Hello to all the lovely Mahira Tribe friends...

After our very successful workshops last weekend, Mahira Tribe is starting to think about expanding what we do and offering more workshops in the future! But it wouldn't make sense to do this without getting some ideas on what YOU want! We know that between what the DDLC does, the Philly scene, Tempest in Cape May, and the Rakkasah festivals, there's a really large amount to choose from out there.

So, when you have a moment, would you ponder these questions for us? You can either post answers here in our tribe or PM me personally if you'd prefer your answers be kept private. We'd really appreciate it!

1. What attracts you most to a workshop? (reputation of instructor, workshop topics, location/travel distance, price, other reasons)

2. When offered a workshop by an instructor with whom you are not familiar, what would make you more likely to take the workshop? (workshop topics, location/travel distance, price, other reasons)

3. What types of workshop are you personally most interested in? (props, genre-specific styling, technique, historic/folkloric, non-bellydance styles, other)

4. Are there any instructors or topics you feel are lacking in the local area that you would like to see happen?

5. Are there any instructors or topics you would not want to be offered?

6. What do you feel is a fair price for a 2-3 hour workshop? What do you feel is a fair price for a day of 2 workshops of 2-3 hours each?

7. Please add any comments you think would assist us in our future planning.

  • 1. Topics first, then reputation of instructor. Then location/travel distance and price. I am willing to drive further if here is more than one workshop, or a workshop and halfa sort of thing.

    2. workshop topic! And is there more than one workshop. Also, website and testimonials from other dancers can help convince me.

    3. Props. Technique. Not necessarily a choreography. Combinations in the style are enough.

    4. I'd like to see more "Into to ATS" or other tribal style. I can't get to regular classes yet, and I did have one intro workshop a few years ago. I'd love another. And again the hip hop, since I missed it last time.

    5. Not that I can think of.

    6. 2-3 hour workshop: depends on how big a name the teacher is and how far they have traveled. $20-40.
    2 workshops of 2-3 hours each: $40-80

    7. be sure to always include info on parking and directions. I'll drive a bit to get somewhere, but parking info and directions besides mapquest always make me more likely to put in the effort and use the gas.
