A memorial fund is being created in Reema’s honor. Here is what we know so far. As we know more, we will post it here. - Jennifer

The following was posted on bhuz by Souzan:

The response from the Bhuz community has been wonderful! I think
seeing Reema's pictures and videos and hearing from her family about
how much she loved dance and live has hit us all very personally. And
I am pleased that I can help you all find a way to memoralize a young
life that ended too soon.

I just spoke with the director of gifts at the Virginia Tech
Development Foundation about setting up a memorial fund in the name
of Reema Samaha, the young Lebaneses American middle eastern dancer
who was killed in the terrible attack on Monday.

The foundation will set up a fund in Reema's name that we can donate
any amount we want to into. For the time being the purpose for which
the fund would be used is being listed as assisting a VT student who
is a member of the Middle Eastern Dance Association at that
university. Mr. Clark, the gentleman I spoke to, suggested this
designation until it is determined how much money might be donated.
The amount of money would determine whether it would be a one-time
gift or an annual award.

The foundation will be getting back to me with details about how to
make donations once they have the actual account for the fund set up.

In addition to personal gifts, you might consider making donations
from the proceeds of haflas or other events. If there is enough money
in the fun it could be used for a scholarship for a young woman
studying dance at the university.

More information soon.

Thank you, Jennifer, for posting this. I was wondering where we could contribute to a fund in her memory, and this sounds perfect. The loss of such a beautiful and vibrant young woman is profound even to someone like me who is far away and didn't know her. I just keep thinking about my own daughters who are about Reema's age, and cannot even begin to fathom how her family, and those of the other victims, are coping with their terrible loss.

THE REEMA JOSEPH SAMAHA MIDDLE EASTERN DANCE MEMORIAL FUND will be used to assist the student-members of the Middle Eastern Dance Association of Virginia Tech. Depending on the amount donated, the fund may be used for a one time gift in Reema’s name or for an annual award, perhaps a small scholarship.

Here is how to make a donation by check:

Make check payable (in any amount) to Virginia Tech Foundation, Inc. Mail to:

    University Development
    902 Prices Fork Road
    Blacksburg , VA 24061

Be sure to either write on the check or in a cover note that the donation is for the REEMA JOSEPH SAMAHA MIDDLE EASTERN DANCE MEMORIAL FUND.

An online donation option for this fund is being set up and I will report on that as soon as I have a URL to go to.

    Please be generous.

    Sue

      *To make an online donation:*

      Go to webapps.banner.vt.edu/giving/...ndex.jsp

In the "Gift Designation" area of the form go to the box "Other
Designation" and type in Reema Joseph Samaha Middle Eastern Dance
      Memorial Fund.

There is a general scholarship fund set up to honor Reema. However this
particular Middle Eastern Dance Memorial Fund will go for a scholarship
for a member of the Hill and Veil.

      Liz
