We are currently in the middle of running H1N1 (Swine Flu) immunisation clinics where I work. I am amazed at how many people are turning up for their vaccination without any advertising campaign being run. To date, we have had roughly 500 through our doors. I had my immunisation two weeks ago and was surprised at how there was no effect from the injection. Usually with the yearly flu immunisation I get a bruised feeling at the injection site , but this one didn't even have that. I have the immunisation mainly because of the type of work I do and I was wondering If everyone else would be having the immunisation?

Hi John....there has been advertising for a couple of weeks on TV advising "vulnerable" people to get the vac done for free.
I have not considered having it as I seem to avoid colds and flu and have done so all my life. Only had the normal flu injection once a couple of years ago and had the worst flu in that winter that I have ever had...so I have not bothered about it since.
Might be foolish not to have it but might consider it later.....cheers Ron

Its interesting, how when a new strain of 'flu is detected EVERYONE with a sniffle of a tickle in the throat seems to claim proud ownership of the current fashionable flu strain.

Remember Asian Flu ?? how everyone with a spare tissue claimed they had it?
    Remember bird flu? horse flu??

Friends of mine have a kid who came home feeling a bit "flu-ey" and ofcourse it ofcourse, only the very latest strain of flu was good enough for their daughter -- so they ran around saying she had "swine flu" ----- without so much as visiting a doctor ....

These are the same parents who refuse to have their kids immunised against diseases such as measles, chicken pox etc, but insist their kid has every right to take those diseases to school to spread it among other kids ( or at least do their best to give it to other kids whose parents had the sense to have them immunised!)

Frankly I think the Government's stated plan to have everyone immunised against swine flu is a reactive approach, and a very wastefull and expensive one ( someone in Government must have a friend who is on the board of the chemical company who produces the vaccinations.) -but maybe Im just cynical.

surely we need to be able to have people have a simple "common" cold -------------or is that just to "common" for us these days?
