I really enjoyed watching this movie with you guys and I loved being able to share views after in a safe and supportive environment. I'm glad others feel the same way as I do about Todd Solndz (director) and It was great to get opion that I never would have thought up myself. Sharing is caring so let's watch some movies and share together. Let's do the next one at my place. We'll get some comfort food and a flic then melt into the couches and foamies. Another good excuse to get together once in a while and give the Spring house and Point st. house an evening off once in the week! What evenng works for ya'll? What movie?

'me, you and everyone we know'

the group debrief after that one was definately very helpful and meaningful in processing such a heavy film. too often i leave a film feeling very impacted and full of emotion but feeling too overwhelmed and still 'in it' to really talk about it. listening to everyone talk about it helped me begin to understand and unravel my own feelings about what i saw. one thing i found challenging in the larger group was the amount of comments going on throughout the movie. i too am guilty of the out loud reaction crime, but i really do appreciate when a lot of silence is given when watching, so i can fully immerse myself in the creation unfolding before me. so that is my request for next time. keeping comments during play mode to a minimum. as for next meeting time and film pick, i would suggest sunday evening, and the only film i have in my brain at the moment that i would love to see is 'me, you and everyone we know', but i'm open.
yay group film watching!
:)

I concur. For serious film watching their needs to be silence. We should certainly implement some 'general rules of etiquette.'

I like the idea of watching some docs... I just saw 'The Fourth World War' (about various local struggles against neo-liberalism and corporate globalisation, and the rise of the global justice movement over the past decade) by myself and was thinking how much better it would be to watch it with a group of people.

how about something like 'The Take' (about Argentina) or 'The Revolution will not be Televised' (about Venezuela)?

too heavy/serious/political?

I think those are great idea's. It's way better having something real to talk about. We can save the comedy and drama for times we just want to chill.

Yeah, I like the idea of watching documentaries - of past and present struggles, victories, issues, ideas, etc. "The Take" was excellent! Another great thing about docs is that you can find them at the library for free! Yippee!

I really like political and social activism docs because they do a really good job of transporting you to the situation...there is something so powerful about seeing images and hearing the voices of those affected. Very inspiring.

Plus, we could pay attention to current happenings and rent movies accordingly - I was sad to see that I missed the presentation of "Malcolm X" at Cinecenta for Black History Month (I believe they played it Feb 28) - the Students of Colour Collective facilitated a talk afterwards as well. Did anyone attend that? I was sorry to have missed out on that!
