Bellydance Superstars: Lets get workshops going!

Hey ladies!

The Belly dance Superstars will be going to Twin Falls, Idaho on the 16th, right after they come by through Eugene on the 13th of October. Shimmy Shakti Studios of Twin Falls were lucky enough to get Zoe Jakes and Kami Liddle to teach a workshop there. I was wondering if anyone has tried seeing if they would hold one here as well. I'm new to the area and don't yet have a studio or anything, but I would be more than willing to help anyone interested in getting them to hold a workshop while they are in the area.

Let me know ladies!

Oh and I guess I should also mention that I have decided to start my own troupe here in Eugene called Cold Fuzion. You can check out my myspace at www.myspace.com/coldfuzion for more information. I have 3 spots available if anyone is interested in joining. I also have a tribe set up at tribes.tribe.net/coldfuzion if you would like to join, though not very much traffic at the moment. Intro classes begin in October and will be held on Tuesday evenings. Still looking for studio space, so if any of you know any that are available, I would highly appreciate the information.

Luminessah Farewell Party this Friday the 24th!!!!

LeeAnn is moving to Minnesota with her family at the beginning of August, so we are putting on a huge show to send her off this coming Friday, the 24th. We have a fantastic lineup including Middle Eastern band Americanistan, amazing Corvallis Raqs Sharki performer Janikea, Tribal Fusion master Regina Anne, hillarious and talented Grey Matter Jugglers, and Eugene's favorite old-time bluegrass band The Conjugal Visitors! Luminessah will perform three times throughout the night, first with Americanistan, then a set of our own, and finishing with a few songs with the Conjugal Visitors. The other highlight of the night will be announcing our new troupe member!! Who will it be? Come find out and help us celebrate this transition!

We'll also be performing August 15th at a fundraiser for Chintimini Wildlife Center, an organization that does amazing work helping rescue and rehab injured wildlife and educates the public. This will be the 4th annual Bellydance Showcase Animal Welfare Fundraiser which has raised over $1,000 for Heartland Humane Society and Chintimini so far.

Looking for Hafla's to vend these great custom Tribal designs...

Hello all. I just relocated to Eugene and I brought some great custom Tribal designs with me. I have a store on Etsy called Tribal Trollops but I really like bringing the accessory and jewelry designs to the dancer's.

I am a Tribal instructor as well, I also teach a woman's seminar called SaSesD which is Self Awareness, Self Esteem for Self Defense. My daughter and I will be starting a Irish Step dance up at Celebration Belly Dance and Yoga as well. Hope to meet everyone soon.

Raq Your Saqs Benefit for Ian Means

Eugene’s fantastic bellydance community will come together on Thursday, May 28th from 7-9 at Cozmic Pizza to entertain and raise funds for Ian Means, a 15 year old boy with leukemia and the son of our bellydance sister, Sharon. Our talented dancers include Luminessah, Tribalation, Razia, Regina Anne, Margarita, Audra, Raka, and more! All types of bellydance from our diverse community will be represented from classic Egyptian to experimental fusion. You won’t want to miss this spectacular event!

A student at the Network Charter School, Ian was recently diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia and will soon undergo a bone marrow transplant. All proceeds will go toward medical related expenses.

Our Big Fusion Show

Our Fusion Extravaganza show was extremely awesome!! We were so happy to have a very full house! ( I had to stand on my chair to watch most of the show!) Luminessah is so grateful to all the performers and friends who made the show so amazing. That's right we've got some of the best fusion dancers in Oregon together for a fabulous show March 27th!! Circus Tribal (Ashland), Bijou Project (Bend/Albany), Luminessah (of course), Amy Peccia (Eugene) and Shellece (Corvallis). Shellece just moved here from Prescott, AZ where she was co-director of troupe Salamat. We are also very excited to introduce our student troupe, who will also be performing!! We are super duper excited about this show, hope to see you there!!

It's a girl!!

LeeAnn (Ziola) and KC had a beautiful baby girl on Friday, 11 days overdue!! Luminessah was there to support her and it was an amazing experience for everyone!! She's so sweet, here's the info:

7 lbs. 9 ounces, 20 inches

Mama labored for over 25 hours and pushed for only 20 minutes!! Recovering wonderfully.

Okay, so I just found out that I can separate my videos on Viddler into groups which makes it much easier to navigate for me as well as the viewers.

Video Site / Better than YouTube

Hey ya'll. I thought I would share a video site that I found that is FAR superior to Youtube as far as quality image. Also, you are not restricted to 100 mb and 10 minutes. The only downside to this site is that it does not have nearly as many subscribers and viewers as YouTube, but provided you have links posted in highly visible places, it should not really matter too much. You can even post a link on your youtube account to redirect people to whatever you have posted on this site. You can also embed the player on your website.

The site is called VIMEO, and is definitely worth checking out.

11:30 to 1:30 Luminessah graces us:

Slow, gooey layers for Tribal Fusion and Turkish Rom Flavor

Take layering to a new speed...

Layla's Locks - all you can craft "buffet" (tentatively Sat. April 12)

Hey ladies and gentlemen,

Its spring and I'm needing to get some energy cleared out of my hair/ crafting space, so an idea came to me - an all you can craft "buffet" featuring my vast collection of hair making supplies, beads, yarns, and fun fabric scraps, as well as too many little silk flowers to count just waiting to turn into your next great hairpiece or accessory.

I'm asking for a donation of at least $25 to cover the materials, but also included will be my famous hummus, wine, and other snacky goodness to fuel our crafting, and of course my expertise in making all sorts of fun accessories, as well as some advanced knowledge on how to make realistic loose hair pieces to add length, fullness or color (materials will not be provided due to cost). Its half workshop, half party!

There is also a very good chance of Blood Moon viewing as well :)

So who is interested? If I have at least 5 willing to spend a day feasting on crafts, food and fun, I'll make it official!

Belly dance fanatic wanted

for fun gig in Salem on Sat. Dec. 15. I'm going up to dance with Cira and her dance friends at Allann Brothers in Salem. The show starts at 7pm. It's a community show, not paid, but it should be a blast. I'm looking for someone who loves to perform to go up with me and dance. I can drive, I have a nice little van with good tires, good heater, CD player, and I'm a nice cautious driver.

Anybody want to come and play? Jeannie, you would be awesome! Or even if a couple of Lumis wanted to come and do a duet or something. I can fit four of us in my car easily.

I'd love to have the company and it would keep my poor husband from worrying about me. He's such a worrywart, he would probably end up going with me to keep from worrying. So it would help him out, too.

Hi!
I'm currently on a break from touring with BDSS until the spring. My partner and I bought an old VW and decided to head to Mexico for some sun.
sooo, we got as far as Eugene from Vancouver Island and had to stop here till friday to get an engine rebuild..ach.
I got a couple of days to mooch about in Eugene and wondered if there were any Belly dance related funs to be had in the area.
I'd be well up for teaching if anyone was interested, or if anyone just wants to come out and play?

The show at Luna was awesome! The incredible full moon and comet in the sky and the Halloween vibes added to the ambience of the night.

Luminessah rocked, both as a group and in the solos. They were absolutely beautiful.

Jamara kicked butt, too.

Having a great sound guy and having the extra lighting made the experience much nicer for us as the band. I thought we played well and the audience seemed to really enjoy the show. Thanks to everyone who came and danced! Let's do it again!

Last-minute heads up for those of you in the Eugene area who might enjoy some tribal music and belly dancing with a delicious Mediterranean dinner. Come on down to Iraila Mediterranean Rustica, 24th & Hilyard in Eugene (inside Humble Bagel Dining Room) from 6-9pm tonight, Fri. Oct. 12. No cover charge. 541-684-8400.

This is always a great time and the food and atmosphere are wonderful. A few months ago we had an 80-year old man celebrating his birthday who got up to dance with Luminessah! Little kids, everybody loves Luminessah. And teamed up with Americanistan, they are extra special. (Not that I'm biased or anything.)

DANCING FOR JOY

We'd like to thank Sara Brickner for her mention of our tribal fusion belly dance troupe, Luminessah, in the EW guide to the Eugene Celebration (9/6). After reading the last sentence she wrote, however, we feel the need to clarify the intentions of our dance ("depending on your sexual preference, you're either hypnotized by the seductive power of undulating bodies in bikini tops, or you're wondering how you too, can learn to shake it like that").

This is a spiritual dance to be shared and enjoyed by everyone, not a sexual dance. The movements of our dance invoke sacred elements, tell ancient stories and create blessings. The undulation movement Ms. Brickner speaks of represents the sacred ritual of birth. And the unique costumes reflect just as much of our spiritual intentions as the dance, as well as the many cultural influences we welcome into our circle. For example, the "bikini tops" Ms. Brickner mentioned are actually in many cases traditional Indian cholis or professional dance tops that we've spent much time and effort creating.

We respect others' perceptions of this art form but too often find ourselves fighting strongly judgmental stereotypes. We do not speak for other dancers nor do we wish to represent all belly dancers. We are glad to have this opportunity to share our perspective of this performance art. In Luminessah we simply dance for joy, sisterhood and spirit.

Magidah Workshops and Show Coming Up!

Both workshops held at StaverDanceSport (41 E.6th Ave.) in Eugene

11am to 1pm, $25/30 Thrilling Technique! Bigger hip drops, more precise isolations, more lavish layers for your shimmies! Two hours of drills, traveling steps and, of course, endless shimmies.

2pm to 4pm, $25/$30-- Down on the Doum: Arabic Rhythms and Movement Learn how to identify, interpret and express Middle Eastern rhythms. Explore different rhythms and gain the confidence to dance with live musicians or approach the music you already own with a new ear.

Dancing sisters, for real YO!!!

I just wanted to express how grateful I am to call the ladies of Luminessah my dancing sisters. The term sister is used quite often in my world, and I use it to show the connection that all of us as women share. I was thinking about this word and how powerful it is. Those of us who have sisters in our lives, whether they be our blood sisters or spiritual sisters, know that we share ups and downs together, we laugh together, we cry together, we share the deepest part of our selves together, we disagree, we agree, we lift each other up, we teach each other, we learn about our selves from each other, we support each other, we learn how to be there for each other, we become wiser through each other, and we unconditonally LOVE each other! I can truly say all of these things about my sistas in Luminessah, and that makes me feel so blessed that our connection is rooted so deep, so true, and so very powerful!!!
To all the beautiful sisters out there, I wish you a connection with your sisters to be just as sacred and true!!!

kids belly dance class cross thread

Okay ladies, any body live in eugene? I know some of you must, or know some one who does. Heres the deal, theres a great new kids class starting, but if there aren't enough kids, it doesn't happen.....so. I really don't want our comunity to loose this oportunity, so I'm trying to get the word out. My daughter is signed up for this, it won't be her first belly dance class, but it will be her first opportunity to gt to take a class like this with kids her age. So............. If your not in this area, maybe think of starting something like this up where you are! Loves and just think what a great opportunity this is to bring our girls into the folds of our beloved art.

Jamaras kids class
Hey ladies, looking for something great to get your girls into this summer? Jamara is starting two bellydance classes for young girls, one for littler girls ages 4-8 and one for preeteen girls ages 8-12.These are Mondsy classes starting on the 18th and running for 6 weeks. The 4-8 class will be held at 5:30 to 6:30 and the preeteen class will start at 6:30 and go to 7:30. Sign up at Riverroad comunity center. Classes will be held there right next to emerald park. Only $18 in district and $27 for out.

The classes will cover basic movments to an Arabic pop style of music in a fun and supportive enviorment. Students can expect to imporove grace and flexability while learing the art of bellydance.

My daughter will be attending, and it would be great to get to see other girls form the comunity learing the art!

Fearless Love
Fearless Love performs Eostar Kamala's original songs of devotion and angelic communion, prayers for peace and
some original Sanskrit bhajans. The band is comprised of some of Eugene's best folk musicians who bring originality
and a true feeling of devotion to Eostar Kamala's prayerful presentation of the lyrical and sometimes upbeat and danceable tunes.
In Fearless Love the angelic sound of Glenn Falkenberg's harp and mandolin are mixing with Gopal Das'
strong bass line calling us to dance. Ben House's whistle tunes transport us to far-away lands of
living folklore while his vocals add dimension and power to Eostar's voice.

Tribal Fest afterthoughts...

wow...another year of over-stimulation!!! a week of drooling over beautiful clothing and jewels, extravagant dancers and amazing music!
thank you Chuck and Kajira for all your hard work and dedication. It was a beautiful gypsy family reunion!!!
It was an honor to dance on that stage again this year. There are so many lessons to be learned as a performer amongst SO many varied talented troupes, soloists and musicians. I still feel like a baby compared to stuff I saw! But that's OK...because we grow with every new experience and it is always so much fun and fulfillment.
I was so glad we, as a troupe, got to spend so much time together, in the redwoods, at the ocean and at fest of course. I am blessed every day that I can wake up and move my body to the music of life.
