A good Question.
MagicaNova is currently mainly in cyberspace, and will touch down at some point on the mundane plane.
Following on the question of why this is a group; i.e. what do we share in common, what do we want to achieve, comes another question; where do people reside?
I'm planning on developing a Bay Area chapter on the ground within the next year, if there develop a quorum of interested people.
Would people be interested in an international organisation? Are there numbers of people in alternative areas?
So let us know where you are; interested people in the same geographic areas are suggested to contact each other.
That is; if we come to some conclusion as to what MagicaNova is; and if that is worth reifying.
As I say, I have definite ideas; and these I'll be attempting to ground in the Bay Area. But I'd seriously like to hear others opinions of what you think MN is; and what you'd like it to be.

well i'm in pittsburgh, but my plate is pretty full - probably too full to do much of anything in terms of an organized group in meatspace. that said, i'd cheerfully work on attempting to reproduce the effects observed by others in their work in different geographical areas.

Re: "But where is the action"
Thu, September 20, 2007 - 11:36 AMI'm in the process of planning a remote/rural Alaskan tribe, and I hope to include a fair number of magickal people, as well. We'll live close to the land, hunting/gathering/fishing for our food, working cooperatively, living in an interdependent way as a tribe. There could be a temple or temples to various beliefs and practices, and we could do rituals outdoors under the northern lights.
So, if anyone is interested, let me know. We're heading up that way (we're currently in Boulder, CO, until May 2008) in Summer 2008. -

Re: "But where is the action"
Thu, September 20, 2007 - 11:56 AMAlaska is a great choice. If youre living rurally, it should be fairly frugal. And with the Oil dividend handed out to all residents, you should have all the cash you need! So has the idea of Arizona not worked out? It would be great if you had a sanctuary in both locations - sort of a "fire and ice" thing. -

Re: "But where is the action"
Fri, September 21, 2007 - 9:42 AMArizona worked out great, just not the way I expected. :-) I went there to wander in the desert as a hermit for a month or two, but ended up landing a nice job. Did that for a while, then met my now-fiancee. Did a 6-month yoga teacher training course. Then we moved to Boulder, CO, late last year so my fiancee could attend a program here until next summer.
Alaska sounds amazing. We have a friend up there who has lived there almost her whole life and was raised on a trapline. She has great things to say about it, as well. And the dividend this year is $1654 per person! Of course, due to eligibility, if we move next summer, we can apply for the one in 2010. Oh well; it's there. :-)
I like the idea of multiple sanctuaries, but my personal priorities have changed a bit, hence the Alaska idea. Also, the American political and social scenes disgust me. Even though Alaska is part of the U.S., it is still quite different .So, we figured we'd give that a go. -

Re: "But where is the action"
Sat, September 22, 2007 - 2:16 PMYeah. At the rate at which humanity is changing the planet, and in the specific direction towards which that change is directed, Alaska and Arizona will soon have similar climates. :-S -

- sadly in winter of 2008 a group of hippies were found frozen to death in the Alaskan wilderness, they were pilgrims of their people trying to establish a sustainable lifestyle, - CNN -

Tue, September 25, 2007 - 2:34 PMAhh but you are a product of that environment, Hxaosanto , not that i don't agree with everything you are saying, but i would worry if you guys didnt have a survival specialist living there with you, maybe get in with some native americans there,or at least native hippies- -

Tue, September 25, 2007 - 2:47 PM"you are a product of that environment"
Agreed, and I'm trying to shed those influences as quickly as I discover them. It's amazing how insidious civilization really is on one's being.
"a survival specialist...maybe get in with some native americans there,or at least native hippies"
Well, my fiancee and I have differing but complementary skillsets that would help us. Also, we do know one of the latter, who is interested in being a part of our tribe. As for natives, there are many, and we do plan to learn from their centuries of experience as best we can. To be honest, though, I'd rather bodily die in nature while living than bodily, psychologically, mentally, spiritually, and emotionally die while standing in line at Wal-Mart or being hit by a car in the street.

Tue, September 25, 2007 - 5:31 PMEverybody dies. It's how you live that counts. -

Re: "But where is the action"
Wed, September 26, 2007 - 11:14 AM"Everybody dies"
Mostly true, depending on what you believe, and how you define "dies". What about Enoch, or the Wandering Jew? Frankly, I'm starting to say, "Every body recycles." (See the space? And the word that describes what happens when you decompose?)
"It's how you live that counts."
That's a very bio-centric viewpoint. What if your physical life is just a blink, meaning nothing at all? What if it's not even a "training ground"? What if this is just the pupal stage of a "true human spirit"; we're wrapped in cocoons of meat, awaiting the time when our wings are solid. Then, we shed our cocoons and fly.
Not being contrary; just putting out ideas. :-)

Tue, September 25, 2007 - 12:30 PM"sadly in winter of 2008 a group of hippies were found frozen to death in the Alaskan wilderness"
What's wrong? Are you afraid of a little death, hmm?
It's funny. People have lived there for thousands upon thousands of years. Why, one would almost think that humans could actually survive there! But noooooooooo, that can't be the case. I mean, without cars and electricity and millions of people nearby and coffeehouses and clothing stores and supermarkets and trash and environmental destruction and polluted food and polluted air and polluted water and 24/7/365 information overload and jobs and and and and and...........
You'll have to excuse me. You meant it as a joke, but I see it every single day: people with minds so closed that they can't think past their "work/kids/soccer/SUV/reality-show" life. A part of me pities them, and a (larger) part of me is disgusted. -
