting all of you on the Playa in 2007!

hello love army! my freind and i were so inspired by the love army this year in the desert, that we have started a cult unit out here on the east coast. we live in asheville, nc, and so far have carried out two love missions, mostly invading partys and such. on the playa, we were given love army patches, which we made into stickers, and so far have given out over 300 of them. they are popping up all over town, i see them on passing cars, and on random walls/ windows in town. ... i hope your patch was in no way intended on not being copied!!.... we also blew it up to a 8x10 and copied onto iron on transfers, then put them on the back of our camo shirts. so far we are a group of about 7 people, and growing.. i was sure that it would be okay to spread the love, and never realized that there was this extended cult family on tribe.net (this is my first time ever seeing tribe.net) i thought i would have to wait until next year to meet other soldiers... but here you are! how do i get to the area where missions are posted/ received? this is such a beautiful thing...

Wow! Love Army 2006 was simply amazing. We had literally hundreds of people come to HQ and there were so many fantastic/crazy-assed missions being carried out that I couldn't keep track.

Thanks to each and every one of you who participated. The enthusiasm and creativity demonstrated was astounding. I'll be posting photos, but really want to encourage everyone to do the same (especially of Love Army in action in the field).

Finally, the Love Army concept of guerilla participation to continue it's evolution, so keep tuned in soldiers as this is just the beginning of the revolution!!

in honour of our no longer attending rondog, we have a new mission on our hands--
operation tourist. not really so love army related- just fun related. we need someone with a lippy and badass sense of humour to head up a walking tour of burningman pointing out the obvious ie - burners in their natural habitat etc..
we dress tacky and have millions of old broken cameras and pretend to take pictures of everything - kind of like a mobile spectator camp - [[remember them?]

Hi. I joined quite some time ago, but haven't gotten around to getting a mission, and i'm leaving in less than 48 hours.
Can I just come to the camp and introduce myself, and figure something from there?

i'm a BM Virgin from Winnipeg. Playa name is dr tongue (also my dj name), at night I will be a super hero called 'Fuck Man'
you'll recognize me with my green cape with a pink 'F' on the back, and my sexy white leotard stockings. although i'll be wearing this later in the week. i also have some beer tab armour (with coif) which i'll also be wearing on more casual evenings ;)

I'll be arriving Sunday on early arrival permission with the Black Rock International Burner Hostel (my camp).

Mission - recruit lovers!

Alright, here is our mission. Our being my wife April, and I. We will be enlisting recruits as we adventure around the playa, or while we are at or fort located at 4:20 and Brave/Chance. We will challenge the Love Army enlistees to brave the giant hop scotch we have created. With a 20 ft x 7 ft green camo tarp and a bunch of pink camo tape we have created a very challenging mobile version of hop scotch. As a new enlistee advances in the game so does their rank. IE if an enlistee were to hop scotch to their very best and advance to number five in the game before disqualifying, they would receive a rank of Sergeant, equivalent to an E5.

We are manufacturing about 100 rank insignia to give to new recruits and any of the ranking members that qualify with us. ;) If you would prefer a phat pink camo bandana w/ hearts, help us in our mission. We are looking for brave new hopefuls not afraid of a little missionary love.

I have reviewed the strategy for inviting more positive essential care development at HQ and have come to the the following conclusion:

We have no strategy for inviting more positive essential care development!

In fact, I do not know if we have an HQ!

We must prepare for the onslaught of loving hippy-ravers intent on world unification! They will expect a challenging training program and drills, drills, drills!! They will be disappointed if they do not sign their soul away!

NEWBIE TO THE TRIBE HAS MISSION/GAME for the playa!

I posted this on a bunch of tribes and was then alerted to the existence of this one.. I agreed that this is the PERFECT place to introduce such a thing.

On a phone conversation with my boi Seda, we have come up with a major contribution to the playa this year. Introducing
Love-Em-Up team tag!!! sounds ridiculous to me, but whatever. here's the schematicals. It begins with a team of three or more lovin folk. they run up to some desert dweller and loudly or not so loudly, creatively ask is they can gooey center the hell out of them, [for those who are not familiar with the gooey center, you get one person, put em in the middle of a really mushy, lovin, cuddlin hug, and voila! you've got the gooey center.], and oooohm em to death at the same time. that person is then a member of the team and you continue on across the desert. the goal then becomes [because we're playing BIG] to get a five
hundred person ohhhhhm
with a group of like, one, to ten at the center of that circle of incredible lovin goodness. the goal of every single gooey center opportunity, is to instill the intention of authentically loving, opening, blazing that person in the middle as close as we can to making the top of their heads pop the heaven open! add the collective ohmm to that and can you IMAGINE what kind of lunatic craziness could result from the amount of intentional, positive energy being poured into a single human being at one time in the middle of a space of already hellishly high vibrations like the playa?!?
WUFF.
It would be nice to end up with roving bands of love-em-ups all over the playa, converging at parties and eventually getting big enough to surround an entire dance floor. woooow
Also, we could organize groups to go out to the greeters stations and gooeycenter as many playa virgins as possible. The ultimate intro to your first burn!!

Has anyone created a Love Army Flag yet? I know there is no official camp, but last year unofficially there was at least a base of operations.

If someone can supply the graphics for for the Love Army logo from last year, I will get a flag made at the Flag shop here in Vancouver. Drop me note at hlew@yahoo.com if you have access to the logo in JPEG format at 300 DPI resolution. It takes about a week to have it made, so if this is going to happen we need to do this soon. I am leaving on August 24 as I have an appointment in Portland before Burning Man.

Love Army HOLLYWOOD SIGN

One of the bestest missions is a "Love Army" sign in the playa like the famous "Hollywood" one (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hollywood_sign). This will be a key operation to establish our fight for luv at Black Rock.

Now there are several options, from making a scale replica to re-interpreting the concept. Here are some (obvious) parameters:
1/ It should be big (letters at least 6'2" since that's my height and I'm an egomaniac)
2/ It should be extremely visible both day and night. a) because that's the point b) to avoid death or dismemberment by collision
3/ It should be rain, wind and alien proof (oh they exist, just ask "Larry Harvey")
4/ It should be erected, insterted and withdrawn as per BM guidelines (whatever the _____ they are).

Beyond that we'd like someone to take on this high profile task. We know it's not easy, but gosh will it be rewarding. A couple of ideas we passed around were:
- Making a giant "L O V E" Hollywood styles and a little "army"
- Building a frame for each word and then covering it with that white camo material or similar (and lighting the hell out of the whole deathtrap)
- Doing a photoshop version of the sign in the Hollywood hills and projecting it onto a really big screen

ANYHOW, we really want someone motivated and creative to take adopt this baby. Please, it's cute and lonely.

Anyone who is bringing Pink Zinc or other gel or liquid stuff -- put that in your check-in luggage. If it's in your carry on, under the new rules you will have to throw it out when you get to the gate. Also, they are searching a lot of checked and carry-on bags by hand now so be careful with anything else you are bringing to the Playa.

Organize, promote and run a Tickle Fight Club. One-on-one ticklish person battles that go on until "uncle" is said or pantsare peed (ideally both). >>Maybe we don't know if this one has been taken because of the first rule of Tickle Fight Club... But COME ON this one is great.

2/ PLEASE CORPS (1st Round Orphan)
An early-in-the-week Love Army assault team armed with tools and a willingness to help camps set up...in the name of love.>>There has been interest in this, but nobody has taken it under their flak jacket wing. Think of how amazing it would be if a Love Army crew helped you pitch your tent?

3/ BIKE DECORATION STATION - FLAGS & CAMO
These options can be combined or done individually out of the comfort of your own camp or even a mobile operation.
- Option a/ Mass produce and distribute Love Army bike flags
- Option b/ Create a station to decorate bikes in all manner of pink & green (i.e. using camo tape

4/ ART CAR CHECKPOINT
Set up an official checkpoint (ideally with one of those nifty gates). Inspect art cars and passengers to make sure they have enough love aboard. If not, issue love immediatley (i.e. hugs, big lipstick kisses, special Love Army cocktails, pink/green hearts that you tape on artcars, etc.).

5/ VOLUNTEER FORCES
If you are volunteering (which you should) do it with a fellow soldier and represent in Love Army uniforms, spreading luv as you sling coffee, hand out ice, greet or whatever wonderful thing you're doing.

6/ PRESS CORPS
Write an entertaining/controversial article from a Love Army perspective for one of the fine daily papers such as Piss Clear or, if they won't take you, Black Rock Gazette.

7/ COSTUME AMBUSH
Load up on a bunch of camo/lovey accessories, locate the costume-less and (with some form of permission) instantly transform them into fab Love Army soldiers (honey pots are a great place to do this btw).

8/ MERCENARY SERVICES
Put up notices that you are a 'paid' assasin. Black Rock civilians hire you to track down a target and eliminate them. Forms of elimination can include: water gun take-out, hug/kiss attack, etc (make sure the target will be game of course). After the dirty deed is done, make sure to declare your Love Army allegiance.

9/ RED ROVER ARMAGEDDON
Organize the biggest Love Army VS. BURNINGMAN Red Rover showdown the playa has ever seen.

10/ OPERATION THUNDERKISS
Dress up in disguise and sign yourself and a buddy up for a fight at THUNDERDOME. Then instead of beating the snot out of each other, you reveal your Love Army costumes and MAKE-OUT. (Please disregard if no Thunderdome this year).

Big news: our first missions have been imagined. In addition to generally plastering the playa with LOVE, we're going to run some organized (and not-so organized) missions to spread our mandate. We encourage all Love Army members to join us in carrying out one of the missions below, or (perhaps even better?) to imagine some missions of your own! Okay this is a very late call to arms. I need all you soldiers out there to throw down with your craft making skills. The project you ask? Well makins signs of course.
What type of signs? Street signs...lots an lots o' street signs. Preferibbly (yes i know my spellings terrible!) out of a sturdy enough material that they won't melt in the sun or disintagrate in the rain, and not to big so they won't blow away in a wind storm. Remember, m.o.o.p. is grounds for dishonoral discharge. I suggest old plastic tempary parking signs. those things are just laying all over the place......
What should you put on them? whatever you want.... love this, love that? I'm sure you'll figure it out....

Love Army sun protection

Hi guys,

I am downunder and I can bring up to BM pink (either fluro hot pink or light pink) and green zinc cream to put on people's noses/lips for sun protection. I plan on bringing lots.

Being in the sunburnt country with no ozone layer, growing up here we put think white or whatever colour we can get our hands on, zinc cream to give 100% protection, funky and with a purpose.

Is this cool? I am a second time burner but Love Army newbie.

Soldiers!

Operation Love Army is going smashingly! In fact, I guarantee it's going to be beyond awesome (bawesome if you will). Recruits have accepted/concocted some dangerous, but brilliant missions. But for those of you who are still have yet to mobilize here's what you can do this very minute to make Love Army that much more...bawesome:

1/ MAKE YOUR COSTUME
In case you missed it our official colors are pink and green. Special Love Army Identi-Fires will be issued in the desert, but I can't explain the tingly thrill of meeting a new brother/sister in the colors of love. So make sure you dress the part. In fact, maybe someone could start a thread with costume ideas and pictures (HINT HINT).

2/ TAKE ON A MISSION
Sure, a real tank covered in pink fun fur floated inches above the playa by a heart-shaped balloon would be amazing. But a) that idea has been done to death b) it's not what you do but that you do it. In other words, an army of lovers contributing in their own way on their own terms is beautiful. So if you're doing something cool, share it and if you need help, you can get it.

3rd yr at BM, want to stay w/ a camp. Hopefully LA 06

So here is the deal, I've stayed w/ the Heebee Jeebee Healers the last 2 years, but this year, I'm bringing a friend who has never done anything like BM and he cant afford the almost $400 camp dues (ouch). I would like to have my tent in a place w/ a common camp, meet new ppl, bond, tell stories, etc..
So Love Army seems more like a loose grouping of peeps spreading the love and not a centralized camp, or am I mistaken ? Otherwise, I'd love to join LA 2006 !

i was reading the Love Army web site (www.lovearmy.org) and under the Enlist Today section it says to send your 'approximate numbers' in the email to join...

am i dense? cuz i have no idea what they mean by that?!!

i wrote in 777 - for gettin' lucky in LOVE!

uhhh =)) also, im a virgin burner who wants to participate someway, somehow, but i think i might need a lil bit more direction on how to do so. so far, the missions posted hav me a little confused...

Possible New Mission

Here's something that popped into my head the other day:

Make 4 sets of cards, each set with one letter from the word LOVE. On the backside, each set will have part of a message. Pass these cards out to random people. In order to read the message, they'll need to find 3 other cards that help spell out LOVE. The message on the back may say something like, "All we need is LOVE. Help spread it! Pass these cards to 4 strangers. Hug them. Kiss them. Love them!"

This task will create interaction between strangers. New friends will be made. Love will sweep the playa! : )

There's a moop factor here so it may be best to attach a string to each card so people can wear them around their necks. They'd be more visible to other card-holders this way and less likely to fall to the ground.

Think it'd work?

unregenerate love

Hey ya love people,

I love the ideas that are being floated in this cult. As soon as some of my other playa-side commitments are clarified, I hope to offer my man-powers to a Love Army mission, as member of a love platoon, or a pleasure phalanx, or a squadron of silliness. In the interim, let me share a performance project that I created for the playa, on the theme of . . . you guessed it . . . love.

The project is a rebirthing ritual (I use this phrase loosely) entitled, Unregenerate Love. It's a three part event in which my wife and I call an "embryo" to join our family of fabulous freaks, then we flirt, fuck, conceive a love child, and in the end bless him/her. The words on page do not capture the fun of the performance, since the ritual involves marking out a sacred space, dancing, portentous gestures, noisy clamor, eye-smiles, laughter . . . oh yes, and coitus. No don't say ewwwww! It's family friendly fucking. My wife and I were unregenerately loving last month at Xara Dulzara (the local San Diego pre-burn festival) bringing our friends to tears -- some of laughter; some of gratitude.

We'll be wandering around the playa, here and there, now and then, offering love and blessings to whoever is willing to risk the karma of receiving love and blessings in this form. No guarantees! I'm sure we'll set up around the Love Army home base for a while, sharing our love with y'all in an appropriately freakish manner.
