What is the name for a person you partner with for your startups whose job is to shmooze people with money and sell them on the company so that they will invest? And how do I find someone like this?

Mon, May 10, 2004 - 11:37 AMI think they are called Sales People hee hee hee.
Find useful info at your local SBA office www.sbaonline.sba.gov/index.html
Do you have your business plan ready to go? I would imagine serious sales people who know what they are doing would look at it and network the network if they feel they can help you. What industry does your start up cover? -

Re: Funds for a startup
Mon, May 10, 2004 - 12:39 PMThese people would be "selling" in a way, but not in a sence that that are selling the end product to the customer. They would be convincing investors to invest with a possible return in investments.
It is for a service provided over the internet for a monthly fee. The bulk of the money will need to go to paying a programmer (unless they partner with us) and then to advertising. -

Fri, May 14, 2004 - 8:02 PMNick,
Its a tough slog, hard work but if you are the person who is involved just start picking up the phone. Don't talk about your needing money right away, talk about the returns and your unique offerings. You know the saying the journey starts with a step? Just keep at it day after day after day. Talk to people get their cards, grab a beer with another, coffee etc... Just talk and get out there.
If you need any books or other advice stuff I'll gladly help ya out with what I am learning.
Cheers.

Re: Funds for a startup
Thu, May 27, 2004 - 12:00 AMi think they're often referred to as venture capital consultants. usually people doing this sort of work take 3-10% of whatever they raise for your corporation. feel free to send me a message if you'd like me to refer you to someone i know.
oh, and they usually specialize to an industry or market.
hope some of this helps.
