I love my multi-color LED hoop and I want to make another one using black lights. Any suggestions on where to purchase black light LEDs?
be careful with this: i recently made an led hoop using directions from prodmod.com. tho i did not make a blacklite (purple uv) hoop, i do remember that the promod guy mentioned somewhere on the site that there would be potential problems using these kind of leds. i do not know what the problems were, maybe something to do with powering them or mixing them with non-uvs?, either way, try to contact prodmod (that is his name on tribe)
I think the difficulty is that the UV led need a lot more power and working out the kind of circuit you would need would be different to that which you can use with the standard leds in the promod kit. But if you were to go to an electronic supply store or you have a friend who is electronic savvy then it would not be too difficult to work it out.
Ah yes, prodmod. I believe that's where my b-friend got the parts to make the LED hoop I have now. Thanks Adrienne! I'll drop him a line!
yeah i think that is the issue with the uv leds, they use more power? my led hoop, the one circuit has some uv leds, and they're the first to dim.
I friggin love the blacklight hoops...especially when its a bunch of solid blacklights with 1 flicker every once and a while....like 4-6 flickers all together with like 30 lights
Hi Adrienne,
The person who had trouble with UV LEDs was using my new AA circuit module and probably didnt connect it all correctly.
I checked that circuit by connecting it to 21 UV LEDs and they all worked fine.
I think the only time I see some issues is when I combine UV with fast color changing LEDs. The fast ones flicker so much they can cause the UVs to also flicker if the power is low and sometimes with the new AA circuit.
But its not as obvious when using my rechargeable battery option
okay, cool! i want to order some kits soon...starting to want led hoops in many colors! mine is just white and pink, cuz that's all radio shack stocks!
