hello to the members, and welcome to the newcomers. I'm back here to ask how others are finding their tribes and personal networking? is all going as well as you wanted, or do you find being on tribe a little more tedious than before? is it the sheer volume of information that is tribe? I ask this because I notice a change in me, and am not so enamored of this platform for advertising my interests and events. I
've also come to feel that overall my meanderings are incredibly, disappointingly mediocre. And that I probably don't have much to offer to the bd community. And this is maybe what makes this Lucytribe viable... the very ordinariness of it and this person. I won't be doing any big
events in the future, I really dont know yet what I will be doing in this regard.
One thing though... I have a vision ofwhat I want for this dance, and how I can take it to lots of women in Tucson. And I see this in a holistic way, how it somehow ties in with how I recover, how I live my life, even in the small ways of day to day living. This is wht this dance is for me; and this is the core of how I started loving; this dance long ago, and how I need to get back to it now.
I've lost a lot this past year and a half, lost some close relationships, lost my eye, and then.... I was given new relatioships, new friends, and got to keep most of my friends and family from the old days.
And this is what maybe this Lucy tribe is about? we have all lost somethings, have all gained somethings, have all had to go back to square one, and start over. And we have all been very sad, and other times been happy.. and maybe that is what gives meaning to this tribe.. I don't know.
But the beauty is that my life is not unique, and I take comfort in that.
Iwould far rather lose my eye, or any other body part, than to lose a loved one. And I've known folks who have had such loss these past couple of years, and their courage boggles my mind.
So, today, I say, hooray for the mundaneness of every day life. Each day will eventually add up to something...

Lucy is back; should this tribe continue?

oh, to have had to ignore my own little tribe. I want to honor all of you for still being here, even when I'm gone. Cuz thats the main thing abut this tribe, to share your stuff too. But these past few months, I have wondered if this tribe is worth keeping going, what is the pont of my starting this? I almost deleted it a few times, but at this juncture, still have things to say and share about the cancer, and so I will keep this going.
I see we have new events here, and one of Shervin's lovely poems... yeah, it's erotic, that's his thing, but he writes in such a tasteful way.
So, I'm back in Tucson, you can read more about that on my profile. I'm getting a divorce, and it's realy tight financially right now, but isn't that how it is for eveyrone? I h ave our son with me, so I want him to be happy. Our new place is wonderful, and there is room for teaching small classes, which is about all I am up to.
The left eye needs surgery, and the insurance turned down the dr.s request. I should have had this last Jan. but now that I'm in town, I will be seeing her more often, so we can build up some more evidence that I need this surgery. I've really been having problems with it, esp. the headaches, but since I have to work, I just pretty much ignore it, I have to.
the right eye, the real one, has a cataract... When I started seeing floaters in that eye again, I went into panic mode, thinking it was another tumor... I had lots of floaters as the first tumor grew. I'm relieved that these floaters aren't anything terribly serious. But what the hell is going on with my eyes? I never had problems with them before... it hasn't even been 2 years since I had the left eye removed, and now the one good one is messing up.
So, otherwise, I'm happy. IT's great to be back in Tucson, to be in this heat, to watch the storms roll in, to sweat lke a stuck pig. Cuz it means, I"M HOME...
I hope to reconnect with my Tucson dance community, which I haven't done yet. one thing at a time.

MECDA Fall Festival of Music & Dance - Nov. 1

Hello Dancers,

The MECDA chapter is now taking reservations for performance spots on the festival stage. We will have ongoing entertainment from 10:30am to 5:00pm - that's a lot of dancing - come be part of it!

Soloists 5 minutes
Duet/Trio 10 minutes
Troupes 4+ 15 minutes

There will also be 7 drop-in workshops presented by instructors from throughout the state. Please check here for more info:
www.levantalsonora.com

We also need people to volunteer to help with admissions, stage managing and workshop helpers - this can be just a 1 or 2 hour stint during your day and will be greatly appreciated. It takes a LOT more than the 4 members of the MECDA chapter board to run an event like this!

To reserve a spot and/or volunteer please email president@levantalsonora.com.

Thanks,
Mahin

Seeing you;
The sensation

Touching,
Gently,
Those shoulders,
The tentative fetish creation

Smelling you
The aroma of your passion fruit
And its secret taste of the creation

Whispering you
The hush-hush song of
Attraction and devastation

Love&respect

Greetings to all of you dear folks on this tribe!!! I posted another bitty blog on my personall space so I don't have to repeat myself. All is okay, I had some tests done, and there are NO CANCER cells growing!!! woo hoo!!! (and they said a colon cleanse wouldn't work).. I really think all the supplements I've been taking has built up my immune system, and eating lots of fiber flushes any of those nasty cells out BEFORE they have a chance to find eachother in my body, and start hangin out, then next thing you know, they have taken over the whole dang body.
My marriage is ending, and I will be going back to Tucson to be with my family and get all my medical care. I am very grateful for the almost 20-year-run hubby and I had. Now I know what people mean when they say "we just grew apart"--- they probably couldn't stand another minute with the other, and were not about to trash the other person to the rest of the world. We were meant to get together and raise a huge heap of kids, not all of them ours, and now, our youngest is a young man now, and I guess our purpose has been fulfilled. And I have no regrets.
For me, by gosh, if I'm going to be fighting for my life, I want to be with people who LIKE me, never mind LOVE me. "Like" is good enough for me. And I want to be closer to my family, in the Tucson area.
I already have a couple of private classes set up, nice and relaxed, nothing too overwhelming for me. Idon't plan to get back into the dance scene down there too much, just once in a while, IF possible.
So, here I am, with changes all around me, no idea what will happen. And I don't mind that.
I've cleaned up the Cancer Book a lot, added dialog, and will once again re post it here... it's been awhile. and I've added some new stuff.
Thank you for being here.

diabities: INSULIN PRODUCING CELLS ARE FOUND!

Investigators of the Diabetes Research Center at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel have isolated cells from the pancreas of adult mice that formed insulin-producing beta cells. Because nobody had been able to identify these elusive progenitors from adult organisms before, their existence has been questioned. The research group of Harry Heimberg reports these findings in the January 25 issue of the leading edge scientific journal Cell. If these progenitor cells are also present in the human pancreas, they may create new possibilities for treatment of diabetic patients who suffer from insulin deficiency due to insufficient beta cells. Insulin is needed to transport sugar, our primary energy source, from the blood to our cells.

One of the most important characteristics of these postnatal progenitor cells is their close resemblance to the well-known embryonic progenitors of the beta cells. The reason why it took so long to disclose these postnatal progenitors is a combination of their scarcity and the difficulty to recruit them to activity. Heimberg's team took these hurdles by clamping the channel that drains digestive enzymes from the pancreas causing a regeneration process that activated the progenitor cells. Genetic labeling of these cells allowed their detection and isolation. During the tissue regeneration process, the beta cell mass doubled.

Future research needs to find out whether the progenitor cells also exist in the pancreas of postnatal man and what are the factors that can drive their differentiation to fully functional insulin cells. The main goal is to activate the progenitors by simply applying these factors without injury of the pancreas. Moreover, isolation of stem/progenitor cells from the pancreas of diabetes patients would allow amplification before re-transplantation. Indeed, transplantation of beta cells is a successful therapy but can nowadays only be applied to a limited number of patients due to a shortage in donor organs. Generation of large numbers of beta cells from progenitors would facilitate a large-scale transplantation program.

I am just flat out burned out. Too much is on my plate, has been on my plate, and need to just get quiet for ahwile. Still in despair over refunding the last few refunds... this is hard to do right now, as I'm not my usual perky self.
So, I will come to this wonderful tribe by and by, otherwise, I am going to remove myself from most of the tribesI'm on, there is no way I can keep up with them all anymore.
And I guess we can forget about my ever bringing Kami to AZ. It doesn't seem that BDSS wants to work with me on it. So, there you go. I'm not so sure I want to work with them anymore. I only wanted Kami to make it up to everyone, otherwise, this has been the most unpleasant experience I've had in the past couple of years...It was the final blow for me financially, and this has been extremely stressful for me. So, time to re group, step back, take a breath, and see how I feel in the Spring.
I wish all goodness and joy for all of you, and success in your endeavors, wishes, and dreams.

GREAT.NEWS on the stemcell front!

To many, it is one of the most exciting developments in modern
medicine. To others, it is an ethically unacceptable practice. The
conflict of beliefs has always meant that the use of stem cells from
human embryos to treat a range of debilitating and incurable disorders
has remained controversial.

Now scientists have made a breakthrough that could offer a medical
solution without the controversy, by undermining the case for using
embryonic stem cells at all.

New evidence suggests that cells derived from a patient's own bone
marrow may regenerate damaged nerves in the brain, a task once
considered impossible. It is an important breakthrough in the
treatment of illnesses such as Parkinson's, multiple sclerosis and
Alzheimer's disease. brain INJURY

The work has potential to challenge embryonic stem cell research
because these stem cells have come not from embryos but from the bone
marrow of a mature adult.

It is the latest evidence to emerge from several lines of research
that have pointed to the power of adult stem cells to "reinvent"
themselves rather than to be narrowly predestined to develop into just
one type of body tissue.

The findings, published in the journal Cell Transplantation, will
reopen the debate over the ethics of experimenting on stem cells taken
from human embryos given that adult stem cells appear to possess the
same all-round ability to develop into specialised tissues.
Anti-abortion groups and the Vatican have fiercely opposed the use of
human embryos in stem cell research.

Stem cells have become one of the most exciting areas of medical
research because of their ability to be cultured in the laboratory and
stimulated with chemicals to become any one of the scores of
specialised tissues of the body.

Scientists envisage a day when stem cells can be used to repair
damaged organs rather than using potentially toxic drugs, a transplant
or palliative care for the terminally ill.

Several sources of stem cells have been identified, such as "spare"
IVF embryos less than 14 days old or adult bone marrow that is
constantly regenerating to produce fresh blood cells. The question has
been whether adult stem cells are just as good as embryonic stem cells
in terms of "pluripotency" the ability of a cell to become any
specialised cell of the body.

Work on animals shows the power of cultured embryonic stem cells to
develop into any tissue, but adult stem cells were traditionally
thought to be more fixed in terms of what they could become bone
marrow should only develop into blood cells for instance. But the
latest research, led by Walter Low, professor of neurosurgery at the
University of Minnesota Medical School, shows bone marrow extracted
from adult mice can develop into fully functioning, specialised brain
cells.

Professor Low injected bone marrow cells from a mouse into early
embryos, which were implanted into other mice who gave birth to live
young. The offspring were found to have taken up the "foreign" bone
marrow stem cells and used them to make cells in all regions of the
brain.

The transplanted stem cells developed into nerve cells, which normally
conduct electrical impulses, glial cells, which provide support to the
nerve cells, and cells that produce the fatty myelin sheath around the
nerve cells, which is damaged in patients with multiple sclerosis.

Catherine Verfaillie, a colleague of Professor Low, said the bone
marrow stem cells developed into all the cells known to be implicated
in Parkinson's disease, Huntington's disease, ataxia and Alzheimer's
disease. "This tells us that these adult stem cells are capable of
becoming nerve cells that communicate with other nerve cells within
the brain and form proper neural circuits that permit the mice to
function normally," Dr Verfaillie said.

A number of studies have already indicated that adult bone marrow
cells may have the ability to develop into non-blood tissue.
Scientists from the US National Institute of Neurological Diseases and
Stroke in Bethesda, Maryland, found for instance that post-mortem
tests on women who had received bone marrow transplants from men
possessed brain cells containing the male Y chromosome. The
implications were that male bone marrow stem cells had migrated to the
women's brains to become nerve cells, said Eva Mezey, who led the
study. "We have had trouble convincing some members of the scientific
community that this could happen," Dr Mezey said.

Opponents of the use of human embryos in stem cell research are likely
to use the findings to support their belief that there is no real need
to experiment with human embryos.

Josephine Quintavalle, a lawyer and campaigner, said that she would
use the latest work on adult cells to challenge whether scientists
needed to use human embryos at all. "Adult stem cells are infinitely
better than embryonic stem cells," she said. "The bias in the UK has
been to use embryonic stem cells simply because we have the most
permissive environment in the world for this sort of research."

Many British scientists and scientific organisations such as the
Royal Society believe research on both adult and embryonic stem
cells needs to be done in parallel before any decisions are taken to
ban the latter.

A report on stem cells by a House of Lords committee concluded: "It is
unlikely that either adult stem cells or embryonic stem cells alone
will provide the basis for all stem cell-based therapies; it is
therefore necessary to keep both routes to therapy open to ensure
maximum medical benefit."

Professor Low said further work was needed to ensure that the adult
stem cells in his study were genuinely developing into specialised
brain cells rather than merely fusing with them.

Professor Austin Smith, of Edinburgh University, found evidence to
suggest that adult stem cells tended to fuse with other cells, which
could make them potentially cancerous.

"This suggests a need for caution with regard to the therapeutic use
of adult tissue stem cells. If they only make other tissues by fusing
with existing cells rather than producing new cells, their utility for
tissue repair and regenerative medicine will be greatly reduced,"
Professor Smith said.

"If nothing else, our study indicates that calls for a halt to
embryonic stem cell research are not scientifically justified," he
added.

Professor Low said his findings were unlikely to be the result of
adult stem cells fusing with existing cells but he could not yet
rule it out.

Further research this year should establish beyond doubt whether adult
stem cells are truly capable of regenerating damaged brains, he said.
Until then, he added, further work on embryonic stem cells and adult
bone marrow cells was still necessary to compare the remarkable
attributes of both types of cell

I don't want to say this, gosh darn it, but I swore I would stay honest on this tribe about my heatlh. gosh darn it....
okay, no more swearing, Lucy, just spit this out.
I have no health insurance.. long story... basically, I HAD health insurance, when hubby and I lived apartt. I moved up here to live with him, and so he could take care of me, and since he is a successful working man, I no longer qualified for the State Insurance. And, the health plan at his former place of employment was ridiculous!! completely too expensive for us!
So, we have just been living, and I take care of myself in my own way. We pay FULL moeny for all my meds, and that has been extremely expensive.
But, a couple of weekends ago, my guys were gone, I was alone, and I started to feel physically very weird. I had the worst shooting pains in both arms, and started to vomit and black out... when I came to, I was still upright, but the radiating pains in my arms were extreme. I drove myself to the Urgent Care Center, to avoid getting an ambulance bill... and you know how it goes, they called the ambulance for me anyway, and rushed me to the ER. shit.
So, it appears that I had a heart attack, and they don't really know for sure, since I checked myself out and did not stay overnight in the hospital for more tests, like they wanted.
So, hubby is totally freaked out, and the dr. was pulling out his hair, and yet.. there is not a dang thing to do about it. Most health plans do not cover pre existing conditions, esp. cancer... but he works at a new place, and in a few months, we should be eligible for the new plan. We have to see if I can be covered or not.
So, that's it, folks. I said it, so no one can say I kept this a secret, in case bad news rolls down the road.
As I said before, I am going to live my life all the way, full tilt, and that includes making long term plans. If I don't meet them, by gosh, at least I've tried and have had goals to achieve.
I love being alive, I like it here a lot, however... I feel that I'm in a good place mentally and spiritually, if I have to leave suddenly. I wish I could get to more events, but we have so much going on up here and as soon as things move along, I promise to share all of my plans and successes with all of you... and it's so nice up here in Cottonwood, and I exercise and practice my dancing, so the ole ticker can stay strong.

overlapping of events, yet again

what's up with alll these overlaps? Ther are 3 very incredibly wonderful events happening in AZ (that I know of) for this upcoming weekend. This puts a lot of pressure on the dance community, how are we supposed to pick and choose? what if we want to go to all 3? In my case, I felt so conflicted, that I will just stay home this time; but normally, would go to the one that I heard about first.
Don't people check with other sponsors anymore?
How can you cover your expenses if you don't have the maximum number of people? I ask this in all honesty, if it IS feasible to overlap/conflict, I would like to know how.
And let's face it..... we can try to be loyal to each other and work together, but in the end, there is very little economic loyalty, so if folks sponsor an event just for themselves, in a way, I can see that point.

what are the benefits of different types of pain meds? pills vs. smoke vs guinness vs and or other types of alcohol? why is one better than the other?
If it works, I mean.
If Im facing my mortality, does it really matter?

does anyone have an addiction to pain meds?

I ask this, because at one point, I'm sure I was... I was hurting so badly, and I really enjoyed those little ole vicodins. The relief it gave me was intoxicating. I could take a big deep breath and not hurt... not my eyes or my head or my stomach or my arms and legs.
I still have a prescripion for them, but I don't fill it anymore, I was freakin about addiction.
My main question is... what exactly is addiction to pain meds? I mean, if we are really sick, and it helps, is it better to suffer, and stay clean, or get rid of pain, and turn into addicts? what about the occasional drink?
I have pondered that, in case the cancer comes back. Should I forego the pills and just drink a Guinness.. wihch seems to wash away pain. I haven't had a drink in 26 years, and I wonder if it's better to re-=activate the alcoholism, and not suffer as much. Or pop pills. or just bite the bullet and try other ways.
Right now, I'm biting the bullet, and try to work through the pain, sometimes it works, sometimes it doesnt'. Todoay, I hurt, but take Tylenol when Ive had enough. I take Tylenol every single night. Ihaven't been able to swim these last few days, so am covered in a sweat from the pains in my stomach and head. Exercise helps, but no jogging when it's this hot.
And I decided that I'm not going to keep this struggle a secret, I like being able to let folks know of this battle. I am still not sure about whre I stand. At one point, I told my son to score me some weed! he's a grown up now, and flat out said no. He doesn't want to get stoned wtthi his mommy, and I have to agree with him. I'm not crazy about smoking illegal weeds, it makes me sick and paranoid.. the last thing I want during a cancer fight. no, I'm far too introspective as it is, going through and in and out of my brain cells would be pure agony. the idea is to get some rest and some quality time.
So, what do the rest of you folks do? if you hurt a lot? just wondering. I will say that now that I'm aware of how my ears perk up when pain meds are mentioned, I can avoid that pitfall. Wha'ts the point of surviving if my brain is fried on opiates?
xxxx

I just now found out, sorry it came so late. Not enough registrants, so BDSS pulled the plug in order not to lose any more money. Which is fair. Please tell any one you know who was planning on coming, send me your snail mail addresses, I DO have them on the registration forms, but just to be sure, maybe you can send them again.. I don't want to overlook anyone.
I lost a lot of money on this, so it will take time to pay it all back to you folks, but I will.
Thanks.

update on a couple of things..

1. I've written to Miles twice, (regarding the Kami ws cancellation) and have not heard one word from him. So.. this is where the rubber hits the road, and if I DO hear from him, I will be sure to let you all know. Looks like I too get to join the "persona non grata" club. ouch!
2. I still don't have the bank account for the AZBDN, and without it, I can't mail out anything! so, I'm waiting until Sept. 15, at the very latest to have the money transferred, or to get access to it.. otherwise, I have to resign as editor. I don't have the money to do it all myself, and this has taken ages to get rolling.
I need to have all the info and advertisements in and ready to go by Oct. 15 so I can get out the Nov-Dec. issue.
So, financially, things have to be in place before then.
I'm only a volunteer, guys.. I'm not getting paid for this, which is perfectly fine, I volunteered myself. I just want to give you all a heads up, on what might be happening.
3. on a happier note, I have an interview today to teach bellydance at one of our local gyms... My goal is to get rolling and start a volunteer program of teaching bellydance to all ages of women, esp. the teenagers. I want to help them learn to empower themselves through dance, and start erasing all those negative body images we are bombarded with, day after day. Bellydancing is downright revolutionary iin this way, it speeds up the healing process soooo quickly.
anyway, if I start teaching here, it could be the beginning of my 501 c group. Once it gets rolling, then I can look for some grants and apply to be a non profit organization. yes, and it will take a while, but hey.. I've got all the time in the world.
wish me luck.

So, I break in every now and then, to talk about what it's like now. Living my life after all the trauma and drama...
One of the first things I've learned is that there are no rules to having a serious disease. And cancer in particular. You would think that with all the poor folks getting this, that there might be a guidebook on what to do if you are diagnosed. I have yet to find a book like that. And for some reason, the advice from my survivor friends helped only a little. Because I was dxed with a type no one I know has had before. So, it wasn't really going to help me.
The first thing I noticed during recovery in a physical way was the amazing hallucinations I had when it got dark! wow!! Everything became vibrant, the lack of color from the darkness caused my brain to make colors and patterns that were'nt there. It felt like a search engine looking for the subject.. it was just slamming all kinds of really nice bright pinks and greens and other unnameable colors into my brain, trying to find that other eye. The poor remaining eye was struggling. Our flowered shower curtains glowed in the dark with an incredible psychedelic paisley print. And everything looked like a negative print from a camera.
Now, most of this happened, as soon as hubby turned out the light to go to bed.. so he had to prepare me... and the moment the lights went out.. BLAM... the lights clicked on in my head, so to speak. No, I was not tripping.. no drugs. It was all natural. who knew???
Also, there were the patterns dancing around, so I kept running into things. One time, I got lost in our hallway, looking for the bathroom. I ended up in a corner, stuck.. not sure which way to go. :)) The hall is quite small actually, but there I was, facing the wall, a la Blair Witch...I could have sworn I was in the bathroom. (bear in mind, that most of my nighttime forays had to do with finding the bathroom, so I was always a bit desperate).
after a couple of months, I learned to use the light of my hallucinations to find my way around in our apt. at night. So, I got so that I didn't need regular light anymore, I had my own.
This did not frighten me. I was absolutely astounded by it every time. I could spend many minutes staring at any one thing, watching it turn and move and glow.. yes, it was psychedelic, and it was fun. Hubby started getting a little jealous. It's hard to put into words really. A blank wall was no longer blank... everything had texture and color. I kept myself awake so I could look at everything and try to find the words to put this experience into my journal.
I also have found that I can still "see" with both my eyes closed. I can literally see the outlines of things in the eye that no longer exists. I'm not sure how. But now, I rarely hallucinate, I just see things differently in the dark. I don't go outside much, because that is when I will most definitely fall over something. But inside our place, it's all good.
And the other thing is, regardless of what illness does to our bodies, WE decide how we are going to feel and live. I don' thave medical insurance right now, so have no idea if the cancer has spread or not. And to be honest, I feel good, and if it spreads, it spreads. I will not live my life going to dr. appts. and medical tests that hurt like a bitch. I'm done with that. Because all those visits only depress me.
In the end, we all have to go out some way, none of us knows when our time has come.. the most important thing is to live as vibrantly as those colors on my shower curtain.
What maybe sets me apart from most folks is that I KNOW, without a shadow of a doubt, that I am MORTAL. Most folks can put it on the back burner for a while, but we all end up having to face that mortality in the end. So, I just came to my epiphany rather early in life. And I just want to be happy and have fun, and do what I want, and maybe to leave this planet a little better than when I got here. Which is a big order. Okay, I want my children and grandchildren to be glad that I once existed on this planet and glad to have known me. Which they are. And it is time for me to start giving back to the universe in some way, and I'm still looking for that. This is no big deal, I planned on doing this since I was very young. I have stages in my life, and am at the stage now where it is time to become more reflective and to do some good deeds, be helpful somehow. It isn't right to be grabbing for things for myself.

It was one year ago today that my left eye was removed, to get the cancer that was growing in it.. and I am so grateful and pleased to be here and to feel as good as I do. It's a LUXURY for me to be stressing over workshops this year.
Yesterday, I had my eye examined for new glasses and contacts, and the dr. found something growing in it! It was around the back part of the inner eye, like the tumor had grown.
So, he had some pictures taken, and somewhere in there, I had a teeny tiny meltdown. He only had to have 2 pictures taken, which was a relief, because the flash went all the way through my eye, and for a few seconds afterwards, I was completely blind. It wasn't fun at all.
But what he found was something normal, although finding anything in my one good eye makes me extremely anxious, which is natural. but today is good, today I can see. And live a good, full life.
It's so cool:)) So, tell me why folks sweat the small inconsequential stuff? what a waste of time and life! so, stop it. right now.

JUST A REMINDER: anyone who registers at the door for each workshop needs to pay cash

So, let's just look at how it will work with the Moria workshop: to pay at the door on 7/22 cost will be:
$70,person, cash..instead of the $60/pre-registration..
I really won't take any checks at the door.
BUT we are selling BDSS merchandise, and they WILL take checks... so, that will be okay.

I am only into February 06.. and needless to say, my life got very quiet. And contemplative. I spent all this time waiting for surgery on a tumor that was growing larger every day. I also kept the amazing and crazy threads on the different tribes I was on at the time, keeping me cheerful, and getting to know folks a lot better than before. Awesome that people reach out in all ways to show compassion. So, here it is: Ch. 4..

2/23 LETTER TO A FRIEND: a weekend is one thing, to know that no one is coming home is another. And sadly, I am on my way to the ER. I have gotten very sick from a cold, and am in extreme pain. I spent all of last night, holding my eye, trying to sleep. I needed to go to the hosp. but had no one to call or take me. Because I am alone.
this isn't working, it just isn't.
Hang onto this letter, to remember this, please. I really don't know what is going to happen next, and were I not in so much pain, I would be terrified.

I am so so sick, and my eye and head are excruciating right now My bp is 161/109. so am on my way to the ER.

Letter to one of my lists:

Don't be jealous, but I will be getting radiation seeds, implanted in plastic and gold, inserted behind my eyeball. Then, I will have a lead patch, because... I WILL BE RADIOACTIVE. I won't be able to get within 6 ft. of people.
I am rather excited by this prospect. Fascinated. I feel like those 50s movies, where animals and folks were exposed to radiation, and got all mutant. They always seemed to grow really tall.
I wonder if I will glow in the dark; if I might short circuit any electrical appliances?
Lucy
I think a Radioactive Girl cyberpunk dance outfit is in order. Do people ever bellydance with silver platform high-heeled buckle-boots? And ray-guns?

Like a cross between this:
and this:

Seriously though, how long are you going to have to deal with the distance limits? Am I right in remembering that the beebees lose potency over time?

Good luck and blessings to you.
That's so rad Lucy. I am jealous...I want an eye patch, at all times! And a peg leg, so I can go "arrgghh!" at small children and big manly men. Go "arrghhh!" Lucy! Arrgghh to pesky cancer!

And you can always come within six feet of me, because I personally wouldn't mind growing a third nipple or a second bellybutton... woOt!
Your mom is my hero, Charity. Please post a photo of her in the next couple of days. It would mean a lot to me, and probably to a lot of other folks as well. Cuz sooner or later, we all have to face SOMETHING that wants to take us out. And we have to go through a process, that is rarely fun, but is also rarely all grim.
I was in the hospital all day yesterday, I got very sick, and was howling and crying in pain.
I know this WILL stir up jealousy, but I got legal narcotics.. in the arm.. yeah, babee, yeah!! morphine! twice. I know, I know, it's wrong to boast. The oral percocet didn't work, so it was mainline time for me. I was gone all day today, until recently for a million more tests and yet another IV! with iodine in it this time.
My best friend in San Diego, and I wan't to get matching tats, so she is designing it for us, so when I go to SD, we can go to HER tattooist! (She got her first tat last week:)) woo HOOO!!!!
So, it's off for a little nappy poo. I earned it.
Re: Am I the oldest Goth dancer here??
Sat, February 18, 2006 - 5:29 PM
I'm taking some time off until I get this tumor taken care of, then I will be back, and like to think I will STILL look better than ever:) for me, I have to keep my dreams alive, and contnue to enjoy the things that make me happy. Physically, I am not able to dance much now, but really believe that after surgery and healing, all will be well. I was so perky these past couple of years, it will pay off, I believe.
I still feel hot, sexy, love to look good.. I feel the same way I did when I was in my 20s, only smarter:)
it's insanity to give in to societal pressure of what is old, or beautiful, etc. Why are so many of us here on this list? probably because since early on, we have never fallen for that age/beauty crap. We were/are probably dancing/moshing/head banging to our own inner drummers all along.
I like to think that we are breaking stereotypes by re making what it is to be 30, 40, 50, etc. I have no picture of how I should look at this age, I only know how I want to look and what looks good to me. I know what is beautiful to me, and how it feels.
I hope this makes sense. I really think we are all so beautiful! I think that crazy women like us are far more relaxed and less uptight than the average woman who is being run into the ground by societal pressure.
Love
Lucy
2/25, Saturday.. George Harrison.. I miss you…

Letter to a friend: Hi, P: thank you again for all your support and the help you and your boys gave me the other day. I got sick over the weekend, so went to the ER for one day, and then have had to lay low, until I feel better, but each day is pretty darn good since then. I had a CT scan done at Much on my brain, and then, 2 days later, had my lungs and abdomen done. Still waiting for the results. I have a patient advocate now, who is an amazing woman! she has hooked me up with all kinds of things I needed. The really hard part was to get sick, and not have a ride to the hospital, or store. I discovered that when I am feeling well, walking around is easy; but the minute I get under the weather, oooeee! it's nigh near impossible! So, Jenn took me shopping yesterday, for a bunch of stuff, and she is coming over next week to help me fix up the apt. really pretty so when I am sick I can just look around and feel lovely again. I want to feel like a TRUE diva, lying on my exotic pillows with the veils hanging off the walls and ceiling. ahhhhh... nice....All I need now are some handsome cabana boys to wave palm fronds on me to keep me cool:))
Lots of love,
Lucy

I came over, and she straightened my kitchen. It looks wonderful. Jackie also threw away a ton of stuff in Alan’s room. WE aren’t quite done I worked in both rooms, then had to sit, I got so tired and the dust! Geez, I’m wheezing now. So, everyone has left, I gave a bunch of stuff to D and J, I.... took the two big bags of clothes to a donation center. I’m happy. So much is cleaned up now.

2/27…geez… crappy day. I feel so useless w/out a reg. job and teaching bd.. am I invisible? Fading away? All I keep feeling is that I am poor.. and hove very few material items. The weird thing is, when we had the house, the van, and lots of food and stuff.. I was fat! But I’m not so fat anymore, I lost a ton of weight, as soon as we got poor, and lost the house. I’m not saying the two go h and in hand, because I started on the eating plan the last summer we lived there.. but it just seems interesting. I learned more about resources to help me from the American Cancer Society. It was all kinda sad. It’s so bizarre to be calling them about cancer in ME.

Thank you,

but here is my dilemma, as I walk a path I have never walked before. Will I still look good after surgery? when cancer is over, will I be pretty? or is cancer ever really over? Gosh, I want a tat. Not a drink, not a cookie, but a tat.
Lucy

2/28.. today is where the rubber hits the road. Both our accounts are overdrawn, he opened a new one, which I can’t get to. Rent is due tomorrow. I went to apply for benefits, and there is still so much to do. I don’t want to be evicted.

3/3 finally got the money for the rent. Had to go to a food bank, since all the food and money is gone. Also, I may have to postpone the surgery, because my new insurance has not been approved yet. I am devastated! I’m running out of time, if it grows any larger, they will remove my eye. And Alan doesn’t seem to care much, but this does not surprise me in any way. I would have liked some compassion, some tenderness, but why wish for something that won’t happen> and it makes me cry. When I asked him if I’m on my on for getting food, he said YES, for now. No surprise on that either.
I’m alone in ALL ways now.

3/6 Feeling better today, not so alone. Feel pretty good, adjusting well. D and J and the baby came by and it felt good. .

3/9.. I’ve been keeping my journey, so to speak, in my letters to folks. So, I have to go back and dig them up. It gives a natural feel to this. Since I plan to publish this, how raw do I want to be? I want to be completely open, but that won’t be possible. But I WILL be almost completely open. That’s the best I can do.
.
To THE tumor: I hate you, I detest you. Fuck you! Did you think that when you started growing in my eye, that you could stay? Oh, you are VERY wrong. You can make me sick, give me headaches give me stomach cramps, but that doesn’t mean I’ll quit fighting you. As I sit here, crying my eyes out, I know I will feel better when I tell you how much I hate you, and how ANGRY and indignant I am that you are living in my wonderful, beautiful eye. Well, not for long, you little fucker… You re gonna be baked, fried, destroyed, nuked.. and n the meantime, the eye and my body and I are going to keep you contained in your little area, so you can’t spread. We are just going to squeeze you nice and hard into a little ball, and there you will stay until the surgery. Yes, I see you throbbing up in the top of my eye. Go ahead, give me a light show, give me a headache. It will be nothing compared to what I will do to you. I still have my right eye , so even if left eye is fading, left eye is still here, with me. And you can’t take it away from me! I won’t let you.!!!! Oh, tumor, this is a war, and I am going to WIN. I can’t wait until; you are radiated in the most extreme way, and you will die, but the rest of us will live. Left eye, right eye, all of me. We WILL LIVE. But not you. So, throb away, but right now, we are squeezing you in, encapsulating you in the back of the eye. Which is where you wanted to grow, right? Oh, don’t like it anymore? Think you can spread? Forget it. It’s not happening. Enjoy your last few days here, cuz you have one helluva week coming up, but I won’t tell you, I want you to be surprised. I just want you to wake up one morning and see you have a little friend with you.. the radiation packet. And it will burn you and shrink you, and make you sick, and destroy your cells… it will all be so gruesome, and none of us will care. Not one eye, not one ear, not one hair on my head.. And no one will hear your cries of pain, because NO ONE will care. No one cares about you now; at the very least, I detest you. You are NOT part of my body, you are NOT any part of me. So, go ahead, push on left eye, it pushes back. And so does the rest of my body. We are pushing you, tumor.. pushing you into the little disgusting mass that you are. I am going to go medieval on your ass.

update on the Moria and Kami workshops/registration

registration is rolling in, luckily we have room for a large number of participants, although not so may for vendors. It looks like the early birds will get the inside, and others who come later (And are willing) will vend outside. Her's what I thinnk will happen. Inside vendors can vend before, after, and during lunch break. The outside vendors can vend all day long, since it won't be breaking into the teaching aspect. And I fiugre if they are willing to brave the burning fires of hell, AZ in the summer, they earn the right to vend the whole day. eeeshhh....
I'm not sure of any folks who WILL do this, I have feeling, those few vendors who get lucky enough to reserve some spots will be indoors no matter what.
:) So, if you think you might want to reserve a spot, even if to vend any used costumes or whatever, send in your fee now. $20/rack, table/day.

Like being diva's in our alternative lives. Real live folks in the rest of it.
I am going to ask some help from those that may wish to offer some. Please check out my listings at www.1makerofstuff.Etsy.com where I have placed the start of some tams, snoods, 'n' hair stuff. I have run into some medical issues that make it necessary for me to relocate closer to the hospital.
Thanks for listening (so to type)

Feb 4. Friday night.. Today was kinda rough, but really, I think I was whining just a little too much. Had a great night at work, only a few hours, but it was hopping. And I was hoppy:)
Tomorrow we leave for Cottonwood, where big Alan will start his new job, and I don’t know if I will go to Leah’s or not. No one to stay with little Alan. But I will be up there on Tuesday, come hell or high water.

I also found out that I CAN have the laser/radiation treatment instead of having my eye removed.. but if it doesn’t work, THEN I have to have the eye removed. So, I just wait for things to unfold for me. Waiting is so hard!

2/8..I GOT STOOD UP!! these past few days were intense! I pushed myself, saw my darling friend Leah, such an angel.. saw the show, but no M., no ticket, nothing. As if I don’t exist. This hurts me a lot. Leah was planning on coming to dinner too; we were all dressed up, I was so nervous and so happy. But for naught. I had to ask a stranger who works with his company apparently, and she told me he was just too swamped with work to come and see the show. But it wasn’t about the show.. I guess I thought he would be more interested in seeing me once again for the second time.
I think this has led to my meltdown, which has been rumbling inside me for awhile. This hurts a lot!! My friend, my confidante, my buddy, my fellow uber sane pal… forgot about meeeeeeeeeeeee. Am I so unimportant? so Easy to overlook? well, maybe just to some, but not to the ones I see every day of my life
I have felt tons of love this week, and severe rejection. I’ve had panic attacks to where I was shivering, my knees literally knocking together, then I have gone into joy and laughter, and tears of relief and sadness. I feel like I am becoming bi-polar, which I know can cause a lot of suffering. I feel rejection more strongly than ever; I see rejection where there might not be any.
I am going to go through all that I need to do. I have to fight.
I quit my job today. I am too tired, and must concentrate now on ME. It is very difficult to go to work crying all the time. And my eyesight is worse.

2/14 valentine’s day, and my valentine is far away from me. So, I keep cleaning and throwing trash away; its’ getting there. The tests on my liver came back normal.. ie. the cancer has not spread there yet!! I kind of felt like it would be that way. I’ve just ended a meltdown that started 2/8. Every day is new.
I also started eating those frozen chocolate truffles or whatever they are. And brie cheese. I have to tell all this to my doctor, she’s gonna be ticked. I don’t blame her. But today was better, yesterday was better. I went for a 5 mi. walk, and hope to do so tomorrow. In between paying the bills and cleaning out our apt. So M, he who stood me up.. e mailed me to let me know and apologize, I understood. He has his own gut wrenching problems going on and I would look like an ass if I complained. I have no reason to; so we just keep on as before. Lots of e mails back and forth, some funny ones, some rather dark communications. I’m not the only one who struggles with keeping positive.
2/17 My poor baby is sick, and it was hell getting him to the doctor. We took a cab, and it was expensive. But he has his meds coming soon, and we had lunch together. He is going back up north with his father, who comes this weekend to take most of the furniture. I really can’t take care of him properly, and he misses his father. I will miss him so much, there is just no way around it, but the future is wide open for me. “my heart is as open as the sky”… I guess like the woman in the movie, when one has been ripped apart, nothing can hurt as much. I just want him to be happy.
Last year, I felt that things couldn’t get worse.. and now here we are, and hoo boy, I was wrong, things ARE worse. At some point, they will get better, I just have to walk this alone somehow and be brave.
The local dance community has been so good to me, and are planning a benefit for me. Wow! And from all over the world, I get tons of e mails from my fellow dancers, sending me love and healing. I feel very good about this, I feel powerful!
Was today a good day? It didn’t start out too good, my eye was so weird, I was dizzy. But as the day has progressed, it has improved a bit. The day AND my left eye. I will go to bed early tonight, I am so tired, and by staying busy, it makes it easier to sleep at night.
My baby boy is leaving to live with his dad.. Earlier, he was so happy, packing things up, giving things away, calling his friends. Then, he wrote a special note to Siri Atma and his friends at school, which I did not read, I can't. I'll cry.. and he also gave his book of memoirs to his former teacher, Jan... with a special note in it, which I couldn't read either. I'm on the brink of just losing it, I will miss my boy so much! but he's the most important one here, and he wants to be with his daddy so much! He wants to be with me, too; but he wants us together, who can blame him?
I don't know how I can live without him, so have to go through all my stuff, then will probably go up there. I need to be with my little guy. He's becoming a young man, and I don't want to miss it.
Sunday, 2/18 the guys left today; he came down and took a bunch of furniture and the guy’s bdroom set, and now. I am living alone for the first time in uh…well, since I was 21.. not counting one year before I had Gabe. He’s almost 28 now… so, let’s put it this way.. it’s been 28 years since I lived alone.
There is a lot to clean up, his room for example… so I have work to do. But to be alone! With a smaller TV and no furniture!! Well, what can I do? Keep cleaning and know that my son is with his dad. He was pretty happy to go, but got a bit teary eyed at first. He’s ready for a new adventure, and called his friends and said good bye, and gave me some notes to give to his class and to a couple of teachers.
2/20.. Today was pretty good, still quiet. Yesterday I had a raindrop essential oil treatment, and I was so tired afterward I went to bed at 7! I got a call from I, and we talked a bit. She doesn’t sound so good either, her voice sounds like mine, all froggy and hoarse.
I came down with a cold, and last night, was putting away the dishes, and SLAMMED my forehead into the open cupboard door.. WOWOWOWOWOWWW!! The pain was incredible.. on top of the eye and the sinus infection, then it was my left side of the head. I began to really wonder if I should live alone or not. Since I can’t see out of the eye, I really am at risk for hurting myself. But I didn’t bleed, put a package of frozen blueberries on my noggin and held it there. Then, after I calmed down, decided I’m still pretty fit and am not completely hopeless. I just need more practice using my one eye.
I got a sinus infection yesterday, and still have it, but drank a lot of water and tea. I still have to get used to the quiet in the apt. I called a bunch of agencies today, trying to get a ride for my CT scan, but got no’s all the way across, and at the very most, have to apply for some of these organizations.
So, it hurt, being rejected, feeling so vulnerable. Then I got MAD… really mad, for the way folks are jerking me around. And I know it’s not just me, but other sick people as well, and it’s rotten! I’m always amazed at how cruel some people can be when a person is down.
I need to share this experience with as many people as I can, so maybe they can avoid certain pitfalls. Otherwise, all this unhappiness has been for nothing. “What’s the point? What is the redeeming value of this?” if I don’t share this, then there IS no value or point. There isn’t any way, but I can create a point, create some meaning, however tiny, out of this.

Hi, Folks: Amaya has given me an offer that if I have 3 dancers register using me as a reference, I guess it is. She said if I bring 3 people to the S&B.. so, I'm sure she doesn't expect us to all go in together.
I would really like to go to this, so if anyone is undecided, maybe this suggestion will help convince you..

So, today, I made a new bd friend. Her name is R… and she is absolutely gorgeous! She comes from a similar spiritual place that I do, I think. Time will tell, but obviously, being a belly dancer, she is positive and upbeat. I love meeting new folks like this, it keeps me going. So, this has been my great pleasure and surprise for today
I’m stressed out a bit, my tummy hurts, but so what? I’ve started this journal and feel more creative than I have these past few days. I still have to tell more people, I just don’ want to, and Ill tell folks when I damn well feel like it, its’ MY tumor and MY eye, after all.

Jan. 25.. I have cancer. I really really do. There’s no getting away from it. The options are few: some weird type or radions IF the melanoma is not judged to be too big.. or have the eye removed. The size makes it borderline. I will find out n the next couple of days. Chemo will not work for this type. And n matter what, I will be blind in that eye.
26… still in shock, today I start writing my will and how I want my celebration to go. No tears, so mourning and all that other crap. Geez!! What a drag! That isn’t me at all.. I want folks to be happy, dang it. So, today I start going through all my stuff for my will.. besides, I’ve needed to do this for years, might as well do it now.
3 pm.. today has been pretty crazy as the news leaks out, and I’m grateful for all the folks that care about me. It’s hard to tell folks, I feel guilty in a way that my news has causes them pain. I dunno if its part of the grieving process, but it certainly is mine. I’m not going to worry about whatever I feel during this time.. what I feel is what I feel, and that is good.
Disposing of my remains.. please dress me in one of my favorite costumes, I. and Alan will decide on that. Bindis, facial markings, dreads.. all of the. I want to look like a Celtic warrior/goddess/queen. Remove any jewelry and divide it among all 3 of my sons.
I wish to be cremated, outside somewhere, on a big funeral pyre, but if not, that’s okay, just pop the body into the oven. Spread my ashes in the Pacific off the coast of San Diego.
27, had a good cry today, finished my will, and felt like I’ll be seeing Mama pretty soon, that I may very well be going home to her. And I miss her so much. That possessive, fiercely loyal woman. I sure do love her. I need to stay here and fight thought. I have my Alan to stand up for. I don’t want it to sound like I’m giving up, but I’ve had to go there, and prepare for all possibilities.
28 “my eyes darken, my body is broken, you must let me go.. I go to my fathers, in whose company I shall not be ashamed” Rohan
last night went to 21 praises to Green Tara. They also did a special healing one for me, and threw in some White Tara, whom I am not familiar with. But I will learn as much as possible. I feel happy and good today, I.. and I were completely relaxed afterwards.
30 had my blood drawn by the oncologist to see if cancer has gone to my liver. Then I went to work, ahhhhhhh… I LOVE work. So soothing, so fun…

journey journal

Jan 21.. Play off Sunday.. It’s been over a week since I heard the bad news. I heard this news on Friday, 13!!!! Fuck! Talk about black Friday. I never thought in my wildest dreams that a tumor would grow in my pretty little left eye. And I love my eyes, and I’ve had a fear of being disfigured on my face; and now, here it is. Be careful of what you are afraid of, Erin. The universe will send it to you, so you will get over the fear.
I’m so grateful for Ingrid, cuz as soon as I walked out of the opth office, and she asked me how it went, I burst into tears. I was shaken to my very bones. So, she hugged me while I cried. I know she loves me, I truly do, and I trust her with my physical and emotional life. And she’s been by me ever since, hearing my fears, and al the other stuff that has scared me this week.
I’m working on my will now, and am not sure what to do with my b.d. costumes. I don’t want them to go to one person, I want my babies to go to many dancers, who will USE these costumes, and let them DANCE.
But who am I kidding? I haven’t even started my will, because I get nauseous immediately.
Oh yeah, the tummy has been acting up on and off since the news. Stress related for sure.
Alan and I are talking bout big stuff, and this means a lot to me. We’re looking at a divorce, so he and little Alan can live up north, and be happy. I want that for my young man so very very much. I would be so sad if I had to face chemo alone, and yet, I would be so glad to face chemo alone, if he is happy.
Ingrid and I talked about it. Then, she asked me if I had told my LA buddy yet, and I said no. cuz he is my other trustworthy friend. I have many, of course.. damn straight.. but LA guy is very strong and can take a lot, so I don’t feel so guilty spilling my guts to him. Other folks who know are my other deeply loved one”: suzen, penny, cuz don and cindy, my boys, the folks I work with, my good friends up in Phoenix area..
I’m afraid to tell my students, and the local belly dance community. I’m not ready yet. Geez, I could talk on and on about this, is it because this is my first day writing about it? Probably. I love to write what I’m feeling, so I have a lot to say right now.
I increased my anxiety medication, and she added extra blood pressure meds, because duh!! The stress has shot my bp sky high. I don’t feel lots of happiness anymore, I feel uh…. Not hysterical, not grief stricken, but tired. Really really tired. And I know it’s my depression, and im going to have to accept this for a while.
Mr. LA said he thinks I would look powerful in an eye patch, and by gosh, I think he’s right! I can dance with an eye patch, and I can make sure the patches match my costume. I just want the chance to be able to keep dancing, and not for it to end.
There is still hope. The dr. may have made a mistake, and maybe it is something not bad at all. Okay, it has to be kinda bad, it’s fluid in my eye, a tumor.. so, no matter what, that is bad. But maybe not terribly bad. Maybe it’s a #3 bad, not the 9 or 10 that we are worried about. One being perfection, 10 being a death sentence in a few weeks. Or losing my eye. My beautiful brown eye. Oh! I love my eyes so much, they have been my strong point all my life.

an article by me should be out on Yahoo this month...

I am not too sure where it will be posted, the group is Capessa, and is all over Yahoo.. I read the first article after I had sent some email. It linked me to an "inspirational" true story.
so, I joined the group, and then the editor of Yahoo Health and Capessa asked me to write an article, which I did a couple of months ago. She told me it would be posted sometime in May.
As soon as I hear more, I will post the link.
Or if anyone finds it, please let me know:))
The photoaccompanying the article is of me 100 years ago, all decked up in my finest tribal (at the time) and balancing swords.. oh, you know the one, it's posted on my profile. I believe it was taken around the time I performed for the Czar of Russia and his court. (The performance got 2 thumbs up by Rasputin, but I'm not bragging.. he ALWAYS gave two thumbs up)..
anyway.....
I'm very pleased and honored that they asked me. Capessa and Yahoo I mean, not the Czar. I hope it will be helpful to whoever reads it.
The Czar and Rasp weren't around long enough to give recommendations for me.
ah well, you know how show biz is... dog eat dog...

good ole Cottonwood... I have a tentative show on Satuarday night, May 26, at the local Middle Eastern Restaurant, The ROCK CAFE.... and my Mommy and Me bellydancing Classes are starting to jell..
I love watching those little tykes getting into the groove, and dancing to the music. The older ones, the toddlers, can keep a beat and move their whole bodies, and the tiny ones rock back and forth, or sit quietly and listen, mesmerized. Not surprising at all..
So, I'm taking the act on the road so to speak, and am heading down to Tucson to teach.. here is the itinerary.. and. I AM looking for a woman-appropriate space for the classes. here is the info:

Hi, All: Lucy coming to Tucson, starting casual drop in classes. If you have or know of a nice pleasant space, can you e mail me? I don't anticipate big crowds at first, but figure things will pick up by early July.
If any of you ladies would consider letting me use your home or office or front room... I could do a trade in kind.or 20% of my profits...
Most important thing: it must be woman-friendly.. no guys milling about... nothing wrong with guys, just that it's so important for us to have a safe place to dance.
for those of you outside of Tucson, but would like to have me come in and teach a class to you and your friends, feel free to contact me too. At this point;, I am specializing in working with mothers of young children, who never get to go many places. It is very good for both Mommies and Babies:))
xxxlucy

Beginning and Intermediate, starting Thursday, June 7.. time and place tba
Mommy and Baby classes, starting Tuesday, June 5, time and place tba.

Hi Lucy,

I was snooping around and I found your tribe..woo hoo! I'm going to post a link to this tribe on my AZ BD Uncensored tribe, if that's OK with you. Since you're active in organizing workshops and things, I thought it would be a good idea for people to know where to find out info on what projects you're working on.

So, having said this, what's on the radar for July? I seem to recall seeing you post that you have several workshops in the works for July timeframe. Please share any info you have, even if it's just a name and a date (so folks can put it on their calendars).

Thanks so much!

~S~

(PS) My best wishes for much good luck in everything that you do!

It feels a bit embarrassing, I'm not sure how much I have to offer, but by gosh, now I have a forum.

ABOUT MORIA:
Moria's enigmatic stage presence is born from a history of training in San Francisco bellydance technique that combines the Salimpour method, stylization from The Indigo, and Fat Chance posturing. Remembering her mother's early practice of bellydance, her father's study of yoga, and from what later became a background of classical dance and theatre in her youth, Moria was moved to exclusively study bellydance after graduating Magne Cum Laude from the University of California, Irvine. Inspired by the spirit of bellydance as it allows for the organic and gypsy nature of life to move serpentine through space, her personal fusion of circus art, theatre make-up, and rich costuming brings a grace and elegance to tribal bellydance that evokes the majestic. She has performed music and dance in collaboration with Suhaila and Jamilla Salimpour via Bal Anat and The Suhaila Dance Company; with Ziah Ali via Awalim; and currently with Rachel Brice and Sharon Kihara via The Bellydance Superstars. Moria performs and teaches internationally and is well loved within the bellydance community and beyond.

ABOUT KAMI:
Kami's style is what she calls a modern fusion of an ancient dance. Although she is primarily a tribal dancer, she pulls from the various styles of belly dance that she has studied, as well as modern, hip hop, jazz, and bhangra dance.
