Intermediate Poi, Advanced Poi, Fire-eating/Fleshing Workshops by Cherry

Cherry has been performing and teaching fire-performance for over 8 years all over the West Coast and Europe. She has appeared on HBO, The Style Channel and countless events all over the world. Workshops are designed to help the students build their skill set and smooth out transitions to take their art to the next level.

Intermediate Poi levels 1& 2 (combined levels in workshop):
This course is designed to bring the student up from the basics of poi spinning to the next level of poi dancing and performance. Intermediate 1 will focus primarily on more difficult transitions of the foundation moves taught in the beginner's course. We will also be focusing on smoothing out transitions and incorporating more dance and body movement and choreography with the poi spinning. Intermediate level 2 will focus on more complex variations and start to introduce more abstract movements as under the leg, wrapping and spinning from different lengths. We will also be focusing on combination movement.

Advanced Poi:
Advanced poi is for the experienced poi spinner who is ready to embark on adding various complicated movement to their spinning. As this course is very intensive we will be focusing more on groups of tricks. These groups can range from wrapping/chain wrapping, tosses, acrobatics with poi, behind the back movement (with weave and butterfly), one handed butterfly (with many variations) or any other areas of movement and choreography that the students are interested in.

Fire Eating and Fleshing (body burning or Salamandering)
This course is an intro to the art of fire eating and fleshing! Almost all there is to be learned about this art form will be covered in one workshop. Primarily we will be focusing on the basic techniques of fire eating. The fleshing will focus on technique of creating traces of fire on the skin and clothing. We will also be focusing on fleshing transfers on different parts of the body. Students will need to either bring their own torches or order them IN ADVANCE from me for $12 a pair (small) or $17 a pair (large).

Times and Prices:

Intermediate Poi: 1.5hrs (1/2 "playtime" afterwards) $25

Advanced Poi: 1.5hrs (1/2 "playtime" afterwards) $25

Take both workshops for $40!

Fire Eating/Fleshing: 1hr. $20ea Fuel will be provided. Equipment (Torches) is required and you may either bring your own or order them in-advance from Cherry.

Hello fellow fire fanatics!
This is an automated reply. Please join our tribe and stay tuned for updates on the upcoming NFPL Championship and tubing campout to be held Sept 26-28th on the beautiful Guadalupe River in New Braunfels ,Texas.

We are currently seeking DJs who may wish to promote themselves by providing music for the competition in exchange for the spotlight. We will need a link to review their music and their contact info. If you intend to use an independent DJ or band for your music, weather live or recorded, that may wish to be promoted and entered as an independent , there will be professional scouts attending the event who will be seeking musicians for future gigs. Pass the wordand help your musician friends get promoted!

We are also seeking judges for the duration of the event. If you or someone you know would be a good , unbiased, and fair judge,and may have expertise in performance art, martial arts, staging events, and especially the fire arts, let us know. We would like to receive a bio about them and why they would be a good judge. Entrants will be scored on technicality, form, costuming, stage presence, originality, musical accompaniment, and professionalism. Judges will not be allowed to perform in categories they will be judging.

Prices are $40 per person/per night and includes Membership to the NFPL for one year, entry into the championship, camping ,and tubing and shuttle service on the river. For Spectators, $30 per person/per night includes Membership to the NFPL for one year,camping ,and tubing and shuttle service on the river.Its gonna be a great time, so come out and enjoy what is sure to be a great time and great show.

For Championship entrants, there will be many male , female , pair, and troupe, categories to choose from, dependent on what fire tools you exhibit and number of performers in each routine. If you have a fire tool that is original or not listed , let us know and we will include it/them. If you use props such as structures or pyrotechnics, let us know the nature of these features and any space requirements.Please read our profile and be practicing your routines. You may enter as many categories as you wish.If you have your own music you wish to use in performance, please have it on CD or Ipod and ready to go. We will post entrant forms to bring with you to the show, so stay tuned!

Thank-you all for the amazing number of responses we have gotten. Space is limited to 2500 people at the event , so RSVP ASAP! We will try to answer all your questions in our updates. Tickets will be sold at the gate and it is recommended to let us know how many in your group , both performers and spectators, will be attending.

For those of you that do not know, The Austin Enchanted Forest needs your help after being denied their Temporary Use Permit by the city of Austin.

This permit has allowed The Forest to provide an alternative outdoor venue for supporting local and national musicians, artists, performers, freaks, and Austinites for the last 5 years.

But alas one of Austin's best kept secrets and underground icons is in serious jeopardy of closing and we need your help!

Can you raise money for the numerous and costly hoops The Forest is going to have to jump through?
As in most cases little can be accomplished without it and if we can't host events to raise the funds, we need you to canvass on The Forest's behalf!

Be nice! It's easy to piss people off and we all know the catching flies with honey bit... If you have top bite your tongue.

Yes Flipside, the magical place we all know and love is being born in the minds and hands of so many right now. Want to know how to be one of the lucky ones to experience this place?
Read on, follow directions (this is key) and you will be rewarded:

Tickets for Flipside 2008: Dr. Tiki’s Combustible Medicine Show go on sale starting Jan 7 thru Jan 11, 2008 .

All tickets for Flipside 2008 will be sold via Mail Order (snake oil not included).

The Official Flipside Ticket Order Form is available to fill out and print starting on January 2. (Hey that's TODAY!!) There are two steps to make it to the glorious land of Flipside . Just two little steps.

First, you must access the form itself, fill out your information, and submit electronically so we have all of your details. The form can be found here: www.burningflipside.com/common...est.php
but don't forget to follow through onto the next step!

Second you must print the form and send it in the mail with a post mark between Monday Jan 7 and Friday Jan 11 (7-11, get it? That’s easy to remember!). Simple, easy and fun! (well, it’s your ticket to fun anyway).

***If you do not follow through on step two and send us the form with your payment, you will not be guaranteed a ticket to the most glorious medicine show to ever be born (snake oil not included)***

Two adult tickets per order. One order per person.

Tickets will cost $70 each for adult tickets age 13 and up and $35 for kids 7-12 (Kids 0-6 are free). Payment is accepted by Money Order only! If you send any other form of payment, your request will be sent back unfilled. Make sure you save your money order receipts, if your order is not filled you may need that to turn your money order back into real dollars.

Note: there is a new section on the ticket form this year to give an optional donation to Art Garden, a local non-profit art org born out of the Flipside community. Look for an announcement from AG with details.

The fine print:

The number of tickets that will be sold for 2008's event will be 2345.

Once all ticket orders have arrived, the LLC and the Ticket Staff will count up the completed orders received during the postmark period (the significant date is the date of your post mark, NOT the date we receive it).

If the number of completed orders received is less than 2345, then ALL completed orders will be filled. If the number is grreater than 2345, we will fill the orders for Critical Volunteers first. Critical Volunteers are those necessary to ensure the safety and intrastructure needs of all participants are met.

All completed orders with post mark dates within the Jan 7 - 11 window are considered equal.

Children with legal guardians:
6 and under are FREE
7-12 are $35
13 and older are $70 (and still require a legal guardian)

NO PETS allowed at the event.

Will Call: NO NAME CHANGES will be allowed for Will Call tickets. Don't do Will Call unless you are sure you personally will be able to pick up the tickets when you arrive at the gate. ID will be required.

New for this year for locals, Starr and the ticket staff will be hosting two nights TBA where you can pick up your tickets if you elected to have them sent regular mail and you are able to make it to the ticket nights. Announcement will be forthcoming with more information about this.

Enchanted Forest is the bomb! What a great place with wonderful energy! We got to hang out with Tzol! How nice is he.....and very easy on the eyes! He is looking forward to playing LCC in Houston. Maybe Kan'Nal will play the silo. I'm working on it now! Sure wish all our opossums were here with us to play and watch us perform. Send us some love and energy! We shall see our Houston Phamily soon with a full report!

BTW, I downloaded all our pictures and videos from the night onto your computer desktop, Shannon. They are in a folder called Halloween 2007, I think.

What a fun show! Thanks to all our opossums for showing the love and support. Lucian, Marlo, Kerry, Patric, Jenni, Drift, and sooooooooo many more great peeps were there to cheer us on! WE ROCKED AND SO DO THEY!!!!!!!! Now, for a bit more sleep before we head to H-town! I'll post many more wonderful photos in the next few days. The Silo party was off the hook! Bad ass DJ's and talented fire dancers made the night! Loads of old school dance music just made your booty wanna bounce around. Thanks to everyone for showing the love and support! Luminosity, Zion's Flame and Parrafin Addicts all performed throughout the evening til the early morning hours. Such wonderful costumes by the crowd.......some made ya go Hmmmmmmm! Kerry, KC Sunshine, Patric, Jenni, Marsha and Cathy were all there to help and support... as well as countless more. Cathy kicks ass as a bouncer and safety! I love you sister! Special thanks to SDC, MissMillie and Ken for having us perform. Thanks again to all! Hope to see everyone in Austin @ Enchanted Forest 10-31!

I am really looking forward to seeing you when you come to perform for the WyldeFyre holloween show. The wyldefyreproductions performers group is wyldefyreproductions@yahoogroups.com, and our friends group is listed below.
If you are in the show in Austin with Anna and Noah, I please join the wyldefyreproductions group for updates until the show, and to learn our safety procedures. I suggest you sign in for daily mail or no mail so you can check it at your convience. If you can not make it to the group, please notify me so I can make sure you have all proper info before the gig. I am very excited that you are coming in for this. If you can make it for at least one practice to see our stage set up and learn the finally that would be great. Otherwise, please be available early in the day on Thursday for finale practice- we plan on having everyone on stage on fire. We still need stage hands if anyone is interested in helping out....
